A relaxing resort.

We arrived at the resort shortly after lunch and were welcomed with a smile and a tropical and refreshing drink. The meeting with the travel agency representative was scheduled for the following day. We were offered a Deluxe studio facing a construction site and a view on the golf course. At this time my wife asked the possibility of having a room somewhere else and without asking, the hostess gave us a studio facing the ocean. The site, the beach, the gardens, the room, everything is super clean and well maintained. The resort was very quiet, and at the swimming pool as well as on the beach, there was always plenty of space to sit with or without a parasol.

Now, the less interesting side of the Alsol del mar. Very rarely did we have our room cleaned before late afternoon. Once, the room lady even asked if we wanted our bed made? It was after 4. Yes we replied and within the next 2 hours, another lady came, replaced the pillow cases and pulled the bed sheets down. We are early birds, and left the room usually at 07:30 in the morning, leaving the card 'Prepare the Room' on the handle. Most of the time, we came back after lunch and the room had not been cleaned.

We had over 40 meals at the resort and after each we were presented with an invoice giving the details of what was served, drinks, service and taxes were indicated, the sub-total and then a space for the tip and then the total. Our package was an All Inclusive one, and being used to the usual style of All Inclusive, meaning bracelets, we found this very irritating. We felt it was an indication they wanted a tip, which we would put on the table anyway if we were satisfied with the service, which happened most of the time. But not always, unfortunately. In any case, the waiters and waitresses, the bartenders, the room maid, the porters and the activities organizers, were given around $150.00 US during our stay.

The other Alsol resorts were away from our Del Mar resort and we had to take a taxi to get there, only $6.00 round trip. The one shopping mall visit offered by the hotel which we went on was not worth it as items were over-priced.

A lovely place to relax for sure, but not at the beach bar where it was the only place we could eat for lunch; Most activities are made close to the bar and the music was so loud, we had to ask to lower it down.

The breakfast was served in a buffet style with similar items day after day but the worst of this was the lunch menu. For the 2 weeks period, we had the same menu consisting mainly with 2 kind of salad, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, burgers served with fries and fish served with rice . Unfortunately, we do not eat this kind of food at home and we felt forced to eat salad and fish for 2 weeks.

The first Sunday we were at the resort, we met some Canadian people and join them for a glass of wine. Before our meal was finished, we ordered some more wine and we told there was no more wine and none would be available before the day after. We coped with this without complaining and returned to the beach. The morning after, it was time for lunch, a bit after 12 o'clock and ordered some food and asked for wine., Same reply, no more wine and if we want some it would take awhile before getting it. Some of the waiter went to the main bar and came back with half of a bottle of white and 3 quarters of red. This a 4* and a half hotel. At the beach bar, the red wine was served very cold, direct from the refrigerator and at night, the wine was served very warm, at the room temperature.

Sorry, for the kind of hotel, this is unacceptable. These remarks are just an overview of our feelings towards this Condo hotel. We would not return to this resort and would most likely not recommend it to family or friends. [Details]

Check in at 6:30 PM. Left the room for dinner and drinks around 8 PM came back around 10:30 PM. in the morning I couldn't open the safe deposit box. The message on the screen Error code.
I reported the issue and the head of security came to the room. He used his master code and opened it. He asked me to check if anything was missing. At a first glance, my wallet with Canadian money, the envelope with US $ were there as well as the rest of the valuables. I signed and he left.
It was later that I noticed that out of 195 Canadian dollars, a hundred $ bill was missing and out of 280 US dollars $70 were missing. I reported this and the same supervisor made an “investigation”.
lol.... BS, that's what I thought about his investigation. This is an inside job. Just taking a few bucks thinking we won't notice and its not done by a regular employee but a supervisor with someone in upper management on it. So if, you're going there bring a hidden camera maybe you'll catch a thief.

The strong points
waitstaff, bartenders and entertainment team. Pool area.
The weak points
security, management, room cleanliness breakfast buffet meats and cheeses displayed on a table not on ice or fridge, no cooking station eggs are cooked in the kitchen and displayed under a lamp beach water is brown didn't see anyone swim in it.
