Disappointing!!!
First off, this was our second time to this resort. We initially travelled there just before the pandemic took over and we absolutely loved everything about this resort and location... we liked it so much that we booked another trip here almost immediately. As much as I still enjoyed my time here, I can't believe how downhill this location went in just a year. The location and beaches are just beautiful and if you are willing to hike along the coast you can find some amazing places to swim, be alone and snorkel. The rooms were clean, the grounds were clean and just like last time the hotel staff were all very friendly. We arrived on a Monday and were all smiles for the first few days... at least until the weekend came. On the weekends they allow locals to come to the resort and let me tell you... be prepared to wait. There were suddenly lines for everything, you couldn't get near the only swim up bar; half the time the food you wanted was completely out because they would absolutely load their plates. They were unbelievably loud in their room until all hours of the night and regardless of calling the front desk, no one cared! The pools were just packed, the beaches were full of cars and tents from locals and it grew frustrating very quickly. The food was the exact same every single day and breakfast was just dinner re-served... runny gross eggs, never saw bacon, never saw breakfast potatoes... just loads of fajitas, onion rings, baked potatoes and pasta. Dinner was basically just a freshly served version of breakfast but at least it wasn't stale and tasteless. The local vendors near the beachfront are annoying BUT they are not pushy and will leave you alone when you say "no" which I was fine with. A few were rude when they saw you doing something (jet skis for example) and would mock you for not using their equipment at their own prices... one even followed me telling me how his family will not eat now because of us. Is this place nice? Yes.. would I recommend it? Yes and no. This is simply MY opinion and others may have no issues with the way things are there. I will gladly go back to Costa Rica but not to this place.

Truly a star treatment vacation
The hotel was excellent from the time we arrived to when we left. We opted for Star Class which I would recommend if an option for you.Our Agent William greeted us upon arrival and made sure we had a tour before settling into our rooms so we had a good lay of the land. The resort did not disappoint. Staff are hospitable, accommodating, engaging and friendly. The resort itself is relatively small which appealed to us. Kids Club was great and enjoyed by our kids during our stay, the staff were very personable and engaging with the children all ages. Pools are nice especially the cabanas. I would recommend to book 1 day with a full service cabana. There is lots to do although if you are looking for a beach this resort would not be able to deliver. Lovely and different the sand is black which makes it hot, however PH does have a lighter sand area created especially for their guests if some sand s what you want. There is as much or as little to do while staying at PH. Any excursions desired can be coordinated by their very helpful professionals we did a couple of days of zip lining and went out snorkeling. Most destinations do require a bit of a drive from the resort. As a star class member they provided us with special dinner events and checked in on every need. Entertainment was provided every night and the variety was sure to please many different interest. The show are very professional and definitely entertaining. The PH entertainment group/dancer were exceptional. We also visited the Doctor on the resort which was a good experience. The Doctor was knowledgeable and courteous and responsive. There really is not anything we could say disappointed us. If I had to find something constructive to note I would say that there seems to be some inside ties among the staff at the Cabana/Guest services as we did have our reservation apparently bumped from the cabana space we originally had reserved. The word among the guests are that it may be who you know that gets you the better cabana. However this is frivolous all of the spaces are lovely so in the end all worked out just fine. Truly paradise. I would recommend more the a 12 week stay with travel day to and from it gives you 5 days to really explore and relax. 10 days would be perfect. Thank you PH and William for the fantastic experience a vacation we will always remember.

Hotel is very poorly up-kept - staff are lovely
This hotel is operating at about 50% or less than what they are offering. Several major health violations. The pool is a major health and safety concern - water is not above the jets or being filtered by the pump or skimmers (only time you do this is when you are closing your pool - but this pool had covers over the jets and black gunk in the skimmers - ie they have not been used for a long time)- only thing circulating the pool is the waterfall, only way they have to clean this pool is using a skimmer bag to remove leaves ( I have a pool this is not ok). This pool should be closed until they can properly fill it and filter it using the pump and skimmers - pool staff sprinkled chlorine in the pool while people were swimming and we only saw them using a sump pump to vacuum it - but that is not filtering! In a commercial pool - this is seriously hazardous - not just because the water isn't being filtered - but also because they are not taking accurate measurements to determine what chemicals are needed. We also got serious ill (we still are sick) from the food - or improper food care - we often had fruit in the am - that tasted like onions or garlic - so food safety isn't being adhered to either. We were not the only guests that got sick - several others were as well. Also this hotel only had about 12 guests max at any time and only one resto was open (some of the food seemed fine - but after we got sick - we weren't really interested in the food), and only some of the rooms are available - the rest have doors open without locks and no furniture (back in family villas). Our room was not what we paid for (the photos are really of one room - everything else is older) but i admit -i really don't normally care about the room - i don't expect to spend my time there - but it was very old, dated and there was one room next to us that had been fancied up for the photos. The staff were very nice, they tried very hard - but there is no management presence here and nothing is being done to repair anything - real lack of any kind of management leadership at all - I think this hotel is in transition - the owners are not here and don't seem to care about how bad it is - or they are just waiting for someone to buy it - all of my complaints are really about the owners and really Nolitours (Air Transat) and iTravel2000 - should not offer this hotel again until they can guarantee there are no health violations and the pool is fixed. WIFI worked fine for us (no charge).
