Amazing Vacation
Just returned from 2 amazing weeks at the Azul Ixtapa Grand Resort. The whole resort is beautiful. Rooms are very spacious with a jacuzzi tub in each. And the views are incredible, full ocean view from EVERY room. There is a pool for everyone, affinity with the most amazing view, activity for those who need to keep moving, and an adults only for quiet. The beach is small but the work hard to keep it maintained and added a floating dock. The spa is very professional. With each service you have an hours use of the therapy pool - sauna - steam room. So many options for free activities with your stay. I kayaked to Ixtapa island 3 times, highly recommend this. It's a short walk to Playa Linda with a huge beach and calm ocean, shopping, and restaurants, crocodiles. Oh and the golden sand at playa Linda and the Ixtapa Azul is so pretty. A very cheap bus ride or reasonable cab ride to Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo if you want to leave the resort but there is enough to do right there too. Food - there are 4 Alacarte restaurants and they are all amazing, great food and service. 1 buffet with pretty good food but it was often cold and it is very loud like a cafeteria, and the chairs are plastic and uncomfortable, sitting in the outside part is better. The buffet would be my only criticism of this resort. The snack bar had good burgers and fresh fish! Drinks are plentiful and a great variety! I was fond of the dirty monkeys and mojitos. But the green boar was also good.

Would probably return. More good than bad
Overall we liked the riu palace and would probably return. Ill start with complaints... Our room had a plug in cover for missing/broken and one of the jet apparatuses in the tub fell out while my kids were bathing. There was a half frozen bottle of water that wasnt the hotels brand of water in our fridge when we first entered the room which i found gross, also a plastic shaver blade cover was also on edge of tub which wasnt ours so it makes you wonder how well they clean after checkout. The staff were all very nice and friendly and many of them went out of their way to talk to my kids and make them feel special. We walked down to the riu jalisco and it had 2 out of the 3 slides in the pool taped off with caution tape as they were in need of repair, the lobby is quite dated and 80s feeling, but the kids pool was great there and my kids asked to go to that pool a few times throughout the week. The riu vallarta seemed modern and hip near pool, we didnt go into lobby at all but ive heard it was recently redone. We didnt eat at the jalisco or Vallarta just had drinks while we were there. We were glad we booked the palace as we were originally going to stay at the jalisco. The palace pool is nice and big and there was always food available, waiter service on the beach and by pool too. The entertainment was good every evening and we did a kitchen tour while we were there and a towel animal making activity.

Better Then Ever!
This is our third trip to Excellence Riviera Cancun and it was our best stay yet! I wish I was still there. We have stayed in a few different room types...I don't think there is a bad room at this resort. This resort has the perfect balance of excellent service, food and location (25 minutes from the airport). We have stayed at many all inclusive resorts including Sandals but we keep coming back to this one. I cannot stress the excellent service enough. Many days while lazing by the pool, staff would bring hot pizza or fresh cut fruit and you weren't at a pool long before someone was there to offer you a drink. Housekeeping was spot on as usual even catering to us leaving extra water once realizing how much water we drink. I always put a water on my night stand and after the first night the turn down service noticed this and would put a cold bottle of water on my night stand and a glass. It's the small details like this that make this resort so special. I should mention the Excellence Club pool is heated and there is a non-club pool that is heated as well. Although the weather was so hot during our stay that we swam the non-heated pools more. Overall, we swam and enjoyed all pools. We also swam the ocean and it was warm...there was only one day the seaweed came up on shore and staff worked tirelessly to clean it up. Thank you to all the Staff at Excellence Riviera Cancun...you are what make this resort so special!!! We can't wait to return back to our second home!

A Bit Disappointing
I would not classify this resort a 4 Diamond, more like 4 Star. I understand there are not many resorts in Huatulco, so this is probably the best. I have stayed in many resorts so I have a sufficient amount of points to compare to. The rooms are all ocean views which is nice. However the rooms are dated, there is no decor throughout the whole resort. The beds are extremely uncomfortable. The pools are fantastic, however, there are never any pool towels. If you were not up by 7:00 am to run down to save lounge chairs, you did not get one. There needs to be a better system. There were lounge chairs with towels on them, but were not used for half the day. We upgraded to the Preferred Club and don't feel it was worth the extra money. We did not even have bath towels in our room the first day. Didn't realize until we had a shower. Had to call 3 times to get towels. We were supposed to have pool towels and fruit platter with wine upon arrival in our room. It took my travel agent to call the 3rd day to get wine and 5 strawberries. Do not upgrade to Preferred. Not worth it in this resort. The toilet has no privacy. You have a glass wall and door with a bit of frosting to cover where you sit. Happen to be going to the washroom when room service came to the door and could not open the door because he would have seen me going to the bathroom. The private beaches are fantastic. The staff are very nice and the resort is clean. The food was good, but restaurants are very warm at night. Men had to wear pants (dress shorts were not allowed) if you wanted to sit in the restaurants, but the AC was not enough to stay cool. Definately not worth $1000/day it cost us.
