Our first time in riviera maya/ COBA

it is a mega resort ,for the reason that there is 3 hotels in the complex my hubby and i stayed at the coba, all 3 resorts are beautiful, very clean one of the best resorts that we have ever been, you will not be bored for the fact that there is so much to do,you have access to all 3 resort, danzing, partying, quiet spots, drinking kids club, entertainment at the beach,at main pool, there is something for everyone, wifi at main lobby only,it is a beautiful place to be,in fact we will be planning to go next year we stayed at the royal golden section,it was worth the extra little bit that we payed.

 Don't buy

Don't waste your money on the "club" option unless you are positive the services will be available. The golden club club house was closed, the extra restaurants were not available as well. Anytime we tried to have something done that the " club" premiere reception, we were told we had to go to the main desk. golden club is a joke.

 Gran Bahia Principe Coba Review

I have to say from the moment I checked in to the moment I checked out I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this resort. Was probably the best vacation I have had in a long time. The service was impecable and big regards to the hotel manager Felix for booking all our a le cartes.

 Good quality for price paid/Not a 5*

Pretty good overall with the exception of a super musty smelling room (upon returning home even had to launder the unworn clothing due to extreme musty smell on them) and the unfortunate case of food poisoning. Grounds were beautiful and staff were exceptionally friendly.

 Fantastic Holiday

We went for 12 days it was a fantasic resort, staff was excelent, food was also fantasitic and lots of it. They closed our Golden Lobby while we were there but they moved us to another one a little further away, so they covered all our extra room charges for the inconvience. Left tip for our housekeeper of 20 pesos a day and our room always had towel art and flowers on the bed and in the bathroom. The resort was amazingly spotless. All and All it was a great holiday I would definetly recommend it to anyone.

Another great stay in mexico but not Coba

We love this resort 2nd time back. Stayed at Akumal the first time. Coba is great for young party people, if you want class and a nice quite evening stay at Akumal or Tulum. Don't book golf they forget to pick you up to take you the golf course and then when you complain they offer you a semi-free round that you still have to pay club rental on and they forget to pick you up again. When we got to the golf club we were told the club and hotel are not affiliated and the golf club didn't know about the free round of golf.

 Gran Bahia Principe Coba

Our group travelled to Mexico for a wedding. This trio of hotels in the same area was great. The tram system was fabulous, especially for those who had difficulty walking long distances.

 April holiday

This was our first trip to Mexico and was very nice. The resort is big, very clean, nice and lobby is beautiful. Our room was very clean. We left a small tip daily for our cleaner and always had very cute towel art on the bed.The food in the buffets were good,we didn't have problem to choose. The Coba beach was very nice. We were at the beach before 10am almost every day and we didn't have problem find a chair and shade. We didn't have problem to walk around the resort and to the beach, sometimes we used shuttle bus.
Overall our experience at the Bahia Principe Coba was very positive and i would recommend this hotel to anyone.

 Very positive experience

we found the staff overall to be very helpfull, friendly, courteous and fun to interact with. They were very happy, smiling and enjoyed joking with. The facilities were excellent along with the transportation around the three resorts and beaches etc. The premiere staff selling the vacation club memberships were also respectfull when we said we were not interested and were not pushy as was not our bag. We used the Colectivo (public transit)system asw well as taxi,s which were right outside the resort. The shops on resort were also very good to pick up things we wanted at a reasonable price. We felt very safe and relaxed at this resort and in this area.

 Gran Bahia Principe Coba

This was our first trip to Mexico and we really enjoyed it and would return. We stayed at a Bahia Principe in Punta Cana a few years ago. The staff here were very friendly and accomodating, no complaints. The resort is quite big but does not take long to get anywhere and you can also hop on a trolley if you don't feel like walking.

Gran Bahis Coba - To big

The Hotel was, for us, to big and way to far from the beach. The facilities themselves were excellent. If a person likes big and are not to worried about the beach then this would be the place to go. The staff are very helpfull and friendly. We will go to another Bahia but one that is smaller. Overall a great holiday resort.

 Gran Bahia Principe Coba

This was the second time we stayed at Coba. No updates in five years. Had to fight daily for a lounge either at the pools of at the beach. Menu unchanged. May consider Akumul or Tulum next time but unsure of the rooms. Overall - as expected.

 .

 Excellent Place for Family Vacation

Very clean resort. Staff at the Golden Royal was very helpful, they printed out the boarding passes for us when asked. Foods were good and have quite many varieties to select from. Expect slow services at a la cart restaurants. Trolleys ran quite frequently around the resort and Coba beach, they also run between the resorts (Coba, Akumal, Tulum) as well, so we can enjoy different restaurants across the resorts which is really nice. Coba beach is beautiful and safe for the kids, staff did a great effort in cleaning the seaweeds. Buffet at Coba is crowded, so don't expect good service. Exchanging of beach towels is always issue, there's only 1 pool in the resort that do the exchange, the main pool always runs out of towels. Entertainment is average, nothing special. We find the Mexican Fiesta is a rip off for guess, it cost $15 USD/adult & half price for childen. This meant to entertain guests from the resorts only, not sure why charging the guests extra for it. Transfer from airport to resort is a nightmare, the transportation arrangement is very poor, they keep asking us to move from one bus to another but wouldn't let us on because there's no more seat. They end up calling a cab to take my family to the resort after I screamed at them. Air Transat rep at the hotel wasn't helpful however, we booked the tour for 4 to Chichen Itza, the voucher shows only 3 persons, and after 1 hour wait at the lobby for the tour, our names were not on the tour list and they told us they never receive any booking with our name on it. We have to come back to Air Transat desk and ask for a refund. We rented the car and drive ourselves to Chichen Itza the next day, the cost is half of the tour cost. Also, we took a cab from hotel to Tulum, it again saved us half of the cost instead of taking the tour. Don't forget to visit Playa De Carmen after 4pm, there're lots to shop on 5th Avenue. Overall, we very much enjoyed our time at Coba resort. We will definitely go back again.

 Gran Bahia Principe Coba

I truly enjoy the Bahia Coba, we have been here 4 times, guess that says it all.(the 2 hour ride from the airport is worth it) There is a lot of walking, but at least it burns all those extra calories we ATE and DRANK!!!!! Your holiday is what you make of it. Can't wait to go back.

 Fantastic week!

Went with my sister as a break from the kids and the husbands. This hotel has so many options because of its size. It you like quiet you can find it and if you want fun and entertainment you can find it. There is always some type of entertainment going on somewhere.

The staff worked really hard. They gave great sevice even when people were rude or didn't tip. They were always very plesant.

The two things that I noticed could be better were the beach, because the edge of the water is on a steep angle it makes it difficult to walk along it and I noticed the rooms were getting a little dated and some things were starting to show their age. On the bright side every thing was really clean!

 Nice, but wouldnt go back!

The establishment itself is impressive, very nicely kept, beautiful landscaping but the over all size of the complex is overwhelming and inconvenient. If you dont mind walking, walking and more walking to get to the lobby or to where the cart (if they come) picks you up(if they have room or are going to where u need to go). If you need to be at a certain lobby (of which there are many) to be picked up for a day trip or tour be sure to leave plenty of time to get to your pick up point! The trolly carts didnt come around that often and the ones that did never seemed to be going where we were. The beach is gorgeous but far away for anyone staying at the Coba, and even though they have signs saying NO RESERVING THE BEACH CHAIRS, by the time you got to the beach or the pool most of the chairs were taking by towels or books being layed across them, also I wish I had known the beach was topless, it was a little akward at first. Not a relaxing vacation destination. Air conditioning wasnt great in the rooms , the beds were even damp from the humidity. The staff didnt speak English very well at all, and asking questions was difficult when you were trying to enquire about something.

 Great place to stay

An all-round great place to stay. Get a good overall impression from the other reviews here - comments about hard beds and musty odours in the rooms have some truth to them, but are far outweighed by overall great service, location, upkeep of resort, etc.
-We can only really add two complaints. 1) We paid extra for the "Royal Golden" suite, and really don't know what difference it made. It offers free internet use, but you can totally get it anyway. The dedicated lobby closes at night, so if you have any trouble when you're most likely to be in your room, you still have to deal with the main lobby, which quite honestly didn't seem very thrilled to have to help any guests at all. 2) The in-room fridge had beer as the only alcohol. No wine, no liquor, no TEQUILA, nothing. Just beer. Not everybody drinks beer.
All griping aside though, the place is finely manicured, the shuttle services (it's HUGE) are great, there are more places on resort to buy souvenirs than we'd ever seen before, there's decent late-night entertainment, and the list goes on and on. We'd definitely go back!

Spring family vacation at Bahia Coba!

Overall, a great holiday! We were traveling with our 4 yr old daughter and my parents and really enjoyed the resort. Beautiful setting, immaculate grounds, amazing and hard working staff. We were treated extremely well and felt relaxed and at home.
The food was good, but not great in my opinion. Meats at the buffet were dry but there were plenty of other selections and I loved the pasta bar and stir fry options. LOVED my daily cappuccino!. Only 3 chances for a la carte wasn't enough, as I was tired of buffet the other days.
Terrific snorkelling right off the beach! We brought our own equipment and snorkelled almost daily. Saw tons of fish, squid, etc. Really wonderful.
Hope to do another vacation like this next year!

 *****

the only beef that i have was that we forgot to bring a watch. no clocks anywhere on the resort except in your room. if you have dinner reservations or booked an excersion to go to, you have to bug the service desk people or find someone wearing a watch. grounds were spotless and the hotel spotless except for the flattened geico on the wall outside by balcony which was never scraped off. it was their the whole time . staff was excellent but only front line people could speak enough english to understand you. all were very friendly and helpful. i dont think we could have picked a better hotel. it will be hard to beat this one

 Great times

We really enjoyed the hotel and all it's facilities. We loved the fact you could use the pools and restaurants at the other resorts.
When in the room it is really quiet, but for buildings close to lobby Coba, it is noisy at night when you are on your balcony. The staff was great and they expect a tip when you eat at the sit down restaurants.

 Pretty good

This hotel is very nice. It is kept immaculate and the staff will go above and beyond to keep you happy. I wouldn't stay here again unless it was a great deal ONLY because I personally prefer smaller places.

The a la cartes are GREAT (esp the Japanese). The main buffet at Coba was great for breakfast (mmm churros) but I found dinner and lunch very repetitive and boring. The food wasn't bad, but I just didn't think it wasn't as good as other resorts I've been to in the area. That being said, the guacamole was always good and there was always something I would find to eat. The 24 hour snack bar was SO GOOD. The roasted chicken was great, as were the made to order pizzas.

The beach was lovely and the water was warm. We hung out in the pool area as well and that was great.

Best bar was the swim up at Coba's fun pool but the best bartender was Ruben in the Royal Golden lobby.

As for getting the Golden upgrade, we only got it because when we were booking it was actually cheaper than just the regular suites. Don't get it unless you get it at a cheaper price. It promises private Transat rep (not true, they helped anyone regardless of the bracelet, especially if they spoke french), 4 a la cartes, a prime location for room and free internet. All that stuff was great but if I paid more for it I wouldn't have been impressed as they now have the Premier (guests that come all the time) which is even better and they actually get the closer rooms. Anyway, it was fine because we didn't pay more, but had we paid more it wouldn't have been worth it.

My only real complaint had NOTHING to do with the resort, but to do with the Air Transat reps. They were nice enough people but they told us "they would tell us the honest truth about excursions" and the safest way to buy was through them because they would give us all the tips. Our group booked Coco Bongo on the saturday night. We knew it would be busy, but we thought it would be more like "Toronto on a saturday night", busy where you can still move, get to the bar, etc. Well it wasn't, we could NOT move, period. We were all crammed in and unable to move to get anywhere other than the washroom and that was only because we were near the exit/washroom area. We payed $70 and that was meant to include open bar, but it was impossible to get near a bar. We left after 30 minutes and took a cab back. I guess we could have paid $140 for VIP (note, other agencies carried this package much cheaper, we found out later), but even the VIP looked like they couldn't move. When we brought this up to the Air Transat rep, and just asked why we weren't told that it would be so packed we wouldn't be able to move, she got extremely defensive. The girl we spoke to said if we had booked with her and not her colleague she would have told us not to go Tuesday, Friday or Saturday. We told her she was sitting beside our rep at the time and she said she must have been busy or she would have told us. She wasn't busy, she was texting. Regardless, we weren't demanding anything, we were just suggesting they inform their customers or remove the $70 option as it is not worth it at all. Thinking back, we should have figured Saturday night in March would be a mad house, but I just never thought it would be so bad that we couldn't even move.

Anyway, hate to complain because overall it was INCREDIBLE. We did do another excursion, Ek Balam, and that was great, 5th avenue for some shopping and a bite to eat.

Mexico is a great country with great people, don't hesitate to book this resort if you find a good deal. You won't be disappointed.
