The staff are polite, professional and happy to be there. They are what made the experience so memorable. The Mexican cuisine is the best of all the food. I just returned from Secrets Akumal and it was amazing. I went on this trip with my best friend mainly because we wanted to snorkel with the turtles, which was amazing. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is friendly and gets to know you. Was an overall unbelievable experience. Already looking to return. [Details]

My husband and I travel a lot. I was hesitant to go to Mexico because my last visit left me feeling really neutral about Mexico. Nothing was really memorable. I am thrilled to report that our experience at Secrets Akumal was nothing short of magical! I honestly can't say anything negative about this experience. Right from the moment we got out of our taxi and entered the lobby we were made to feel welcome with wet towels and champagne. The check in was efficient, warm and friendly. Our room was upgraded immediately without even asking and what a beautiful room it was! So clean! The staff in every single department were amazing. Each one made an effort to see how our trip was going and I felt they were truly sincere when they inquired. Every lounge chair was in perfect condition with a nice clean cushion on it. They had lot's of umbrellas by the beach and always tons of towels available. The beach service was constant and included delivering food as well as drinks. I never once heard the word "no!" I was treated to a romantic breakfast delivered to our room complete with the concierge who set it up on our balcony. Completely blew me away! I never had a meal I didn't like. The Japanese restaurant was both entertaining and good. Huge portions! The entertainment team were great. They worked from sun up to sun down to insure everyone who wanted to participate did. This is a fairly new resort from the Secrets chain. The staff was very nice. Food was really good, especially for my wife who has celiac disease. All restaurants on the the resort had many gluten-free items to choose from.

On the down side, we were asked to participate to a resort presentation which is a marketing stunt where they take 90 minutes of your time the day after you check-in (you have to sign-up for it). They basically try to sell you a timeshare.

If you don't want to be bothered, don't sign-up for that. They put a lot of pressure on you. The only good thing coming out of it is after your 90 minutes, they give you a 200$ voucher for the spa as well as a 3 days 2 nights stay at a much cheaper price.

Also, we didn't like the toilet in terms of privacy. There's only a frosted glass door and you can hear everything.

Our overall experience was very pleasant and we hope to go again (Secrets Akumal or any other Secrets).

What a fabulous week at an incredible resort! We were unsure how smooth things would be since the resort had only been open just over a month when we arrived. We were not disappointed! The resort was beautiful, the staff took care of our every need and were always happy, the food was delicious, pools were all heated (even our swim out pool from our room), the beach area was beautiful!
