Went with my family for a week. This is our second time at the Ambar, and our forth at the Bahia Principe. Wonderful place to stay, staff are very friendly, food is very good, beach and pool are awesome. Definitely I will go there when traveling to Punta Cana.

This was our fifth vacation at a resort in Punta Cana and the Ambar is, hands-down, the best of the bunch! From the moment we arrived we were impressed with the elegance of the buildings, the amazing grounds and the rooms. We were a bit shy of the size, over 7,000 guests when full, but the way it is set up it never feels crowded or even "busy". Best food we have ever had at a resort, the buffet outclasses most of the "a-la-carte" restaurants at other resorts. You must go to the Don Pablo at least once, (it's worth going every night). The beach is beautiful, a little small for the size of the resort but lots of options for loungers. We never used the internet or business services so won't comment on those. Can't think of a negative part of the experience!

We had a very lovely time at the Gran Bahia Principe Ambar.
This was our 5th trip to the Dominican Republic and our 4th to the Punta Cana region. We enjoyed each trip, but the Ambar was the best.
We loved the large room with a big king-size bed and good quality sheets and towels. We loved the bathroom: it was large and well appointed, good water pressure and lots of hot water.
The food was excellent: options at the buffet were very good. The a la carte restaurants provided good variety and excellent service.

The beach was lovely and uncrowded. The pool was gorgeous. The grounds were well attended. We never saw litter.
We loved that the restaurants and the large lobby were smoke free. What a treat. While it is a very large resort, we enjoyed the long walks to the other parts of the resort: it allowed us to indulge at the restaurants. Despite the size of the resort, we always found bars, washrooms and other facilities conveniently located.
The staff was extremely friendly and professional, at the restaurants, the maid service, the spa, the bars, the front desk...
We definitely and enthusiastically recommend this fabulous resort.

The Ambar was a tropical paradise, we had a wonderful experience. The staff of the Ambar, the food and accomodations were more than we expected.We will return to the Ambar many more times.

Rated a 5 star is a stretch. If you consider value for your dollar in ratings, then that's a reason for the high rating. Too many cons.
Pros - beautiful pool, very good food, the one night of 7 they had a live band in the lobby was so much fun, spacious rooms, hard working friendly staff, easy check in, decent transportation to and from the airport, good drinks (when requested), clean well maintained grounds.
Cons - getting up at 5:45am in order to get a good spot at the beach (it was still dark), beach very crowded, completely shut down lobby by 11:30pm, only able to get 3 a la carte reservations, even though we were entitled to one each day and we booked the first morning we were there. Why they take reservations in advance by e-mail is beyond my understanding, hotel never has change for tipping ( do they expect us to tip with 10 and 20 dollar bills?), we tipped over a $100 for the week. Rooms stink of cigarette smoke (no non smoking available), if you want special service they expect you to tip very big, the entire beach front in front of the Ambar should be reserved for Ambar guests, not just the area a hundred feet from the water. The beachfront just left of the hotel is disgusting, littered with trash and weeds that stink like dead fish. Beds are hard but not the worst we've slept on, refrigerators should be classified as ovens. Drinks would be colder sitting on the dresser. No lobby entertainment other than our first night there. The lobby should have live singing at an adults only resort every night of the week. The overall Gran Bahia resort way too big for our liking, a real sore spot for us. How does any of this constitute a 5 star rating? Not convinced we'd return. there are much better choices available out there.

Very nice overall beach is awesome but food could be better. Not horrible by any means but I would not say 5 star food.

Had a very enjoyable week. Stayed over Easter week so there was less than normal staff on for the weekend but service was still good. The beach was wonderful and the property while massive was easy to get around with the onsite shuttle service. Food was very good especially the buffet restaurant. The ala carte restaurants were decent but not great except for the Mexican restaurant which was disappointing. The two shows we went to were the Circus show and the Michael Jackson tribute and they were fabulous. Overall the trip was very relaxing with enough entertainment to keep us amused. The only downside was the flight with Air Canada which was 8 hours late thanks to labour strife but that was not the hotels fault. Great property just don't go with Air Canada.

We have been to the Bahia Principe Ambar three times and all experiences have met our expectations. We would definitely return.

Second trip to tha Ambar and we will return again. It is our home away from home!

Nous sommes revenus enchantés de notre séjour. Excellent accueil, très bonne qualité des restaurants et de la nourriture. C'est un immense complexe, mais comme c'est divisé en sections, cela donne l'impression d'un petit village avec des quartiers différents. Service de qualité, belle grande chambre. Nous avons été particulièrement impressionnés par la propreté de l'endroit. Nous séjournions dans la partie "Ambar", réservée aux 18 ans et plus, ce que nous avons apprécié. La plage est grande et composée d'un beau sable fin. C'est un endroit que nous recommandons sans hésiter.

La seule chose qui nous a déplu, ce sont les deux employés chargés de faire la promotion d'une formule de séjour dans les différents hôtels de la chaîne en échange de "cadeaux". On nous assure que ce n'est pas du "time sharing", mais on veut nous faire remplir rapidement un formulaire... On sait qu'il font leur travail, mais ils sont quelquefois insistants, ce qui peut être désagréable. Il suffit par contre de leur dire poliment un "Non merci" convaincu et ils nous laissent tranquilles par la suite.

Here is a quote right from the resort's website "unlimited à la carte dinners in the theme restaurant of your choice". This is clearly misleading when they won't book you in restaurants of 'your' choice. The better restaurants were said to be unavailable even while half the tables were unoccupied. While the room, lobby/reception areas and restaurants all looked good, there was more bad than good. After having a very leaky bathroom that took them numerous visits to fix, they would not even accommodate an extra hour as a late checkout resulting from a half day trip booked at the resort pool.

On s'attendait à plus que ça pour un 5 étoiles, adultes seulement. D'habitude cette catégorie offre plus de luxe et d'extra. Le prix est quand même abordable.

This resort was absolutely gorgeous, the grounds were well maintained, the rooms spacious and clean and with amazing food. The pool of the ambar section is wonderful, with a nice swim up bar and always plenty of chairs presuming your there before 12-1.
The staff here were for the most part wonderful, particularly our room cleaner ricoberto who did an amazing job every day. This resort is also good with a la cartes, letting you book as many as you like. The french cusine, don pablo, was the best restaurant on the resort, with food better than most I've eaten in Canada. Even the buffet food is amazing.
But there was one thing this resort lacked and that was a nice beach. It didnt affect our trip too much, as the pool is wonderful, but be prepared, particularly if your a beach person. It is a very narrow beach, not a lot of sand area, and whatever sand area there is is CROWDED with beach chairs. Its not too bad if you just go for a quick swim, but spending the day at the beach was crowded and not enjoyable. There was also a lot of seaweed along the beach.
Its not the entire bavaro beach that is narrow and very crowded though, just the parts belonging to the Gran Bahia Principe.
However, I wouldnt encourage anyone to avoid the ambar because of the beach, as it is a truely beautiful resort.

Excellent vacation, I have been to this resort numerous times and have never been disappointed. Great service, the staff is very friendly and will always to out of their way to make it an enjoyable vacation. The resort is very clean and well kept. Food was great in the bufet was great a lot of variety.

Très bel hôtel. Très grand complexe. La section Ambar, pour adultes seulement est très bien aménagée. Elle comprend une plage et une piscine privées pour cette section. L'accueil s'est très bien déroulé. La chambre était prête à notre arrivée à 1:30. Les restaurants à la carte sont très bien ainsi que le buffet. Le manque de parasols et palapas fait en sorte qu'on doit s'y rendre très tôt le matin. Le gym est à repenser. Manque d'équipement et celui-ci est désuet. L'entretien de la végétation est impeccable. Le personnel toujours souriant et sympathique. La plage est longue et permet de grande marche. Nous en étions à notre deuxième fois à la section Ambar et nous y retournerons sûrement.

This was our 8th trip to AMBAR. This resort continues to amaze. We meet more and more people who have returned on each one of our visits. Guess that speaks for itself! Thanks to Jorge Abreu, Christian, Maria and all the staff for another great vacation !

Très satisfait de notre choix pour une 1ère expérience. Beau site, section Ambar réservée au 18 ans donc très paisible.

Le site est immense, la bouffe est excellente dans tous les restaurants, le vin rouge maison n'est pas à la hauteur, le blanc et le rosé sont corrects sans plus. Cependant le prix du vin en surplus est pas cher et le choix est super.

We stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe Ambar and were overall quite impressed with the resort. It was clean, the grounds were immaculate and the service by the staff was incredible. The manager was present at every meal and was very much a support to his staff. The rooms were nice. The bathrooms were not as clean as I would have liked. The food in the buffets was average. We definitely enjoyed the a la carte food better. Huge pool area. Nice beach area, although quite busy.
A quieter resort when compared to the bavaro/punta cana that we were attached to.

Excellent vacation at the Ambar with a few minor irritants.
I would consider returning to the Ambar.

Upon arrival we received a very warm reception from the very friendly and helpful staff. They provided a well organized and efficient orientation! We were extremely impressed with the attitude and attentiveness of the hotel staff. Minor upgrades in the rooms could enhance the overall value of the package. Better pillows etc.
There were enough activities available if so desired. Overall would rate it as a 5 star property.

Below expectations-2nd time there; smoke alarm went off in middle of night (1:00 and 3:00 am) two times. Upstairs neighbor very loud and disruptive every night. We both got sick this time around (first time getting sick while traveling down South) After getting sick, staff in restaurants and bars refused to give us bottled water. Not sure if we will go back a third time yet...Beach is beautiful, staff is friendly, resort very clean. This time, it was well below our expectations mainly because we were sick and had problems with noise levels in our room. Not sure if we will go back for a 3rd time. :(

Holiday started the moment we boarded the bus to the hotel. Cold beers were offered to all passengers. Upon arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a guest services manager and given our registration forms. Since it was early afternoon, we were told that we could not check in before 3:00 PM but could have lunch or a drink at the bar. This is pretty standard at all resorts in the DR.

The lobby bar at the Ambar is one of the better bars on the resort. Murfi the bartender serves a mean Vodka Martini and was the best of all the bartenders at this resort.

There was a minor glitch with the room as we had requested connecting rooms. This was quickly rectified with the guest service lady when it was discovered that I was a returning guest and that she gave me a "black"" bracelet that allowed me unlimited access throughout the resort.

Since this part of this 4 comlex resort was adult only, the pool and deck area was not as crowded as other parts of the resort. Security was quick to enforce the 18 rule. Deck chairs had to be secured very early for the prime locations around the pool. A lot of people complain but then again it's the same at all resorts.

The rooms and grounds were immaculate. Mini bar was stocked daily. Presidente Beer is served throughout the resort. They have a problem with draft beer. It has a taste to it that could indicate that the lines are not flushed or cleaned on a regular basis. After three days, we started getting extra cans of beer in our rooms and bringing them to the pool. Tasted much better.

The beach are is one of the nicest anywhere. Seaweed is prevalent but is cleaned up on a regular basis.

Food in the restaurant was very good and the selection was varied. The only speialty restaurant we took in was the steak house. We had made a reservation and requested a birthday cake for our leap year kid turning 13 (52) It came bang on with candles and a lot
of hoopla. The steak was excellent.

The Gran Bahia Principe is a huge resort. We did a pub and pool crawl that took us the better part of an afternoon. Had a drink in every bar. In the end, the Ambar was the best.

Already looking forward to next year.

Room Tip: For all the time you spend in the rooms, anywhere is good. At the Ambar there are no really great views.

Really nice and clean but the service was not as good as last year.

Let me start with this resort is great. It is our third time to the Ambar section of this resort. The food is perfect, the service is great, and the rooms are of some of the best standard I have seen in the DR. The beach is endless and if the pool is your thing, there are many to choose from. Please ignore these negative reviews out there. DO NOT write a review if you were bumped from the resort, you have nothing of value to share other than your booking company needs a bad review. DO NOT write your revies based on the flight, the airport, the transfer, the one bad meal you could have recieved in your own city or that fancy martini you counldn't get at the bar. This is the cheapest of the 5 Stars you can stay at in the DR and it is great value for those looking to add a little something fancy in their lives. You will fully enjoy all that this adults only resort has to offer.
