 Tropical Princess in Punta Cana

We had a wonderful 2 week stay at this resort. The beach was amazing. The food was great as well. We had a beautiful big room with a balcony. We feel we got a really good deal through itravel and with the Price Drop Protection, upon our return we received a cheque for $280. It was money well spent.

 Tropical Princess

This was my 5 th visit to Punta Cana, the 1st one to the Tropical Princess. So I will compare what I have to compare to:
*Sunwing is awesome to fly with
*The rep was a bit misleading with the excursions he suggested and we came to find out that he charged us 15$ more for the same ecursion as our companions.
*The resort was very clean
*Lots of hot water and whenever we needed anything they were very accomondating.
*BUT on average the staff was not that friendly. We actually had to wake the towel guy up twice to get a towel. I'm rating this a 4* , could be a 4.5 in my eyes if the staff was friendlier, the rooms were less out dated and the food was a bit better. BUT I do know that I was in the Dominican, so note that I am basing this on previous 4* in Punta Cana.

Another Great Stay in Punta Cana

2nd time at the TP/Caribe and was even better than the 1st. Stay at 1, play at 2 and I will be back at the Princess again next year. 3 pools, 1 for each mood, never went hungery at the buffet, the beach is simply the best with large waves for bobbing up and down, no boring flat water here! Rooms a little dated but clean and bug free, stay out of the larger buildings if you don't like the late night noise of lack of water pressure. Throw a few bucks around and you will be treated like a king!!

You get what you pay for

We got a great deal on this resort for a last minute get away. The resort is well kept, grounds are beautiful, pools are clean and the beach is outstanding. Our room was musty when we first walked in but found out it was the bed spread and had it replaced. We had an ocean view room that was wonderful but would get a higher level floor if doing it again. The food we could not find anything that we liked. Buffet had lots of stuff but becasue of the internation clientelle that the resort attracts they are catering to many different food likes. There was a paste bar that became a staple for us. On the third day I got sick and it didn't stop. The day before we were to fly home I purchased Imodium (charged me $20)so I could ride home on the plain. Still have it and have been home 3 days.
If you are on a budget or have a large family this is a good deal. But expect that someone in your group will get sick. Not sure what it was, we drank only bottled water and even used it for brushing our teeth. But you don't know if they are using tap water for washing the salad ingrediences, ice cubes etc. Bring your own Imodium. We met three other couples and only one of the couples did not get sick. All the others had one or the other get sick. We purchased this trip because of the cost and we got what we paid for. Would I come back to this resort again, only if I'm part of a group or someone else is paying. I would be a lot more careful of what I ate and bring drugs.

 Family Trip to Tropical Princess

Bad bad room. Our travel rep already knew some of the problems - family room building had NO hotwater - working on it. we had mould on walls in room, not enough bottle water or towels. We are a family of 5 and they left us 4 of everything - towels, water, pop and we asked for more. Beach was disgusting - seaweed everywhere and no tractors or raking of it done by any staff. garbage on beach - gross. Resort grounds were nice - well kept. Resort had timeshare/condo people everywhere wanting us to go with them or listen to them or just relentlessly bugging. Let in "fleamarket" people - really pushy! No way to restaurant without going by them. Great Great workers - waiters, bartenders, entertainment staff, maintenance - all great.

 Family vacation

Not the best of hotels, problem with leaking celling in bathroom, very small, ours was a double and the kids had two doubles, if you tip the room they always have a nice towel sculpure on your bed or bathroom, very noisy, but close to pool, beach and food.

 Great Place

We thought the hotel and staff were great. We were a little confused about where the TROPICAL AND CARIBE PRINCESS differ because they are both in the same vicinity and we could not determine where one ends and the other begins. It seems that everyone shares the same buffett but this could be due to the fact it is not as busy at this time of the year. The pools in both areas were great. We did ask for a different room after the first night because we wanted king bed veses 2 doubles and there was no problem with this. Staff were courteous and very helpful.

 Tropical Princess Resort

The resort is very beautiful, the people are all so friendly and very nice. The entertainment was excellent, they put on very good shows. More of a family resort, therefore there were not a lot of teenagers or young adults around. Very relaxing, and enjoyed our stay overall. The first room we had was not what we were expecting, the beds were not that comfortable, and the room looked tired and run down. However, we did ask to switch rooms, and we moved to a "family room" in another building, and this room was very nice. Very clean, we enjoyed our stay a lot more. However, your vacation is not spent in your room, and it is just for showering and sleeping. Therefore, if you can tolerate that, you will very much enjoy your stay here other than that. The food was okay, not great.

 A wonderful trip

We had a terrific time in Punta Cana. After reading some reviews on various forums I was a little concerned for what we were in for, but that was all for not. I don't understand a lot of the complaints people had. Completely unfounded in my opinion. We had a wonderful time at this resort and would not hesitate to return. My only issue is with the tremendous amount of cigarette butts scattered around the beach. This is obviously no fault of the resort - they have provided numerous ashtrays for guests to place their finished cigarettes...the fault lies directly on the guests who just take it upon themselves to throw their butts on the beach. If this continues, in another few years, the beach will be all butts and no sand. Put your trash where it belongs people. Please...so that we can all continue to enjoy this gem of a beach.

 Not a 4 star !

This is not a 4 Star resort ! The staff were rude, the entertainment was horrible, alot of families with small children. The beds were uncomfortable and rooms had poor lighting, not to mention the roosters that wake you up at 5 am everyday. Would not reccommend

 Tropical Princess, Punta Cana

My husband and I had a wonderful time at this resort. The resort is clean, food is wonderful, and the beach is fabulous! My only complaint about the beach might be that the cabanas are too close together, creating more shade than I wanted! We had to move rooms twice because of issues with leaky bathrooms, shower not draining, but front desk staff were wonderful - they sent someone to move our stuff to the new location both times. They were very eager to make sure we were happy with our accomodations. Food in the buffet was very good - lots of variety, and well done. We didn't go to any a la cartes because we were totally happy with the food and relaxed atmosphere at the buffet. The Creperie is AMAZING! I would suggest that they offer more activities on the resort itself for adults in the evening...ping pong tables, pool tables, even cards and crib boards. Sometimes it's just nice to sit in the lobby and unwind after your day. The staff all over the resort were exceptional...we thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this trip and would definitely return.

 Belle Semaine

$ 11.00 par personne.

 Great Family Getaway

We had a great vacation at the Tropical Princess! My kids (ages 9, 7 and 18 months) had a great time. The kids club kept the older two quite busy. The 18 month old had fun in the pool, at the beach and running around. All the staff were very friendly (with exception of the towel boy!!). There is a creperie / ice cream bar which is a nice treat in the afternoon. A snack bar near the beach has hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, cheese sauce, guacamole, fried chicken and lots of other good snacks. The main buffet had very good variety. A favourite part was jumping in the waves...very refreshing! We would definitely return.

 Expected better

We arrived into La Romana Airport and I would strongly discourage anyone to do the same. Our bus ride was 3 hours in length.
We arrived at the TP and were booked into the Caribe Club hotel side.
We later found out that the Tropical Princess side is French speaking only. The pool and the entertainment crew on the tropical princess side are French only as well, and will not speak to you in Spanish or English.
We requested over the period of 3 days the volleyball net in the pool for the Caribe side. We were told it was broken, until I spoke to the hotel manager who indicated the Entertainment crew on the Caribe Side were just lazy and he would make sure they put the net up. There was never any activities done on the Caribe Side until I complained to management on our final day. It appeared they preferred playing cards behind the snack bar. They did however loudly play a CD with the same 5 songs, repeatedly through-out the day.
We attempted to reserve an ala carte, and were told we had to pay an additional 15-30 per person per restaurant. When i spoke to management in regards to this the day after, they indicated that the boy reserving the ala carte was swindling monies from guests, and they were taking action.
Unfortunately It was too late for us to reserve into a restaurant as they were all full, and those that did pay him never got their money returned.
Getting a towel in the morning was also another nightmare. The boy at the towel area would request money from guests to reserve a towel when the fresh ones came. The wait for towels ranged from 1-2 hours.

The only positive comments I have on this hotel was their nice grounds, and the cleanliness. The beach was also nice with white sand and lots of shaded areas, however there was a lot of sea weed and I found the other hotels maintained a cleaner beach area.

I would not recommend this hotel to English speaking guests, as it is all French European and French Canadian on the TP side, and 80% European on the Caribe Club side.

 Great time

Just don't listen to the people that brag about about the service, food or the rooms. We were staying at the family suites and it was really nice. It would have been great it they would update the bath towels and bed sheets, but other than that, it was great. All the staff were very nice and friendly. My only concern were other guests staying at the hotel, mostly from France, really rude almost discriminatory towards Canadians or US. truth to be spoken there were a few canadians or US tourists at this hotel. Only for this reason I might not go back. Food was great, perfect, every day different menu, we did not bother with the ala carte restourants.
