Had a great time at this lovely resort

We just came back from a 7 day stay at the Gran Muthu Imperial (March 2023) and we had an excellent time. We'd highly recommend this resort

The rooms were well appointed and clean. The resort is only a few years old so everything feels fairly new and fresh. Some beer in the fridge when we arrived.
We noticed that our mini fridge wasn't working but made a quick call to the front desk and they sent a technician to fix it.
The water pressure in the shower was AMAZING, very strong with a detachable handheld option. Lovely small balcony to enjoy the sun from our room.

The gardens are beautiful, and the team of gardeners are super friendly. They make woven hats, baskets, flowers etc. to offer to you, they are well crafted out of plant material only! Also be sure to stop at "El Cubano" coconut stand near building 8 for a fresh coconut from one of the gardeners.

There are lots of spots to get a drink. Many guests bring a larger reuseable cup to use at the bars but they have glasses as well the option to have your drink "to go" in a plastic cup. The swim-up bar at the infinity pool is very popular and lovely. The lobby bar is lively as well, a great place to have a drink while lounging in the gorgeous, spacious lobby. You can get a coffee, tea or cappucino here, and the sugar cane stir sticks they use are a lovely touch (you can chew on them for a hit of sweetness!). The sports bar is a great place to watch a game, play pool, foosball or darts. We were lucky to catch a baseball game on the giant screen, even if Cuba did lose the game. The bartender there, Yadi, is amazing, she makes the best drinks around! Try the peach daquiri, pineapple or mango mojito. Thank you Yadi! The Cigar Bar in the same square is very chill, you can smoke there but you can't actually buy cigars there! Only at the store near reception which isn't always open so plan ahead. It's the only place on the resort that you can smoke inside. The snack bar is a great always-open option in between (or instead of) meals at the buffet.

There are three separate pools: the infinity pool/bar is biggest and most popular. The other 2 (higher up and back) are more chill. Lots of beach chairs available, many of them covered.

All staff we dealt with were super helpful and friendly, no complaints about anyone or any staff interaction. All employees can speak at least a bit of English, some more than others but we didn't have any problems. All tips and gifts we shared with staff were very appreciated.

All in all an excellent experience, and highly recommended. Lots of resources available online (Youtube videos, Facebook etc) for more information to see if it's a good fit for you and your expectations, but we very much enjoyed it. [Details]

Great Time!

Read a few poor reviews but completely disagree! Here's a few quick notes:
-Public washrooms are clean
-Toilet paper always in rooms
-Food is ok (remember that Cuba cannot import too many condiments so bring them)
-Rooms are lovely
-Imperial beach is 50-100 yards away via a nice path. You DO NOT have to walk over the rocky section to get to it.
-I only drink Vodka and lots of it as opposed to what you've read. Gin etc.

Great Place, nice balance of relaxing and parting

Went there during the first week of March. It was a nice and new resort. Nice facilities and a variety of choices. A lof of difference relaxation choices. It is also very close to rainbow and the other resort. Great for a long walk on the beach. Beach is kinda well-hidden, but once you get there, it is very nice and great to enjoy a relaxing time there. [Details]

Amazing experience for solo

First experience for me in Cuba in an all inclusive (I went solo). First of all, my room was perfect, a little smell that went away when the balcony door was open, sea view was amazing and I didn't need the AC at all

The food: I was surprised by the variety of choice, im not a picky eater so I had salad everyday with fresh vegetables grilled meat. the rest was good as well (rice pudding was delicious). The only thing I forgot was to bring condiments, a little dressing would of made it better but that's just for me. the omelette in the morning was super nourishing and snack bar for fries/poutine when I was hungry or to enjoy with a late drink, I had brought snacks and didn't needed them! No bread at the buffet, pasta only the last days I was there, but again I can have that at home so I didn't mind!

The hotel staff was AMAZING! Please do not hesitate to have a good conversation with them, they are very pleasant and always there to entertain and help you if needed. I really appreciated the little dance the staff do when they open the buffet door, it made me smile everytime! The show was also a blast, the dancers are very talented!

If that can help regarding gifts, bring whatever you think would be useful to them, shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, aloes, kids medication, Advil, Tylenol, nylon socks, clothes, kids toys, pretty much anything is useful as they don't have access to these things. As for tips, US dollars is fine but bring big bills in Canadian if you can and tip less often with bigger amount. Avoid the coins, they can't use it. [Details]

Staff at resort is beyond amazing!!! Food would not have been so bad, had it been warm. I do understand that this is Cuba and I had little expectation regarding food. However food was fridge cold, not even room temperature. This resort was hit with a rash of thefts and we were the first to report it. Management was awful and basically accused us of being drunk and misplacing our stolen items.. Wasn't until I made a scene in lobby and others let to check their safes and came back to inform that they also had been robbed did the resort do anything. 7 rooms in total. [Details]

Well worth the money

This was our second visit to this resort. Our first was April 2022.
This resort is hands down best value for your money! We have travelled to Mexico, Dominican, Jamaica previously and although some things may have been better, they were certainly way more expensive. If you go with the right expectations and appreciation for being on vacation, you will love it.
First off the views from everywhere are just amazing! Best views from anywhere I have ever travelled!
The pools are wonderful and were a tad chilly but definitely nice and relaxing and never busy!
The beach is not your typical Cuba beach, but it is certainly beautiful. White sand and the ocean is warm and inviting. We brought water shoes and did find them useful but lots of spots to walk in.
There are shortages as many have noted, however we never went without anything that was essential.
Previously other reviews had talked about bringing certain things like toilet paper. We brought a couple of rolls and used it but not because we had to.
Room was comfy and clean, some things are not up to Canadian standard such as water spots on ceiling etc but bed was comfy, room was some clean and had main necessities. One issue that we had in room was the sink tap was very forceful and splashed, we asked for it to be fixed and they said they did but I don't think it was fixed. We learned to live with it.
The resort itself is very well looked after, it's very nice and everything is within short distance. The pathways are a little dark at night again not a big deal.
The staff are wonderful, landscapers always say good morning. We had great servers, especially in the sports bar and snack bar.
I have a few things that were negative;
We asked 3 times for coffee maker in our room and we never did get one, we did not receive the warmest welcome at front desk when we asked.
We arrived at 11 from airport and had to wait until 4:30 for our room, understanding it takes a while to turn over, but we were told multiple different times and it was never ready.
The towels and bedding are not changed once during the stay, I may bring my own next time.
The food was very repetitive however we never went hungry, everyday fresh eggs in morning and fresh bread at every meal. There are always options. If you are someone who food is very important to you, I would suggest you go somewhere other than Cuba and be willing to pay a lot more.
We go in with the attitude that we are on vacation, there is sun, relaxation, food and drink at fingertips so how can you not be happy!
We are looking to go again in May as the value can not be beat [Details]

Water woes

Check-in was easy. We were not greeted with the same fanfare as other arriving groups. The free WI-FI worked for us while in the lobby, we didn't try it elsewhere on the property. The view was BEAUTIFUL from the lobby and our room. Within hours of receiving our key cards we had to have the room door lock serviced (I assume there is a lot of corrosion due to the oceanside location) but maintenance personnel corrected the issue within minutes. The key cards had to be changed out twice for some unknown reason during our 7 day stay. A water main broke on day three and left the hotel rooms and lobby without consistent water which remained an issue through the remainder of our vacation. My hat goes off to the housekeeping staff for their diligence in hauling pool water to keep the lobby toilets clean; therefore 5 butterflies! [Details]

Wonderful vacation!
This was our second time at Gran Muthu (first was October 2019). The main reason for our return visit was because we had a great experience the first time. AND they rewarded us for being returning guests by having a lovely private luncheon with other loyalty guests!
Staff are sweet and friendly and always smiling. Yordanis and the rest of the crew made us feel very welcome. The housekeeping in our building was amazing, our room was always clean and restocked plus she would fold our towels into cute animals.
As for the food...we had no complaints. It's Cuba people, they aren't going to have all the comforts of home, but I can say we never went hungry - there was always something great to eat.
There is technically no beach in behind, but just a few minute walk and there is a nice beach where you can spend the day.
But we preferred the Infinity Pool with swim-up bar, entertainment and Churros! [Details]

Would Definitely Return

Hubby & I had a lovely 7 day stay earlier this month.
We have been to Cuba a handful of times in the past, but it has been many years. It was our first time at this resort. We are very happy that we decided to visit this country again and especially glad that we picked the Gran Muthu Imperial for our stay.
We got in touch with Yordanis at the resort before our arrival. His official title is “community association manager”, which means he really takes care of anything you might need help with. Prior to our vacation he helped us arrange for a taxi to the hotel as I had no idea how to do that myself. When we arrived in Cuba, the driver was there waiting for us, holding a sign with our names on it. Easy, breezy!
Yordanis let us know about what buildings would be best for what we were looking for and put in the special requests for us. After we arrived, he was sure to check up on us many times during our stay, in person and via FB messenger, making sure we were happy with everything. He also let me know how to book our a al carte dinner reservations. I was really glad to be able to meet him in person. Yordanis is a great asset to the hotel. I truly believe he cares about all the guests and does everything he can to ensure everyone is loving their vacation.

The resort is fairly close to the airport. We did take the taxi (Thank you Yordanis!) , which makes it even quicker and easier to get to and from the resort. The drive took less than 45 minutes. The cost was $60. For us, totally worth it to not be stuck on a bus, and to get that quick and convenient transfer from the airport.
The hotel is still quite new. Everything is clean and beautiful. We booked an ocean view room and received one in building 7. We did not get direct sun in the morning on our balcony as it's blocked by the other buildings, but the view of the ocean was amazing. We were facing the ocean directly. Absolutely gorgeous. This time of year, it gets a little cooler in the evenings which we loved as we were able to sleep with the balcony door open listening to the waves and enjoying a nice breeze, instead of blasting the air conditioner.
The room itself is basic, but has everything we need. Nice layout, big comfy king size bed, shower worked fantastic, and again, everything was clean. There is a TV in the room, but we never turn on a television on vacation, so no idea what kind of programming might be available. Our housekeeping staff did a fantastic job with our room every day.
Our mini bar was restocked most days. I did leave a little note asking for extra water and we never had any issues running out.
We spent most of our days laying around by the “middle” pool with all the activities. I love that we can be by the pool and still have that amazing view of the ocean. Great layout of the resort. The gardeners work hard to keep everything looking beautiful. Very friendly people. Every morning we would get greeted by the garden crew with a warm “hola” and big smiles.
We found the food at the resort perfectly suitable. Being to Cuba few times in previous years, we understand that the food and drink choices are different than what one might be used to at home or other countries. But to me that does not mean that it's not good. We enjoyed all the dinners we had. The chicken soup at all the a la carte restaurants was fantastic! My husband really liked the pork chops at dinner, and I was happy with the chicken choices. One of the restaurants had a fried cheese appetizer, delicious!!

For lunch we visited the 24h snack bar every day. We are not buffet people, and prefer the small variety at a sit-down restaurant, so for us this was perfect. We tried everything on the menu, and it was all good. Again, don't expect a Michelin star restaurant, it's the 24h snack bar. The French fries were awesome. Even the gravy for their poutine was quite tasty. The staff that work at the snack bar made our stay over the top amazing. They are all super friendly and helpful. During the day the great team of Yuliett, Kevin, Alejandro, and Esquivel were there to look after us and they are all great! From Spanish coffee and mojitos, tasty lunch snacks and warm conversations, these guys really went above all expectations.
We also made a habit of stopping by the 24h bar for drinks before dinner and most nights after dinner. After all, they are open 24h / day. [Details]

Relaxing place!

Gran Muthu Imperial Cayo Guillermo (adults only) is a luxurious resort located on the stunning island of Cayo Guillermo in Cuba. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, with modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs, free internet and comfortable bedding. The staff (Elvis, Alejandro, Kevin, Coco, Yordanis, Pochy, Esquivel, Lazaro and many more! ) is extremely friendly and helpful, providing guests with a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.

One of the standout features of the resort is its beautiful beachfront location, with white sand and crystal-clear water perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. The only thing is that there are lots of rocks in the water. You have to go at the Gran Muthu Cayo Guillermo (just next to the Imperial) or you take the taxi to go to Playa Pilar for only 5$usd if you want the perfect beach [Details]

Our first Cuba stay

This being our first trip to Cuba, we did lots of research. We also wanted a quieter experience and that's why we chose imperial. The resort is small and quaint and most buildings have a ocean view with the exception of those closest to the main building. Only 2 a la carte restaurants were working, rotating Cuban, international and Mediterranean. Unfortunately we did not get to go to the Mediterranean. The buffet was as expected. Lots of the same varieties as you'd expect. Bring condiments if you prefer. The beach to the left is fantastic and and being 5 minutes away from playa Pilar is a added bonus. [Details]

Our last Cuba trip caused us to set our expectations low for this one. We were pleasantly surprised.

Let's get the MINOR not so good out of the way. No beach right in front of the hotel. No big deal, walk to the beach bar, turn left, walk a couple of hundred metres and there's soft sand. Food. Always subjective and expectations have to be managed in Cuba - there's still a crushing embargo and supply chain issues. There is a dearth of fresh veggies, but you won't get scurvey. Some days there are beef burgers at the snack bar, some days there are none. Booze: one bar might have vodka, the other bar might not. Same with tonic. If you like a specific booze, eg tequila, bring your own. Wifi can be a bit buggy but it's FREE.

Now the good: The resort and rooms are in excellent condition, the pools are clean and gorgeous and that infinity pool overlooking the ocean is second to none. Beach? Who cares? Sip on your drink, in a pool, while staring out at the azure and aquamarine water. Bonus: no sand in your shorts.

Staff: Second to none. Friendly and will do their best to keep your trip on track and keep you happy. Bartenders are run off their feet, but keep up well.

Food and Beverages: We were surprised that they had tomato juice at the pool bar, a Bloody Mary was a nice change from rum and fruity drinks. Slushy machines are there... peach slush and rum.. delicious.

The buffet can get a bit repetitive, but if you're there for a week, so what? Fresh to order pizza, pasta. Grilling stations for pork, chicken, beef, fish. Hot holds had beef, pork, chicken and fish most nights. Had some nice ribs 3x during the week. There are always a few basic vegetables in the hot holds. Nice selection of cheese and cold cuts. Head over to the fresh bread, grab a half sub bun and go to town on the cold cuts and cheese.

The nicest beach you'll ever see, Playa Pilar is just down the road. Best to make a day of it and take a package: Beach chairs, catamaran ride, lobster lunch. Worth it. Trying to do it on your own, you'll get clipped on beach chair rental, food and beverage.

All staff we crossed paths with were polite, friendly and did their best.

I love my stay at the Gran Muthu Imperial. This was my first time at an adults-only resort, and I recommend it, especially if you want to relax. If you are looking for lots of entertainment, this is not the place. There are some at the pools and in the lobby at night. The nightly shows start late (9:30 pm), so I would have preferred they start earlier.
The staff was truly very nice and welcoming. We had the best waiter at the Buffet (Ernesto). The view from the pools (especially the infinity pool) was amazing. Had an ocean view from my room and it was great. The food well, they do their best with what they can get and I'm fine with that. I'm not a picky eater. If you are coming to Cuba with high expectations, then don't bother. However, the Cuban people and the beaches are worth it. The ham and cheese sandwiches at the Snack Bar were very good. Needless to say that is what we had for most of our lunches. The omelets, waffles and pancakes at the buffet for breakfast were great. Not much to do around the resort although there is a small market at the resort next to ours (Gran Muth Cayo Guillermo – family resort) and there is also a bus that takes you to the market in Cayo Coco. Playa Pilar was beautiful. The beach at the resort is not that bad. I have read some negative comments, but I thought it was fine. You can access it to the left of building 5. It is rocky at first so you need some water shoes and if you keep walking you are good. We did 2 catamaran excursions: the day one and the sunset one. Simply AMAZING! Best catamaran runs I have done in all my travels so far. We got the same boat for both excursions, the Kon Tiki. That crew was so much fun. The sunset from the evening run was beautiful. All in all, this was a great stay. The most relaxing vacation I have had to date. I do recommend this resort. The staff work hard to keep it nice and clean. [Details]

Tout d'abord, quel bel hôtel, propre, vue imprenable sur la mer et le jardin, avec ses trois piscines, dont une à débordement, face à l'océan…

On y trouve tous les services, plusieurs bars, (plage, centre sportif, piscine x2, lobby, snack, cigar room)... Restaurant à la carte, buffet copieux où vous aurez la tortilla de votre choix, gaufres maison, saucisses, beaucoup de fromage et même du bacon, les serveurs et les cuisiniers sont tous sympathiques, attentifs et amusants…

Les jardiniers sont des ouvriers très gentils, osez leur parler, ça les rend heureux...

Amazing experience!! The resort is impeccable. Very clean. Lots of hot water for showers. The staff are so attentive, incredible hospitality. Yordanis is a great host who will help you with all of your needs and Elvis will get you around whenever you need. Plenty of food options and lots of it. Check out the lobster Shack for an amazing seafood meal (reservation required) Pilar beach is down the road and is a must!

We went to this hotel from December 04th to December 11th and it was absolutely wonderful.

The rooms were clean, spacious and very comfortable. The food was great and the staff is absolutely amazing. Thank you to Carlos, Jorge, Yadianis, Laidel and all the staff for this amazing stay. Thank you Yordanis for doing a little something special for my friends birthday.

The rooms are spacious. I have never slept that great at a hotel. The staff is absolutely amazing and quick. We had a problem with the shower the first day and when we asked nicely, the problem got fixed right away. The food is great and flavorful.
The weak points
Unfortunately, the beach is a little rough so make sure to bring water shoes. You can access the beach at the hotel next door. But I would still recommand water shoes since I cut myself in the ocean. But that can happen on any beach.

Being our third time at this resort the staff, once again did not disappoint. We were welcomed back with open arms (literally) and for the whole week we enjoyed seeing the hard working staff of this resort, it is so wonderful to see how dedicated and humble these people are, it truly makes us want to stay longer each and every time we visit. I stayed at the Grand Muthu Imperial last month. This resort is gorgeous very easy to get around. The buffet had a good selection and the food was tasty. They made amazing ice coffee at the lobby bar and I discovered melon daiquiri at the sports bar. We stayed in building one the room was beautiful spacious very clean. They had Robes and slippers in the room (we didn't use them but I thought it was a nice touch). There was a tub and a separate shower. The view from our room was stunning. There are 3 pools, but while we were there they needed cleaned. I thought the entertainment was too loud in the morning, I learned to wear earplugs while trying to relax by the pool. One of the best resort I have visited till now. Papito at check in were really helpful and friendly. Great staff who knew how to serve the customer such as Maury at the buffet, Giosvanni at the Cigar Bar, Yadianis at the Sports Bar, Manuel the gardener and Nellie our Chamber maid, their service was excellent, very friendly. Our room was well equipped, beautifully designed and brand new. From the balcony, we could view the sea and pool, feel the cool breeze. The location of our room was absolutely perfect. As soon as you come out of our building, we can access all the amenities with a short walk to the beach, pools, restaurants and bars. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relieve to walk in such a quiet and peaceful environment.

Our stay at the hotel was absolutely perfect! The food for me was good, just enough since it's a low season and you will never go hungry. The Gran Muthu Imperial's Cuban day is by far my favourite from all the resorts I've been. Not to forget the Gran Muthu Imperial's burger is top notch and you have to try it. One of perks was be able to connect with our loved ones back home, their wifi is available throughout the resort specially in our room.

Yordanis, our main man! He made our stay more comfortable and enjoyable. He accompanied us to the Cigar Bar and we had a great time together. He says hi and chatted with us every time we see him and made sure we are good. All respect for him who does a great job at Gran Muthu Imperial with excellent hospitality.

There are 5 in our group and we all agree that we will come back again and again in this resort. I highly recommend Gran Muthu Imperial. [Details]
