It's rare these days that you buy something and it looks just like the advertising but during our stay we kept commenting how everything lined up exactly with how it was advertised. Because of this our vacation matched or exceeded our expectations in pretty much every way and we loved this hotel.

We were very impressed with this resort. Overall a great spot for a vacation, never ending pools, an over abundance of restaurants & bars, staff are all excellent, snorkling off the peer, shops on site, Definitely a place we will be returning to.

Ayant l'expérience de plusieurs Barcelo, le Colonial à Riviera Maya est le plus intéressant. Le forfait était idéal. La qualité de la nourriture aux différents restaurants et le service attentionné du personnel. Très bien situé: la plage est longue et belle. Quantité de transat à toutes heures de la journée. Animation variée. Destination recommandée pour de belles vacances assurées.

The best two weeks holidays in a long time.

arriver a 3.h00 du matin,aucun service .un dessin sur un plan ,et bonne nuit .un site immence monte 3 etages a pied .chercher longtemps pour enfin trouvé la chambre .forte odeur de cigarette et une chaleur etouffante ,ca commence mal.(chambre non fumeur ).Restaurant a la carte 5 dans notre forfait ,impossible d en reserver plus de 2 tout les soir sont complet.meilleur chance la prochaine fois.acces internet a prix d amie 12.00 us par jour.personel avec mauvaise humeur chronique .buffet de qualite acceptable pour un 4 1/2 sans plus ,bouffe souvent froide et vin maison inbuvable (pour vous vendre du vin en bouteille )

Belle semaine de vacance dans un 4.5 étoiles. L'an dernier j'étais au Royal Princess (5 étoiles) et je vous dirais que la qualité était la même.

Hotel was beautiful...The grounds are lush and well cared for. The rooms are nice and clean, the pools are humungus, the beach is beautiful.. the only disappointment was there was quite a bit of rocks in the water so you have to be careful. The food at the buffets we pretty good a lot of variety even for picky eaters. We ate at 2 al a cartes the Italian and the Japanese. Loved them both. The staff are excellent and friendly. I had mentioned to the hotel in an e-mail before we left that it was our birthdays while we were there and they delivered a birthday cake to our room on my birthday that was a nice touch. Overall It was a great place. For the size of the resort which is grand and fully booked, never felt crowded. Oh and the tequila isn't bad either.

All of our experiences with visiting this hotel have been wonderful. Myself and my husband as well as our two teens have been vacationing here for the last three years. The ocean is always beautiful and the beach is extremely long and lovely to walk along. The property is always well maintained and clean. There is a wide variety of mexican style foods at the restauraunt but there are also a few americanized foods which are pretty good. The Al-a Carte dinners are preferred by our family over the buffet. We have visited this hotel in both March and Feburary and find that the weather is very hot and out of the three times that we have visited it has only rained once for half a day. When ever we return home from our vacation at Barcelo we feel completely relaxed and can not wait to return again.

This hotel was great!!! The food was amazing, it's very clean and the staff is very friendly. I would recommend it to everyone!

This was our fourth year in a row to the Barcelo Colonial. I did find that they were not as sharp as usual. There were no washclothes available. We had to complain 3 times to get our safe fixed and our fridge never did work properly. We are used to top quality services at Barcelo, so did notice a difference. They also seemed to be short staffed in the restaurants. We had 2 of our reservations at 10:00 pm because they were booked for that. At least half of the tables were empty even at the earlier sittings, so it wasn't seating that caused them to be full.

This was our second time staying at the Barcelo Maya. Last time we stayed at the Tropical and this time at the Colonial. The rooms are exactly the same with the same ammenities. The only difference for us was at the Colonial this time we booked through Air Transat and got 5 a la cartes as opposed the the 3 we got a the Tropical for more money last time! Needless to say we were pleased.

Rooms were spacious and very clean. Actually everything here was clean. The grounds were immaculate.

Beach was beautiful and lots of space. There were lots of chairs available at the beach or pool if you were there at a reasonable hour (9:30ish). The snorkelling right off the beach at this resort is incredible, which is why we chose to come back a second time. Really, as good as anything we saw when we went to Xel-Ha. The boys saw huge turtles and sting-rays along with every type of fish imaginable.

Food was fantastic with lots of variety. The same as you would expect at any resort. A la carte dinners were terrific and we especially enjoyed the Japanese restaurant.

The workers went above and beyond to make our trip fabulous. The only time we seemed to wait was at the bars close to the pool and beach which get quite crowded during the day.

Overall my husband and I and the two friends we went with had a fabulous time at Barcelo Maya - Tropical

Rooms, food , pools, beach ,were very clean. Lots of chairs around pools and beach always found a good spot.

Loved everything about this hotel. No complaints. Size of hotel is great if travelling with children, pool and beach was close to your room no matter where your room was located. Had a massage on the beach, price was very reasonable. Never had trouble finding chairs at the pool or beach and were were a group of 7 people. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Pour notre troisième fois à ce club ce fut encore une semaine de rêve. Un endroit propre, de qualité, de beaux jardins et un service impeccable. Plein de chaises sur la plage, pas besoin de se lever tôt pour aller réserver des chaises et de l'ombre disponible en tout temps grâce aux superbes palmiers sur la plage. Notez qu'il y a quelques roches sur la plage et dans l'eau...faut faire attention surtout lorsqu'il y a des vagues....mais il y a plein de place avec du beau sable blanc pour se baigner.... Notre chambre était à moins de 5 minutes de marche des piscines et de la plage, on pouvais s'y rendre pieds nus!!!!!! La bouffe était excellente,Surtout les cappuccinos!!!!! 5 repas à la carte durant la semaine. Difficile de réserver les repas à de belles heures en début de voyage mais le jour-même en fin d'après-midi on pouvais aller modifier sans roblème l'heure de notre réservation. Les mexicains qui y travaillent sont souriants et sympathiques...on est vraiment traités aux petits oignons. Encore une fois nous avons étés très satisfaits de notre séjour, nous le recommandons à tous!!!!!!

Overall our experience was quite a pleasant one. The rooms are just okay and the beds are very uncomfortable. We tried to book the first morning we were there for the ala carte restaurants(guaranteed 5 meals from the write up) and were barely able to obtain 1 with a bit of insistence on our part. The grounds and common areas are impeccable and quite lovely. Easy to get turned around as it is a huge resort with 13 buildings of just rooms and not very well marked outside. Food was typical 3-4 star Mexico - tired of it after 4 days. Good salad bar and great cappuccinos! Staff are all very friendly and accommodating.

I have been there many times before. For me it is paradise. The grounds, the pools, the beaches.

We enjoyed our stay here during christmas week 2011. The resort is gorgeous, well-maintained, clean, safe, with good food, great beach and pools. There are multiple activities for kids all ages, and adults alike. No complaints at all other than the usual minor ones - slow check-in and restaurant booking.

Check in and check out terrible experience,not enough staff.The rest of the vacation was excellent.Rooms very clean,food very good and beach was great for those long walks after lunch.Nice suprise not having to wake early to reserve sun loungers by the pool as there were plenty.

I found the hotel and the grounds beautiful. The staff were great as was the food. Being a frequent traveller to the Barcelo chain on the mayan riviera i found the beach best at barcelo maya beach resort so we spent our beach time there. However, the reason i booked here was because of the definition of Prestige class stated in the air transat brochure. There was nothing available as stated in the brochure - no fruit basket, no greeting upon arrival and none of the other things stated. If we wanted those thiings the hotel wanted us to pay an additional $90.00 american. so that was very dissapointing. I would recommend this resort highly but be prepared to not get any special treatment

We were amazed at how wonderful everything was right from the first moment we arrived - the porters handled luggage, bar staff brought us a cold drink, and the desk staff offered an upgrade at a minimal charge (get the upgrade!). Service was phenominal all the time!!!

Our room was fantastic, cleaned daily, and furbished with all the amenities along with a great view. King bed, bar fridge, robe and slippers were all supplied.

'Buffet' usually is a bad word, not here. The food is great in the buffet and better in the a la carte restaurants.

The beaches are beautiful and large. Swimming is fun once you pass the few rocky areas.

No vendors on the beach; no waiter on the beach; no garbage on the beach; no tops on the beach :)

On the down side, this is largely a family resort; there were lots of kids and teens (Christmas time). With so many people it was busy at times and led to some annoyances. Not a couples getaway. This is not a small resort, so bring good walking shoes.

Evening entertainment consisted of the daily shows or the dance club - not much else to do other than shop.

The internet was flaky and the computers old, but hey, it's a vacation.

We had a great time and would not hesitate to stay at the Barcelo Colonial again. We felt safe throughout our stay. These friendly people aim to please!!!

The weather was not hot so it was too cold to go in the pool but the ocean was great. Lot's to do and we had a blast.
This was my first time at an all inclusive and my girlfriend had been to many but liked this one the best. We met other people from Toronto who flew for much less $850. or less, that was very disappointing.

En somme une belle expérience mais je m'attendais à plus de la Riviera Maya...j'ai préféré Cayo Santa Maria à Cuba (Melia Las Dunas)pour plage et même la nourriture.

Unfortunately it was spring break for U.S high school so 600 teenagers on resort- disco and pool swarmed by kids. Overall good vacation but not sure I would go there again.

Just got back March 2/2011 and was worth every penny! The whole resort is beautiful, big but all the walking you do here wears off all the great food you consume!The grounds are lush and well groomed, the rooms are clean and very comfortable,the food is good and there is something for everyone.We traveled in a large group with 6 teenagers and 10 adults and everyone had a great time. My only complaint would be that in some areas there wasn't enough staff. (the pool bars and some specialty restaurants)I would return to this hotel in the future &/or stay at the Barcelo in another location. This hotel chain is fabulous.
