Food and staff and location. Close to train station, easy to walk around town. Friendly helpful staff.

Hotel Darsena was for sure a hidden gem! I don't have a negative thing to say about them. Rooms are not fancy but are comfortable. The level of cleanliness cannot be faulted. The meals were very enjoyable & provided a good cross-section of real home-style Italian menu. Not for someone seeking fine cuisine, but we enjoyed it thoroughly. The beach was fine, well-maintained with enough chairs & umbrellas. The sand is blackish & so does not appear post-card beautiful but the water is clear & very warm. Life guards on duty & very diligent. Location is ideal. Unless you have physical challenges, everything is walking distance - train station, sight seeing, restaurants, etc. Being a smaller town, we found it less expensive than a big city, easier to navigate & a safer place to be in. The strong points

not your run of the mill 3-star hotel. staff is excellent, high standards of cleanliness & organization. very interesting menus served home-style. relaxing & comfortable.

The weak points

language barrier. OK if you are French Canadian or Italian but very limited English communication. Not a fault of the hotel, but Ideal tours is just horrific!!! Can't stress enough the level of poor sevice they provided on transfers & excursions.

Overall this was a great experience; Although the hotel was what we expected for a three star facility, having an open mind to the language barrier certainly will help when staying here. We took several day trips through our travel rep but were surprised when returning back from a long day of travel that we were not able to enjoy a full meal. When they say dinner is served until 9pm they mean it regardless of the fact that we were not repsonsible for our late return time. Food alternatives were lacking however we were able to have the option of dining in the village and paying for our meal. Roberto the bartender was a sigh of relief as he was very friendly and tried to speak english. Note this is not a place to party as we were asked to keep the conversations down during a game of cards at 11pm in the bar and lights were shutting down as were playing. A trip is what you make of it and we certainly did not let these minor issues ruin our european experience. [Details]
