Hotel was 5 star. Very friendly staff and helpful. Clean hotel and lobby .Can be difficult to get loungers by the pool as people go out early in the morning lay their towels for the entire day and may only show up for 2 hours. Same issue at the beach. This should not be allowed in my opinion. [Details]

This was the best vacation that I have had. 2 weeks allowed enough time to really unwind and destress. I would go back again. Locals are very friendly and happy.
The weak points
On the down side if you have a pool side suite expect extremely loud music until 11pm. I would not stay at the poolside rooms again
Massages are so overpriced and basically just a rub down. If you are expecting massage therapist techniques don't bother.
Sanitary measures (Covid-19)
Place is very clean, but there are no covid measures in place.

Grand Aquamarine good and bad
Terry Hornstein, Calgary, AB
2022-11-14
Overall was good. Not much English spoken so hard for staff to communicate with guests. Guest services has no clue what is going on throughout the complex. No info on entertainment around the complex, we had to find the stage with entertainment ourselves. Heard about a market that takes place every week at the complex that the 5th front desk staff we asked over 3 days knew about. Everything is maximum 15 minute walk from where we stayed (Aquamarine) and we were constantly told to take the tram. We ended up walking 3 minutes to dinner one night after guest services recommended a tram as we were told it was a good 10-15 minute walk! The rooms were clean but we needed to go find a broom to sweep our room on 2 different days that crumbs and sand were on the floor after bed was made and not much else. We stripped the bed 4 days in as the sheets are not changed for the 7 day visit. We had 1 excellent meal out of 7 a La carte meals. 3 were decent and the other 3 were not enjoyable. Buffet food was mediocre at best. The staff should be trained in the basics of English and should know the difference between words like “hot” and “cold”, etc. they look at you and walk away clueless. The music at the adults only pool was on the loudest large speaker from 10:00 am until end of the day with classes being led by staff with microphones yelling in to them over the music. Hardly relaxing for the vast majority of people not participating. Mosquitoes were unpleasant and we were hard pressed to find anti itch cream until we went in to the city on an excursion where our private tour guide took us in to a pharmacy. Otherwise the resort is lovely and clean. Mostly friendly staff but no “Englais”. Beach is outstanding and pool is huge and lovely but the constant loud banging music was not enjoyable. Our private excursion to Santo Domingo was outstanding. [Details]

Perfect Vacation
Jessie Grant, Smithville, ON

The Bahia Principe Aquamarine was a wonderful experience! My husband and I stayed here for 10 days for our anniversary and everything was great!
We were able to choose a different a la carte dinner for EVERY SINGLE NIGHT if you wanted to. And it could all be done either through the app or the touchscreens in the main lobby. We did attend 7 of the different restaurants and all were wonderful. A special shoutout to the Japanese Teppanyaki, Tequila Mexican restaurant, and the Greek. The food and the service were impeccable.
The breakfast buffet just so happened to be right next to our room so that was an added bonus. The staff and serves, including Nikaury and Francis, were always smiling, helpful, and quick to fill your glass or take your empty plate. My husband really enjoyed the eggs and omlettes that Gabriel at the omlette station made.
We spent the majority of our time at the beach! There is a special section for Aquamarine that is adult only, and has it's own dedicated beach bar and staff. Juan and Charina were especially friendly, welcoming us every time we arrived, saying "good bye and see you a manana" every time we left, and being quick to offer to fill our bubba! We felt like royalty on the beach! The beach lunch was fine, but basic. They had the same items daily with not a ton of variety. The other lunch buffet at the actual resort had much more variety and better options.
We would grab drinks in the lobby bar some evenings to enjoy the evening entertainment at the resort. Jorge was always there with a smile to take our order and fill our glasses quickly. The evening shows had good variety, from singers, live bands, a burlesque show, fire show and even a pool party. There is also the main Theater, where the dancing and acrobats were quite phenomenal, and the Bahia Principe Village with a sports/karaoke bar, casino, disco and theatre with live music every evening.
The entertainment staff sure look like they are having a ton of fun! Joel, Catrina and Marielle were always smiling and FULL of energy! While we didn't always partake in the activities, it was great to see how much they enjoyed their jobs.
Our room was always clean and Rosalea Feliz did a great job, occasionally even making our towels into swans, which is always a fun treat!
Overall, we had an amazing time at the Bahia Principe Aquamarine! We would go again and would recommend to everyone. [Details]

A la carte dinners were FANTASTIC. A lot of variety and you could have one each night if you wanted. The beach and beach bar were great, though maybe a few more shady options would be helpful.
The weak points
A little further from the beach than we would like but there are trolleys if you need them so it was not bad at all.

Definitely not a 5 star. I say that bcs I have been in DR many times in other 5 star. Cannot compare with RIU for example. Far from beach hotel& restaurant, long waiting time for drink, only 1 coffee machine breaks down often at the fast food restaurant by the beach( they could put 2 instead) hard matress no elevator to 3 floor no alcohol in room no access to other bahia resort , not even for a cooffe . Ala carte Portofino and Capricio are very far from italian cussine ( Im not using word horrible). The beach was a swamp bcs of the weeds ; first 2 days they didnt even clean the shore. I understand not much they can do in the water but if I knew I'd go somewhere else… [Details]

We very much enjoyed our stay here. The staff was great however having more Spanish made have made communication easier. The accommodations were nice however our room requests for double beds and adjoining rooms did not happen. There was repairs that need to happen including a leak in the ceiling one night (it was attended to quickly once we told the desk staff.). Food was very good and the selection and options for where to eat was great. Entertainment staff were very friendly and the bartenders would make you anything you like. The resort was kept very clean at all times. [Details]

The resort is very beautiful and food was great. Lots of options to eat and drink at all the resorts in the complex as well.
The weak points
Some repairs needed in the rooms and accommodations requests were not granted. It may have been easier if staff at the desk knew more English or if we new more Spanish. Water pressure in the shower was very poor. Internet access was spotty at times.

The staff wore masks at all times and tables were clearly marked as being cleaned. All common areas were maintained at all times.

We stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe Aquamarine and thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. From check-in to check-out, and everything in between, the staff were lovely. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Our rooms were large and nicely appointed. The cleaning staff were attentive and cleaned the rooms everyday before we came back from the beach so we were never inconvenienced.
The lobby had great entertainment and shoutout to Bethana for her great service.
There were lots of choices at the buffet and the food was changed up regularly so always a new experience. Absolutely loved the outdoor patio off of the buffet.
The a la carte restaurants were good, the El Olivo was my favourite.
The beach is lovely and the Aquamarine has a section roped off so we were always able to get a seat.
The beach buffet was okay but the food was the same daily and the staff not as attentive as the staff at the Aquamarine, but this did not negatively impact our experience. [Details]

So so stay at the Bahai Principe
Steph B., Toronto, ON
2022-03-06
The Bahai Principe is a sprawling complex that contains six or so themed areas that cater for every tastes - the one we were at was an adults only, rated at 5 stars when we booked. However, I believe the Ambar (?) area is the one you want to stay in if you want that five-star experience . The Aquamarine was not at that level. For example, the balcony furniture was ragged - not major, but not five star either. Website and app needs to be more prescriptive as to what you can do and access (we were loudly told we could not get a coffee in a certain part of the compound). Boards that stated the activities, entertainment for the day/evening did not tell you where it was located. Food was OK at first, but we both ended up with food poisoning on separate nights which marred the last two days of our short stay. In short, the experience was not that great and we will not go back. [Details]

The most terrible resort ever
Nadia Haidar, Toronto, ON
2021-11-27
The staff at this resort are extremely rude and unprofessional. Rooms were NEVER cleaned and mini fridge was never replenished. It was a constant battle to try to get drinking water. Towels and linen were always stained yellow, and room was very outdated with no working AC. Everytime I filed a complaint and asked for assistance, I was ignored and no managment ever intervened. I've never been so traumatized while on a vacation. I was always concerned for the health and safety of my family here because I never witnessed a table being sprayed and wiped down. Social distancing signs were there, but NEVER practiced or enforced by staff. I've witnessed staff take the "clean and disinfected" sign and put it on a dirty table that was used by others. Food was disgusting, old, reheated food that they later use in the a la cart restaurants. I found a hair in my food at the buffet at Aquario with pictures to prove. Just read the reviews on this place on Google. The low rating reviews are most accurate, and im starting to think the 5 star reviews are fake. This resort needs health and safety inspectors to come and evaluate because what I witnessed was alarming. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere, this place is a nightmare. [Details]

Made the best of our stay.
Ek, Toronto, ON
2021-11-17
Based on our experience at the hotel I would not stay again or recommend it to friends or family. We made the best of our stay and many of our experiences were positive, for example the entertainment team especially Maridania and many of the bartenders especially Carlos. The facilities outside of the room were nice (pool/beach loungers and umbrellas, the pool, the food), however the beach is not a white sandy beach but the water is clean. The food during our stay varied and was yummy, most of the a la carte restaurants were very delicious. One of our biggest concerns with our stay was the service from the front desk and problem resolution/follow up. Many of the front desk staff, were often rude and dismissive. We had many issues with our room to the point that they changed us rooms at 2 am in the morning, after waiting 1h and 30 minutes for answers.
To outline our issues specifically, in our first room the lights were not working all the time, we had no blackout/privacy blinds and the minibar wasn't cold. We informed them of these issues on Monday and they moved us on Wednesday when our light card reader stopped working fully. In the second room on the day we were leaving the washroom was backing up and the toilet and sink were bubbling as well as releasing an awful smell. There was also spotty internet for most of our stay, which really wasn't an issue for us however the whole hotel has switched to a QR code system and really relied on this to communicate (menus, booking tables, ordering room service, booking covid tests, etc.) which made it challenging on days where internet was out. Furthermore, when asking for services that were guaranteed ( for example receiving water bottles in our room) it often lead to dry responses from staff and long wait times to receive more of these items even though they should have been restocked when the room was cleaned. Many times throughout our stay we felt frustrated and felt that we spent a good portion stressed and waiting around. When you go on vacation you don't want to leave saying "we made the best of it" especially at a resort with such a high rating and reviews that seemed to be very positive. [Details]

Although my room had a view of a neighboring resort, it was kept super clean and it was comfortable. Some food seemed to be served cool in the buffet restaurants, and the beach was a little busy when compared with neighboring resorts. Overall it was a beautiful resort/stay and I thought it was good value for the money. The disco at the Bahia Village was really good 5 of my 6 visits, with a good balanced of upbeat North American and Spanish music being played. [Details]

I went with a group of 4, 25 year old guys, so having lots of pool bars, entertainment and places to eat was great. Probably wouldn't go to the older/quite area of the resort we were booked in, but we were a short walk to every other party. Would go again. [Details]
Our experience was fine overall. We were 7 adult people overall (3 couples and 1 single)
The Resort was large and well kept. Weather was great. Bit breezy by the beach all week.
Room - was clean, bathroom was fine. Bed was pretty hard. There was a bit of a musty smell from the shower coming from the drain however as you started to run the water it dissipated. We did have on a couple separate occasions our front door could open without the swipe card (so ensure valuables are in the safe). We called maintenance and they were able to resolve fairly quickly. It is battery operated so probably the batteries were weak and couldn't force the door to lock properly.
Pool - pool area is nice and big and for the most part pretty clean. People will place towels and reserve chairs very early in the morning so it was difficult to find spots (especially if travelling in more than a group of two). On our last day, me and my wife wanted to soak up the sun for the last few hours and we went down at 9am and we literally found two remaining spots for such a large pool area. The resort needs to enforce a better policy on this.
Buffet - food was fine and lots of choices. Service was fine.
A La Carte Restaurants - food was pretty good overall, however the service sometimes lacked but remember its all inclusive so just enjoy the moment. The Nikkei-Mashua restaurant near complex number 85 is very good. El Olivo wasn't that great. As its attached to the Acquario buffet it probably shares same kitchen (my opinion). Reserving was a bit of a challenge, however at one point I wanted the Italian restaurant (Portofino) so I went there on my own to see if we could get in and sure enough they took 7 of us without a reservation.
Beach - there is a section for our hotel patrons. Again, if your not their early you probably won't find loungers with a hut. The lunch buffet was big and great. The water was nice, but there was seaweed at points during the week. The water seemed to come up higher so it didn't seem like there was lots of sand room as compared to other parts when you go for a beach walk.
We did not do any excursions.
Gym was clean and good equipment.
We stayed on resort all week and relaxing. Sports bar area and village was good. [Details]

Great Resort!
K & K Bechard, London, ON
2020-01-31
We've been to the Dominican a few times now and thoroughly enjoyed the Bahia Principe Grand Aquamarine resort.
Location: The resort is close to the airport so we only had to travel 20-25 minutes. This is great for us. We are not fans of driving 1-2 hours to get to our resort.
Check-in: Waited for our room but we arrived at 12:30pm and rooms are not available until 3 pm. We were greeted with a welcome 'coconut-mint' drink...yummy and directed to the buffet section for lunch. Staff were great at the check-in counter. We dealt with 'Manuel' and 'Carlos Mercedes' throughout our stay and found them to be very helpful and funny too.
Check-out: Very organized and seamless.
Room: VERY clean. The ladies do an excellent job with cleaning the room and re-filling the fridge daily. They were also seen around the various bathrooms on the resort....keeping those VERY clean too. We stayed in building 85 and were very happy with the building/room. We had two minor snags. One was the finicky lock on our door and the second was a slow shower drain. We let the front desk (Aquamarine section) know and someone from maintenance was at the room within 30 minutes and fixed the minor issues right away.
Pool/Jacuzzi: Pool area was very clean. Every night we saw them totally scrub down the deck area and employees in and out of the pool cleaning/scrubbing. The Jacuzzi didn't seen to have the same attention as the pool BUT there are fewer people around the Jacuzzi and I think that particular pool system has a timed/built in filter/clean system. The jets would go off for about 15 minutes every 45 minutes and I think it was going through a filtration cycle?
Grounds: Very clean and manicured. The fellas in green shirts were always attending to the gardens. This is a massive resort property. There are trollies that take you from the one end of the property to the other (beach) and run every 5 minutes. You don't wait too long for a ride there. If you are a privileged member you have your own cart/driver.
Food: We only went to 2 al-a-carte restaurants (Nikki's and the Fish Market). These were booked at the time we checked in. We had booked a 3rd restaurant but ended up releasing the reservation because we were very happy with the buffet. Nikki's was fabulous. Fish Market had great food but the service was lacking. I think it's a newer restaurant for them and they were still working out the staffing/service end of things. The buffet in the Aquamarine section had something for everyone. There was a different theme each night so you always had variety. We did not have any issues with the food here.
The service was EXCELLENT. The staff went out of their way to assist or serve guests and were very friendly.
Beach: Lovely beach. Lots of loungers and huts. Because this is a large resort there are LOTS of people making the beach and beach restaurant very busy. Because we stayed on Aquamarine section we had a separate beach section. The beaches are clean and you will see staff cleaning or assisting guests in locating a spare lounger. [Details]

Check in was smooth. We asked for a room in a different building and they didn't hesitate to accommodate our request. Rooms are huge, clean, bright and the beds a very comfortable. The grounds are stunning. The buffets and restaurants we visited are all delicious with something for the pickiest eaters. It is a long walk to the beach however you can take the train that comes constantly. Once you're at the beach, everything is provided including another huge buffet, bar, washrooms, pool and towel service. This resort is huge so you will be on the train often if you want to take part in the activities in the sports area or in the village for evening shows, casino and night life. Overall, for the price, the value is outstanding! [Details]

My boyfriend and I fell in love with this hotel considering the amazing food, the beautiful view, the outstandingly clean hotel room we had and the amazing people there. We will never forget our favourite waiter that always brought happiness and joy from his service named Nõnõ! We always tipped our waiters and maids and sometimes bartenders because of how delightful they were. The only cons we would say is the beach distance and how packed it gets there. It was difficult to get a spot anywhere on the beach and it was attached with obviously another section of the hotel. The live entertainment is definitely underwhelming and quite repetitive which is expected when you're vacationing for the next 7 days. It was also difficult for us to book an al a carte restaurant so we ended up just eating at the buffet, which we honestly didn't mind at all. We had only one problem in our hotel room which was the bath tub. We noticed water leaking from the side of it making a slight puddle on the washroom floor but we didn't think much of it! Overall, the experience was wonderful and we would definitely like to come back. [Details]

Our biggest concern was that we had water coming in from the ceiling (apparently caused by the air conditioner) as we were located on the top floor and our toilet kept running. It took the staff 4 days before they came to fix the problems. [Details]

This is an adult only section of a large resort. It is kept very clean and the grounds are spectacular. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.
The weak points
This was our second trip to this location. We last vacationed there in 2017 and we found that the quality and service had gone down from a 5 star to a 3 star. One restaurant, the Santa Fee, had the worst service. Although we had a reservation, we had a lo

Grand Bahia Principe Aquamarine Stayed Feb 19-26 Usually in my reviews I give a bunch of advice to guests to make their stay more enjoyable like don't drink the water, etc. But this time I'm going to give the hotel advice on how to make a guest's stay more enjoyable. I won't be back but maybe by next season if some improvements are made it will encourage people to go back. CHAIR RESERVING: This part of my stay was extremely stressful and frustrating. That anyone has to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve a chair by the pool is crazy making. I had a room that overlooked the pool. There were some chairs that did not have people in them all day and the hotel does nothing to police it. The hotel needs to regularly police the pool area and remove towels from chairs that have been empty for a while. They should not be giving out towels until 11am and give people a chance to have breakfast, change into their swimsuits and hit the pool. The reason the pool fills up so fast is because the beach is so far away. It's the same thing at the beach. Lots of beach loungers with towels and no people. No one should have to be stressed out while on vacation because they can't find a place to relax. BEACH AREA: Each hotel on the complex is supposed to have their own area on the beach. But the only area I could see that was roped off or marked was the Prestige Club. We were told a general area of where our beach was but there is no signage for any of the hotels in this complex. Every time we asked where our beach was we were given a different answer. One day we made our way over to the far side which is the Fantasia resort and were greeted by a security guard who informed us that this was not our beach but he said tomorrow we could go to our own beach (yeah if we could find it). There were people with every bracelet colour sitting everywhere. So why even pretend that each hotel has their own area if you aren't going to give proper signage or cordon it off or enforce it? That's just lip service and serves no purpose except again to make your guests frustrated. BEDS: The beds are as hard as cement slabs and very hard to sleep comfortably in. Consider getting new ones. SIGNAGE: I realize that you rebranded Ambar Blue and Ambar Green into Ambar and Aquamarine but there is still old signage that refers to their old names. As well the maps that you give out with the room cards don't even have the latest resort, Fantasia, on it. Your signage generally is confusing and again frustrating. MAID SERVICE: One thing you should keep in mind for North Americans is that they use wash cloths. We had them for the first 5 days and then all of a sudden we didn't get any. First day we didn't get any I requested them through the app and they appeared. I thought that would clue the maid in that we wanted them every day. The second day we didn't get any either, and we also didn't get any new water. Or more towels. So I requested them through the app. I got the water and 2 towels but no wash cloths. The maid said 5 minutes. After an hour I put in another request on the app and they were delivered. Just keep in mind that North Americans use wash cloths. LOBBIES: Why are their two lobbies called Aquamarine? A smaller one and then the bigger lobby? One time we got on the trolley and asked to be taken to the Aquamarine lobby and he took us to the smaller one farther away instead of the larger one. Again very frustrating when you end up someplace other than you intended. It happened all week. It took us about 5 days to master the way around the resort. It's just too big and if it keeps growing the problems will keep getting bigger as well. The one high point of our visit was the a la carte Portofino which is Italian. It was an amazing meal. A meal that we would actually have paid for. The deconstructed soup was a very good surprise. The pizza was good as was the tortellini. The desert was excellent. We met the manager and told him so. Very professionally run. The wait staff were fully trained and totally attentive. The M.E.A.T. Steakhouse was ok. The steaks had a lot of grizzle and fat. But again the desserts were nice. And we had a cocktail, I think it was called a Whiskey Jam and it was served very chilled and was very good. The food at our buffet was just OK. You could get fresh cooked fish. One time I tried the roast beef and it was dried out and over cooked. There is variety but it's the same thing every day. So that's my review. I won't be back. I don't go on vacation to be frustrated and stressed out. As others have said everything looks nice, is clean and the grounds are kept looking wonderful. But it just wasn't fun. [Details]

Clean, beautiful grounds. Elegant settings. Some a la cartes good if you can get into them. Good but not great buffet.
The weak points
People reserve pool chairs all day and it is not policed. Confusing signage. Unreliable shuttles. Too far from the beach. Beach is not well marked in regard to which area belongs to which resort. Again overcrowded and reserved seats.

.Can be difficult to get loungers by the pool as people go out early in the morning lay their towels for the entire day and may only show up for 2 hours. Same issue at the beach. This should not be allowed in my opinion. [Details]

Perfect Vacation
[Details]

Relaxing time at Aquamarine
Wonderful Vacation
Medium quality
Good week at the Aquamarines
The most terrible resort ever
Made the best of our stay.
[Details]
No major or moderate issues to frown on
Good vibes
Probably wouldn't go to the older/quite area of the resort we were booked in, but we were a short walk to every other party.
Would go again. [Details]
Grand Aquamarine
[Details]
Disappointed
Great Resort!
[Details]
