We stayed 7 days at Grand Sunset Princess, it was our, my wife and I, first time at this resort, not our first time in Mexico. What a great time we had there. Room, grounds, pools, buffet, shows, drinks, beach, beach bar and snack hut, poolside taco stands, poolside hamburger and hotdog BBQ stand, lobby bar, sports bar were fantastic. We had so much fun at the pool bar, Eric, activities animator, was great at his job.
We went to xplor, at xcaret park and had a blast. Ziplines, jeeps and water activities were amazing. The buffet at xplor was incredible. We laughed like kids all day there. We are planning our next trip there already, and we are bringing friends with us. [Details]

Everything was amazing from the check in to the room to the pools and the food. Wildlife roaming the resort was also enjoyed by us. Staff were great, helpful and courteous. Food choices were many and all were perfectly prepared. We enjoyed large buffet, snack bars and a la carte. Went to five of the different a la carte restaurants and the steak a second night. We really appreciated the online app for booking meals and navigation of the resort. [Details]

Hotel was great, clean and well maintained, Staff were very friendly and helpful, The grounds were beautiful. The restaurants were great, as well as the burger and taco stands. Enjoyed the wildlife. My wife became sick for a few days, the chef/cook and the staff in the buffet went above and beyond to make certain dishes as well as ginger tea to help her feel better. They were amazing!! [Details]

We have never been to Cancun, Mexico before. We loved every moment of it. We went from Saturday March 25, 2023 to Saturday April 1, 2023. I think next time we will try a 9 day stay. The Hotel/Resort was amazing. It was very clean and welcoming. It is nicely updated. The rooms are very nice as well. The grounds, pools and beach are kept very nice as well. There are a lot pools to choose from. Almost each pool has a swim up bar. For lunch if you want something quick there is a burger place or taco place to eat by the pool. The buffets are really good too. There is a lot of variety of food to eat. The restaurants that you can reserve are great as well. Just make sure to book them early because they fill up fast. The staff is very friendly. We had one really good day at the beach with little seaweed. The other days there were lots of seaweed. The beaches were not rocky. I really liked that you could see the bottom of the ocean too. Make sure to book an excursion. We had a great time visiting Tulum and snorkeling. I would recommend this resort 100%. We will book there definitely again! [Details]

Extremely Disappointed
Mark Klimko, Grande Prairie, AB
2023-04-09
After reading a lot of reviews we chose the Grand Sunset as there was hardly a bad review. We booked a Laguna Villa and upon arrival the disappointment started. We were to have a private check in and that did not happen at all. The Villa was really nice, bed was excellent and the out door shower was a great feature. The adults only pool and cabana area was really nice but if you didn't get up and in line by 8:30am to book a cabana for the next day you didn't get one. The grounds were amazing and the staff worked really hard and keeping it that way. I have upgraded at other resort and you do expect a little extra for it. The buffets were not great each time I went, everything I tried was warm at best. I did try the seafood a la carte and it was the worst I have ever had on vacation. It tasted like everything had been cooked in dirty water. I did get a chance to have the Miso Thai and it was amazing. Other a la cartes sounded great from other guest but you could not get into them. Breakfast at the chill out was included with the villas and that place was the best part of our trip. Our group ate there 3 evenings as well and we knew it cost extra but it was worth a good meal compared to the buffets. All there food was cooked amazing and tasted the same, not sure why the other parts of the resort can't cook like that. I would recommend that the resort include this place as a upgrade and included with the Villas. Because we payed for supper the first night we got access to the beach club each day and it was worth it. That part of the beach was quiet, there was always a spot and the bar service was excellent. The main pool bars always had a huge line up for service which is a big disappointment. You don't go on holidays to wait 45 minutes for a drink. The shows I did catch were excellent and did not disappoint.
This is just my opinion and hopefully it helps others to choose their vacation spot. [Details]

We stayed there for a week and found the food very bland and boring. Restaurants impossible to make reservations at, very unhelpful and some rude people working at counter and at departure/arrival area of lobby. Rooms okay but nothing special. We had a do not disturbe on door 2x and once they came in and cleaned room anyway and another time opened door while we were in room! Pool bars ….good luck getting a drink unless your the one tipping highest on every drink. Can't get chairs in beach or pool unless you take towels down to chairs at 6am. People do that and you can watch those chairs reserved all day but no one around that uses them. Witnessed two having sex in pool 15' away from kids swimming. [Details]

This is not a 5* resort. The food was average at best! Bartenders at the pool bars make you wait a long time if you didn't have $$ in your hand to tip! My room leaked a lot of water from a ceiling vent the first night in the room . Beds were very old and uncomfortable. I would say this resort is a 4* at best . We have stayed at this location a number of years ago and can tell you without hesitation that we will not be back. The room was old and tired (and in many cases, in need of repair), the service was slow and poor (except Marisol at the sports bar was excellent), we upgraded to the ‘platinum' level upon arrival and then was told we had the ‘wrong kind of platinum' to do anything with. But the absolute worst part of the whole trip was the food. It is absolutely putrid. Terrible wifi! [Details]

It is a big resort connecting a few resorts under the Princess brand. There is plenty of pools and restaurants, great evening shows, nice beach, pool water games and entertainment for every age, lots of places to get a snack, bars, internal shuttle service, tennis courts, great gym, spa, convenience and souvenirs stores, always fresh food and great selection. It is VERY clean everywhere! It could be great to add more shelves in the shower. In addition, it would be great to provide some map/entertainment list/info book when people arrive. Please sync the app entertainment list/restaurants menu with reality, not always they match. We really enjoyed our vacation and did not want to leave. A few great workers to mention are gym trainer Ricardo, shuttle driver Martin, pool entertainer Eric and Eduardo, many others. [Details]

Villa Lauguna Suite was great!!
Trev, Calgary, AB
2023-03-10
Second time here, the first was in platinum and this time the Villa Laguana adult suites. Loved the room and private pool area, the perks of this suite is exclusive beach chairs and servers and private pool which is so much more enjoyable then the party pool scenes. We love the landscaping and vastness of this resort but be prepared to do some walking which helps burn off the buffet meals. It was a very busy resort at times but never had issues with dinner or getting chairs, etc. It was worth the extra money in our opinion to upgrade if you can. Every staff member was excellent and we love this about this resort, they all work so hard to please guests. The negative is really mother natures fault as the beach is really eroding and sargassum sea weed is getting very bad the crew work so hard trying to remove it but its a battle they cant win. We just wade thru to areas of sea that are clear but some people wont go near sea weed. Being beach lovers it was discouraging to see how bad the beach is getting since we were here 4 years ago. The staff was all pleasant and were all accommodating with the exception of a couple of the bartenders at the sports bar late night they seemed to only tend to the guests that were drunk tippers. Honest Review from a Canadian
Laura Robinson, Crossfield, AB
2023-01-28
This resort was the biggest resort we have ever been to. We have been to five star resorts in Cuba, Dominican, Mexico, Jamaica and this is by far the nicest one. We had a swim out room. The weather was absolutely gorgeous the entire time, we went for a week, and one day it rained for about 1.5 hours.
Pro points: This is a VERY clean resort, very well taken care of. The people there work hard to keep it clean of garbage and used cups. The grass, trees, flowers, and walkways are clean and very well maintained. Even the public bathrooms are spotless. Pools are cleaned every morning of leaves. We noticed there were little to no bugs at all, anywhere. There are lots of animals we saw here, Coati's, Iguanas, Monkeys, kitties. It was easy to get food at all times of day. Drinks are good. Very friendly and attentive staff that work hard. Lots of grass, trees, different vegetation & nature. I love how green the grass is and how well everything is maintained on the entire property. They are cleaning the walkways every night and maintaining everything constantly. We had no issues with our room at all. The bed and pillows we found to be very comfortable. Clean room. Good maid service, clean towels and bed, nothing was ever taken from our room during the entire stay and we had a stocked mini fridge every day. Kept stuff in the safe and we had no issues with the safe. Lots of space on the entire resort to go and do your own thing. You could hang out together with people, or take a walk by yourself and go sit somewhere more secluded. Love the waking paths in the evening. Food was of good quality and quite the selection. The coffee at this resort is AMAZING. We are still talking about it. Our swim out room was a lot of fun and I would definitely suggest it. We found the pool by our swim out to be the most quiet, so we spent a lot of our time there. We liked the vibe of the resort, there are more quiet places to relax, and more party like places to have fun. Lots of kind and friendly people we met at this resort.
Con points: We have a 10 year old that did not attend this trip with us, and we found this resort to have WAY to many very small children (new born baby to 4 years old). We hung out in the more quiet pool area, but every single meal we had (no exaggeration here ) there was a screaming, crying child. The children at this resort were not very well behaved and the parents seemed to not care, lots of times we saw a kid laying on the floor of a buffet or running around during a reservation meal. Lots of brand new babies- The room two doors down from us had a brand new baby and she had him on a monitor and every time he would cry she would bring him out of the room, so he would scream and cry poolside beside us. My husband and I really found the children thing to be the only thing to deter us from returning here, possibly looking at the sister resort to this one that is adults only. We met another couple here that also has children that said the same thing. If you love seafood, the food will be upsetting to you. We were disappointed that there was NO seafood at ALL at any buffet or reservation restaurant, other than a sushi night at one buffet. Rarely any fish. No smoked salmon, crab, shrimp, lobster, clams, muscles, scallops, etc. The only place at the resort to eat and sit by the beach, you must pay extra for. This should be included, we heard a lot of other people mention it. It's call the Chill Out. The beach is of course gorgeous. A few rocky spots but nice beach. Wayyyy too many people on the beach for my liking, very over crowded. There is one bar at the beach and it's a long line and quite a long wait to get your drink, with only two bartenders. I heard a few people complain about that. Bartenders were super friendly and funny, the one was doing some pretty cool tricks. The people that work at the resort trying to sell the “Spa” are a bit overwhelming. There are too many, we got asked at least 5-6 times a day by multiple people and swarmed at the beach at every chance. They do work hard to keep seaweed away from the beach here. Our room was called at 7:00 AM the first 2 days and woke us up so we unplugged the phone for the entire time we were there.
Overall, we would go back to this resort, maybe our travel agent would know the better time when there are less small kids. Our travel agent did an amazing job arranging everything for us. Flight times were good, resort was great. Would rate this trip fairly high. [Details]

Staff were always scrubbing and cleaning everything all the time. The pool areas and deck areas were constantly deck brushed and pressure washed. All the staff were very friendly and almost always greeted us. We encountered some of the upper managers who always seemed genuinely concerned that we have a positive experience. The ala'cart restaurant app was easy to use for booking our dinner reservations. The food was good, the buffet food could be cold depending on what it was but I'm not a huge buffet fan anyway. My wife and I did have tacos from the taco pool cart and believe we were sick for a day as a result. [Details]

The rooms are fantastic and kept very clean, ours led out to the swimming pool. The spa in the pool was broken and the pool heater turned off half way through the week. Within minutes of arrival and posing as a hotel employee this person started describing the layout of the hotel, and talking about trips and we got pulled into Time Share talk. I am usually very savvy about this but didn't expect it at "Check in". Time share people are very aggressive at this hotel and "No doesn't mean No". It means get another person to persuade you and then another.. We go on holiday to relax otherwise I would go and camp in a Car showroom. [Details]

We had a great time at our resort. Awesome experience for the price point. We love our nature and animals. Be prepared to see coatie, spider monkeys, iguanas, parrots, deer, pelicans, crocodile right on the resort. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Remember to lock your patio door or coatie and monkeys might help themselves to your snacks. Food and drinks were good. Buffet has a different theme everyday and 1 per day a la carte. Entertainment staff were so fun, activities always going for old and young people. We had a swim up room by the fantasy pool, and it was worthy every cent! We will definitely return to this resort. This resort for me is comparable to a 3.5 star resort Pizza was the worst I've seen at the buffet and at the Italian restaurant always undercooked. Most people that ordered pizza at the Italian restaurant wouldn't eat it, because it came to the table always undercooked, you think the chef would get the message. The rest of the food was average We stayed for two weeks, the Wi-Fi only worked for the first two days the rest of the time we had to activate the roaming to go on the internet. Costing us money we didn't expect to spend. The front desk always had an excuse why the Wi-Fi wasn't working. The maid did a good job, but we had bugs crawling in the washroom and around the bed. There were two buffet restaurants side by side, one of them had terrible service, The pools were great, but it was hard to find an available chair under a hut. As expected a lot of see weeds along the beach and shoreline. I would go to a smaller resort next time Probably an Iberostar. [Details]

MASSIVE RESORT!
Belle, Surrey, BC

Didn't think this resort would be so MASSIVE! and very busy! It's two resorts in one -- Grand Sunset Princess and Grand Riviera Princess. They each have their own lobby, but they share all of the amenities. We were booked in Grand Sunset Princess.
They have a lot of restaurants to choose from, but they weren't really that good in my opinion. This is one thing I think they can improve on. A la carte food are all the same as what they serve in the buffet. Only difference is how it's presented.
There's lots of seaweed on the beach!
They have a kayak and paddleboard you can use for free which we enjoyed.
Nice spa and gym.
Shows were pretty decent.
Overall, it's a decent resort. I think it's great for families. [Details]

[Details]
Best vacation ever!
Sensational trip to Sunset
Enjoyed the wildlife. My wife became sick for a few days, the chef/cook and the staff in the buffet went above and beyond to make certain dishes as well as ginger tea to help her feel better.
They were amazing!! [Details]

Honest Review from a Canadian
[Details]
Grand Sunset Princess
1st time in Mexico
Great vacation, huge resort.
Great vacation
Love the place
Grand Sunset Princess all suites and spa
Great resort for animal lovers
Mediocre experience
Pizza was the worst I've seen at the buffet and at the Italian restaurant always undercooked.
Most people that ordered pizza at the Italian restaurant wouldn't eat it, because it came to the table always undercooked, you think the chef would get the message.
The rest of the food was average
We stayed for two weeks, the Wi-Fi only worked for the first two days the rest of the time we had to activate the roaming to go on the internet.
Costing us money we didn't expect to spend.
The front desk always had an excuse why the Wi-Fi wasn't working.
The maid did a good job, but we had bugs crawling in the washroom and around the bed.
There were two buffet restaurants side by side, one of them had terrible service,
The pools were great, but it was hard to find an available chair under a hut.
As expected a lot of see weeds along the beach and shoreline.
I would go to a smaller resort next time
Probably an Iberostar. [Details]
MASSIVE RESORT!
[Details]
