Great but with some room for improvement.

Me and my husband stayed at the crown paradise for a week in april 2012; over all we had a nice stay, it is a great hotel and the staff is amazing but there is a few things to concider before booking:

It is a family resort !!! read all the reviews... people are not exagerating, there are kids everywhere!! It did not bother us too much but it was certainly not the relaxing vacation we were expecting...

No biggie but it is an older resort so it does need some work on the esthetic side (tiles cracked, paint peeling etc) but really not a big deal. Front desk was really efficient and nice to us.

If you are like me and are scared of birds reconcider booking this hotel as there are no signs asking guests not to feed the animals and there were literaly seaguls everywhere on the beach.. Some people were throwing fries from the pool down on the beach. To each their own, but if you dont like bird fights right next to you or like fries landing on you when you are sleeping on the beach (I swear that literaly happend to me) stay away. As you can see I am not a fan of birds but also you need to know that if you are scared of dragonflies be prepared they are all over the place !!! Iguanas... you would think so, but no. Dragonflies yes!!!!

Food: food is good, there is always something at the buffet. Italian restaurant not worth it, French was good, mexican as well but the best ones were the steak house and the seafood restaurant. The crown lounge for adults only had good breakfasts, beautiful view and is sooo more relaxing than the buffet. As for room service it is free but there is not a great deal of sellection;burgers and fries, nuggetts etc.

Water bottle are hard to get by but the water they serve everywhere on the resort is purified.

Drinks: My 2 favorite drinks are mojitos and amaratto sour... Mojitos are not made with real mint, but with some sort of liquor and colorant. I have to say that much of the alcohol in cocktails served on the beach and at the pool are watered down. But if you ask for more alcohol when they are making your drink it evens out. My husband enjoyed the beer and the micheladas which were also hit or miss depending on which bar you order from.

Rooms: We upgraded from standard room to crown club room, again if traveling as a couple it is a must. The rooms are on adult only floors so it is very quiet. The room was very clean and beautiful; you get a jaccuzzi with a view of the ocean the only downfall it was not on the balcony but inside the room... Bathroom is really spacious and nice. (FYI: you would think that a mini fridge with water and beer and juice be in all rooms but apparently it is a perk reserved for the club crown rooms, so if you are in standard room dont expect a mini bar in room).

Beach: excellent as always in Cancun !! as previously mentionned only major down fall were the bird invasions and the very loud noise ( I get it, it cannot be complete silence on the beach lol but really sometimes it was really bad. Yes there are a lot of men trying to sell you sun glasses bracelets and all kinds of other things on the beach, yes it is anoying but really as soon as you say no thank you they leave you alone. If you pretend to be sleeping they dont even bother.

if you want a sun chair under a little hut you need to go at 7:00 am to reserve your bed if not you will be stuck with no shade. It s about the same thing for the pool area. We only went to the main pool (infinity pool) as we are more beach people. Pool is nice and clean with again a beautiful view.

Over all great stay but would not go back unless I was going with kids and family not really a place for honeymooners.

 It was just O.K

First I went with kids, and Think for Adults only, you will find it has ALOT of kids at this resort, so please consider that.

I am not a person to complain, like I find some people on here, which are bottomless pit, and never pleased. I found some things that need improvement but also things that were nice about this place, so please read if you want the TRUTH and not just ALL complaints.

I would like to say that this resort was alirght. I have been to 4 Stars and 5 Stars and I believe this is a 3 1/2 star.

Buffet

The buffet is probably my biggest complaint. The way it is run is a joke. every resort I have been too, you walk through the door, someone is there to greet you, and walk you to your table, which then you can proceed to get a plate and get your food. But at Crown paradise you walk in and have to get your food, or find a table by your self... which if you are a family of no more then 4 is easy to find, but if traveling with friends or other family, it can be difficult to find two tables cleaned near each other to put together. ALSO there are NO more then 2 or 3 people working at the buffet to clean the tables, get you clean utensils, or drinks... and you will find your food COLD by the time you can get this accomplished which is not what i consider 4 or 5 star quality.

Room

Beds were a bit hard, but I got sleep so that is all that matters. There is NO fridge or water in the room. You need to ask for water, but they will give you how many bottles you ask for. I still wish there was a fridge.

Lobby
No free Wi-fi, but enough chairs with a small table to play cards or something, so that was nice.

THE GOOD

The big slides were fun for kids and adults. I think there was a height requirement, but my son which i don't think met it, was still able to go on. he is 8 years old, i think if your 6 years and your child isn't afraid, will probably be able to go on. The pirate ship was good, but found the water was freezing as alot of it is in the shade... but that is also a good thing.. so it's not a complaint.

They have rock climbing,(which my son tried) at certain hours, and zip lining, age or height i think is strict.

Beach

The beach was nice, but the waves are constant and can be pretty strong if there is a storm near by, or approaching. I think we got there when a storm had just passed and the waves were worse but as the days went on got less in intensity. So if you think you will snorkel, it won't happen. No coral reefs, no fish. But if you like a sandy beach and sandy water then you will enjoy this beach.

The Restaurants.

You do have to make reservations early like 8 am or 9am. Every time i called in the morning it was not bad, i was able to make reservations for that day and the next day which was nice. Wayne's Boot has a mechanical bull which was fun for adults only. The food i found (chicken) was a bit dry given it's a steakhouse. The seafood place was alright, but not alot of selection in the seafood department, but i don't eat seafood and there was something for me (chicken) which i enjoyed. The italian took a long time for food to come, but it was good, but spicy. The mexican was by far the best. Great Food, MUST try the SUN/MOON soup!! AWESOME! Great music, great staff.

The entertainment

was great by the pool, staff great, Music was always on, but i found a bit loud... but we were near a speaker. I'm not old... lol only 28. The snack bar food was good, ate there at lunch rather then buffet as the food taste better.... they do have a sushi bar, but i don't eat sushi and heard it was alight, but try it for your self.

All in all it was a nice hotel, lots of kids, but does have an adult only section. Hope you have a great vacation where ever you decide to go. :)

 Great Family Vacatioin

This is our second year at Crown Paradise. The second year was just as good as the first. If you want a resort that is geared toward families (particularly children between 4-12) this is the spot. The kids club is ideal for this age group. The water park keeps them busy and the staff are very attentive and genuinely care about your children. The mini-golf needs some repairs but is still great for children. The resort also has separate waterslides, rock climbing and zip-lining all outside of the kids club.

The restaurants are good. No, the beef tenderloin is not what you'd expect at a fine restaurant in a major U.S. or Canadian city but it is good for resort food. The food is not fine dining but it is still respectable.

Overall, this resort is all about families. I would not recommend this to singles or people wanting to party since this is not the resort for that. This is a resort geared toward a relaxing, family vacation that will keep the kids active. If this is what you are looking for search no further. The price-point is also exceptional!

 Family trip

Good food, nice layout, fantastic for families, great beach and warm water.
The bed mattress was firm but view of the ocean was Awesome.
Late night noise in the hotel was downer. Noise could be herd through out the hotel in tower 1. Sushi was killer

 Family fun in Paradise!

This is a great hotel with a mixture of activities for both families with kids, and adults only. Very clean and very friendly staff, more than enough food and choices including room service. The beach is beautiful, big waves and sometimes rough but the kids loved it.

 Hot, hot, hot!

We had a great time - check in was quick upon arrival. We had upgraded to the two level family room on the ground floor that worked out really well with our two daughters. With the view of the water, we woke up with the sunrise each morning. My favourite food was the Mexican restaurant and the Chinese / sushi shack near the Infinity pool. I indulged in that every day for lunch. The smoothie bar at the buffet was a nice surprise! All the staff were wonderful. There was a lot of security walking around, but discreetly. The girls' (8 and 10) had fun with the kids club and came and went as they pleased. They always knew where to find us. A great time was had by all!

 Bel emplacement

 Below Average to Average Hotel

Restaurants - the reservation system is ridiculous, and when you do finally get through you can only get reservations after 8:30pm. Italian - okay, Wayne Boots - okay, Mexian - good, Fish - okay. Service was good in all of the restaurants. The buffet was more like a cafeteria -- no atmosphere, food was mediocre at best, drinks were watered down, yes you will find something to eat but after a week of this food you will tire of it fast. Room Service was good. You can only get bottled water from room service -- it is not available anywhere else at the hotel.
Room -- was fine, bed was extremely hard, water pressure was terrible, there were numerous days for hours at a time where there was no hot water, and one evening there was no water at all.
Beach - was nice, but the current is extremely strong -- there was no swimming 7/7 days we were there, kids could absolutely not go into the water. You will not get a palapa unless you "reserve" it before 5:30am.
Pools - very crowded, you will not get a chair unless you reserve it before 7am.
We had a crib in our room -- not to Canadian standards. Rails were very low -- and my 16 month old was able to climb over them.
We went to this hotel with low expectations -- and got what we expected. We wouldn't return and we definitely wouldn't go to this hotel if we didn't have children. The hotels in the Mayan Riviera are so much nicer and worth the extra money you pay for them.

Not terrible but won't go back

There is nothing outrageously bad about this resort but it is definitely 'tired' and in need of a makeover. Some pressure from timeshare people but we just ignored them after a few days. The restaurants are ok - food was edible but not outstanding. It was very busy (to capacity) when we were there and I understand it is high season but it was not worth the money. Will definitely try other resorts before returning. Would classify this as a 3-3.5 star at best.

 Awesome Place

Just got back from the week, it was awesome. Food is great. But even great food gets boring after a while. I hate the time share people, I have no idea why hotels have people in the lobby trying to sell you timeshares. My kids loved it there, there is a crazy amount of things for kids todo! Overall Highly recommended.!

 Wonderful resort

We had a wonderful time at the Crown Paradise. You can tell it is not new, however the staff do an excellent job with regards to maintainance. The grounds were very well kept and the staff was very attentive. It is definately a family resort however there is lots of places for a couple to be away from the hustle and bustle. We had no trouble make reservations for any of the restaurants and the food was always very good.

Crown Paradise - OK place to stay

We stayed at the CPC for 1 week. We choose this resort because it seemed like a very family oriented resort and it had a pretty good baby/kids club. We travelled with our 2 yr old.

The food at the breakfast buffet was OK. We didn’t eat at the lunch or dinner buffet very much to provide comments. The dinners at the Al LaCartes were great. We especially enjoyed the Steak house (and the mechanical bull riding!!), the Italian and the Seafood. We didn't eat at the French restaurant because it was adults only. Mexican was not the greatest food.

I was disappointed about the times of the lunch buffet. It closed every day from 11:30 to 12:30 (switch over from breakfast to lunch) which was generally the time my daughter was needing lunch (then nap). There was a snack bar that offered hotdogs, burgers, chicken nuggets and nachos - which was OK - but not what you want to feed your child every day for lunch. At 12 the sushi bar opened and that offered some nice alternative food choices like fried rice, noodle dishes, veggie dishes and rolls.

The kids club (4yrs ) was fantastic, tonnes of water slides and a splash pool. We took my daughter in, she was too young but the staff allowed her to go in with a parent watching her.

The Baby club (18 mth to 3) was like a free daycare. We would visit the baby club during family time offered at 9am and 4pm for 1hr; otherwise the kids had to be dropped off and left with the baby club staff. My daughter enjoyed playing at the baby club, with the toys, the bouncy castle and the baby pool with a small water slide. I tried dropping her off and leaving but was paged back after 15mins – it didn’t work out.

The resort isn't all that stroller friendly, but we made it work. All the main areas you can access by stroller. Most of the stroller paths were steep and/or narrow. Certain places like the beach we needed two people to carry the stroller up and down the stairs.

The rooms were nothing special but met our needs. We didn’t have a fridge in our room, which I was disappointed to learn about. Rooms with a fridge should be a standard, IMO. In the end we found the room service worked well and was fairly quick.

The shows were great and from 6 to 9 the resort had a two-man band that played music in the lobby which was nice. My daughter enjoyed dancing around in the lobby before her bedtime.

After 9pm there wasn't much entertainment to be had at the resort. I assume because they promote bars on the Cancun strip (Coco Bongos, Daddyos, Sr. Frogs).

The staff were great and worked hard to make your stay enjoyable, which I appreciated. I don’t know if I would go back. Not because I didn’t enjoy myself but because there’s too many other places to see.

 Great Family Resort

Just returned from a week at the Crown Paradise. We have a young child (2 and 1/2) and it was perfect. The property is compact, close to the airport, everything is easy to find and if you forget something in your room you aren't missing for 30 - 40 minutes while you make the trek back. The food was good, the beach is lovely, the waves are very strong so if you choose to let your child swim in the ocean keep a very close eye on them. The two kids pools are great. The staff were lovely, overall I don't have any complaints. Would I vacation here if I didn't have a child - no proabably not. But I do, so I did and it was a great family vacation.

 Good Value

Overall I think we got what we expected as we weren't really expecting a 4.5 star resort for the money we paid. Rooms seem a bit tired and could use updating. A reminder for maid service was required a couple of times. Maintenance was lacking in a few public areas. Food and restaurants were decent with good variety and selections. We tried room service once and were disappointed in how long it took. Staff were very friendly. Drinks, pools and beach were above average. Lots of kids so definitely a family vacation spot. Internet access was good but at a cost of $20USD/day.
