Our FAVORITE place in the world!
From the second we got off the bus to the second we got back on it, our entire trip was a dream! It was our second time there, and we are already planning our next! The staff is amazing! They make sure your every whim is looked after. We have an 8 year old and 2.5 year old so we book the family suite, and have a stunning view of the resort and the ocean! The 2 room suite is a plus because we have a separate living space and bathroom from our kids! The rooms are brand new and no expense was spared. From the waterfall tile and glass shower to the chic and modern decor of the room. Every day our fridges were filled with water, Fanta, sparkling wine and rum! The pools are kept pristine, the cabana beds are great for relaxing, the infinity pool is magazine worthy, the inflatable jumper in the pool kept our kids having a blast all day long! The pirate ship water park was a hit as well! The 24 hour bar area was our favorite place to hang with constant entertainment and the view of the ocean! The beach is just perfect! The white sandy beach, the turquoise water! The beach bar and servers were always making sure our drinks were full! The staff deserve to be mentioned again! Even with masks you could see the smile through their eyes. Always making sure everything was perfect, that you didn't need a single thing. From remembering your drink order and just bringing it over, to going through extra mile to make your children smile with a flower for their hair. The staff is what makes you fall in love with this already beautiful place. Cuba is struggling right now, with food supply and variety. But on resort you would've never known. My husband ate so much shrimp, lobster, crab, fish he could've swam home! The breakfast omelette bar was a thing of dreams! The buffet always had a great selection of chicken, pork and beef. You definitely won't go hungry! We just recommend when travelling with kids to bring ketchup! The restaurants are GREAT! The Asian is a hibachi table and the chef puts on an entertaining show! The Seafood is a full lobster and fabulous shrimp cocktail! The nightly shows were fun as well! We highly recommend the water ballet! With the short food supply/variety currently, we can't wait to see what the food will be like when it's over! The coral reef just off the beach is pure beauty- we highly recommend if you get the opportunity to snorkel go! There are lifeguards on the beach who will safely take you out for a modest price. The wifi is much better than a few years ago in Cuba, but still not the greatest. Some days I could work from it, some days I had to turn my phone data on. But if you're lucky enough to unplug for your whole trip, the wifi will be enough to check social media and send messages home! All in all you will have an phenomenal trip if you choose the Almirante!

Our 4th Trip to one of our Favourites!
We love Playa Pesquero. It's in a less populated part of Cuba, southeast of Havana/Varadero. If you're looking for 'swinging nearby nightlife' this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a gorgeous resort, beautiful white sand beach, snorkeling on the premises, and an ice cream shop ... This is for you! We find the staff very friendly; eager to assist, energetic, and helpful. As this was our first trip South since the start of Covid, we weren't sure how we would feel. Covid protocols were in place, staff consistently wore masks, cleanliness was evident everywhere as it always has been, and we felt completely comfortable and sooo happy to be there. Most guests wore masks when indoors, maybe 10% did not, and we all smiled and enjoyed this wonderful place. Playa Pesquero just 'feels right' to us, and we are as comfy as if we were home. We always book a Superior Room. Its layout, size and separate closet/dressing room area is fantastic. The rooms are traditional and a bit dated, but they ooze Cuban style and we love them. The new Adult Premium section is more modern, so if you're looking for updated rooms, you may want to check that out. The buffet and a la carte restaurants were great. We did notice some lack of variety here and there, likely due to imports from Russia being shut down, but we had many lovely meals and were pleased with the fresh fish, grilled pork, pasta station, flaming crepes with dinner, and breakfast is always great. Bacon and smoked salmon were missed this trip. The resort was not full when we visited so we enjoyed being able to get lounge chairs/sun huts any time of the day, and we also enjoyed private cabanas at the pool. Definitely a favourite resort!

not sure we'd go back
We went to Fiesta Americana on Wed February 11th - Wed February 18th in 2019 and had an amazing time and decided to go back the exact same week in 2020. We were disappointed this year. Here were the pros from last year: -weather (only rained one evening for about an hour) -food was excellent (for Cuba's standards) with fresh fruit everyday, a person available to make fresh smoothies, even options such as brie cheese were available -not crowded, don't have to get up early to save a chair by the pool/beach Cons from last year: -broken chairs (almost all of them have broken bases which make very uncomfortable for lounging) -very slow service at the snack bar -ran out of all bread throughout the hotel most days -we were in the main block which was really loud This year's pros: -weather - above 30 everyday, didn't see one drop of rain -got invited to a 'special dinner' one night with 8 others (4 couples) where we were served surf and turf in exchange for a review... -great spot -we were in block 17 which was (in our opinion), second best block. If we could choose, we'd request 16. closest block that is not right in the centre of the action. We don't like being a mile away but don't want to be right in the centre of the action kept up late from disco music, etc. This year's cons: -they brought in over 1,000 local cubans for Valentine's day (Friday) and Saturday. It was awful because that resort cannot handle that many guests. Not enough restaurants, not enough food, not enough toilet paper, not enough currency. Just plain awful. Every food lineup was hours long. They ran out of most of the food at every restaurant (imagine going to an italian restaurant and being offered penne noodles with white sauce and no meat as the ONLY thing left on the menu). Many of the Cubans were rude and would quite literally push you out of the way and butt right in front of you in lines. Huge disaster. -currency was always out at the hotel. they wouldn't break large bills into smaller ones so we tipped a few times and then stopped tipping until they'd break our bills (tried 3 days in a row before they finally had smaller money) -the above mentioned problem trickled into everything else.... toilet paper was always out, food was always out, etc -almost every lounger is broken and uncomfortable. we got up super early to reserve 2 of the 5 good ones around the main pool Still a cheap trip with great weather if you can let go of the anger you face trying to line up for a simple drink or coffee. And if you're ok for a couple days standing in line for an hour before getting seated at a restaurant.
