 Nice resort for Families

It was a very hot week in Dominican. We enjoyed the water park within the resort as it kept the kids happy. The food was okay in the buffet, I recommend the el la cartes, they were tasty.

 Family Vacation

I was fairly happy with the resort although told it is being replaced with condos in the very near future. I took my 16yr old son, 18yr old daughter, her 19yr old boyfriend, my husband and his friend. The food was good, we always had something to each and alot of variety. The sand fleas were a little too much and the ocean was very rough.

 APP-42.1

Our stay at Allegro was on March 17/2012 to March 24/2012, during this period the price was just right, so we decided to explore what other people was all about.
I would like to start with the positives. The check in was quick because the rooms was already assigned when you get there. The beach was perfect, clean and in excellent condition. The pool was great especially the wave pool which was great for the time it was working.
The bars and bar tenders was excellent no complaints there. Our room was in an excellent location (42.1) and it was well cleaned on a daily basis including clean towels and replenishment of all used coffee etc. you could actually smeel the freshness after the maid cleans it. The staff there was great.
Our two main concerns was: -
1:There is double standard at the front desk, here is why, they offered 75 minutes of internet time, I forgot to use it, so on the last day after checking out, I aske to use it because it was a long wait after you have being kicked out of your room, lady told me sorry, you are not in the system and I agreed with her. The other couple that we went with also checked out and the lady allow them to use the internet.
2: The food is terrible including the al lacarte.I believe the food are recycled. Get this, I went for soup one lunch time and it reads "vegetable soup" when I dipped into it, it has beef in it, so I enjoyed it. During dinner it was the same soup, only this time it reads" Beef soup".
I think you get what you paid for. I would definetely not returned to this location because of the food. I must mention that we normally go on these vaction in the caribbean at least twice per year.

Never again - teenage spring break not for family

Never again - teenage spring break not for family"

The hotel was clearly a 3 star - don't expect more. It is run down, but is overall clean and tidy.

The food is okay - nothing to write home about, but there was a selection, and you could find something that you may like.

The wave pool was great for the kids. Travelling with our family - our kids are 2 and 3, this would have been a great family resort, as this is what others were saying on Trip Advisor. However, once we arrived there, we found out there were 2 high school groups booked there for spring break. The exact reason why we wanted a family resort was to avoid this. Perhaps it is a family resort 51 weeks of the year, but the one week over March break, I could have spent half the price and partied with the teenagers in Cancun. With them overtaking the resort, we were limited to the kids pool and the kids park. The rest of the resort was overtaken by foul mouthed drunk teens. Unacceptable.

The music at night was so lound, I felt like Brittany Spears was singing to me at the end of my bed. This went on until 1am, and then drunk screaming loud teenagers until 2-3am. When we (along with many other families) complained, we were told it would be better the next night.. it wasn't.

To top it all off - the maid felt that her children needed my 2 year olds pull ups more than my child. We brought 40 pull ups and 18 swimmer diapers - we arrive Friday March 9th in the afternoon. By Wednesday, I was left with 5 swimmer diapers and 8 pull ups. Disgusting. She also helped herself to 5 of my childrens Tylenol. Get a safe, and lock up everything for your kids.

I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone with children looking for a family resort. I am not one to complain, but the overall impression I am left with after our first family vacation is disappointment. I could go on - but feel there will be many other comments from this week posted by other unhappy families.

I sure hope Allegro Puerto Plata is hopeing to revert to a resort that caters to teenagers - they should have kept it like the Jack Tar - adults only. My kids don't need to see dirty condoms and hear f bombs at a family resort like this.

They should know that it is families like mine that are looking to book a great resort year after year... the teenagers won't be back - they will likely go to Mexico where there aren't so many families,... and this family won't be back. Pay a little more, and go somewhere more wholesome and that care about their repeat guests. We thought we were paying more than Mexico to avoid that.. guess not - we needed to pay even more.

Oh - and don't bother filling out the survey at the end - I filled mine out on Wednesday when I got it. They wanted to correct anything before I left... HA - when I boarded the bus back to the airport on Friday - my comment card was still sitting in the drop box.. a company that clearly doesn't care what we think... so now you can hear about it.

Book somewhere else!!!

it was a "good" time, but we won't go back there. The rooms were clean , less furniture would be better. The bath too small. No fresh coffee in between. There was a coffee-dispenser with awful coffee. The security personnel were useless.

Horrible and minimal selection of food.

Hotel is beautiful but the food is lacking. I have been all over the Dominican Republic and I have always loved the food. The food at the Allegro Puerto Plata is severly limited. They had the same small selection everyday. The rooms are adequate and the beach is nice. I would recommend that if you have small children you ask for a room far away from the lobby area as the music is very loud until after 1:00 am.

 Allegro Puerto Plata - Review

We were very happy with the location and all the amenities this resort offered. The resort was spacious, the staff friendly, food was great at the restaurants and the main buffet was pretty good too. The beach was excellent and the resort was well taken care of and everything was very clean. The service in the main buffet was a little sluggish but mostly because they were understaffed. We were on holidays and if I didn't have something I found it myself. The cleaning lady we had was great and we always had extra towels. Most people complained but we tipped every day and I think showing appreciation helps. The resort had lots of washrooms that were always clean with plenty of toilet paper and paper towels. Lots of lounge chairs and seating under umbrellas and reserve seating was never required. The Allegro was a smaller resort with plenty of pool space and bars so line ups were minimal. Very happy with this choice and would definitely go back. We definitely felt we received value for our money with this destination.

 Great Vacation!

We were very pleased and satisfied with the resort. The food was good, and the beach was fabulous. The resort staff were friendly and helpful. Do not lose your safe key as they do not have a master key. The safe needs to be drilled out and the expense is significant. Overall, this resort is a 4 star based on our experience. We recommend this resort to anyone.

 Great Stay!

For the price of this resort it was well worth it! The staff are more then friendly and entertaining. The food isnt bad at all, it does the job. It is close walking distance to the plaza which includes a disco coco bongos. Have gone twice already and am planning a third!

 No go to Allegro!!

If you are looking for a once in a lifetime vacation this is the spot! We will not be returning ever.
When we arrived at our room, I had to find a broom and sweep the floor, shower had not been cleaned ( it was covered in someone else's hair); the bed sheets had not been changed. we found something black on the sheets, not sure if it was chocolate or animal droppings. We were given one bottle of water for the whole week. The walls are paper thin, you could everything next door or upstairs. Staff should watch what they are saying in front of young children, they have no problem cursing or swearing in front of anyone.
2 thefts occurred on resort while we were there. saw rats on the activity pool deck.
On the upside, the wave pool bar was great!!! Fabulous bartender there. They could have ran the wave pool more often, they only turned it on when asked many times.
We would not even leave the resort because every time you moved you were harassed by someone wanting to sell you something or braid your hair, or take you on an excursion.
Food was okay, we ate a lot of chicken and pasta. Could have used more fresh fruit or better selection of it.
Courtesy rooms were small, and there was no hot water. Had to try to shower with cold water. Staff didn't seem to care that there was no hot water

 Rooms

We changed rooms two days after check in because our first room was too far away from the beach and diningroom for my 81 yearold dad. It took some pleading too get moved but, they did give us a great room eventually. The bathtub was plugged in the first room and I had to bail it out myself, the cleaning crew didn t seem to care about it. Otherwise the rooms were very clean and comfortable.

The Rating of this Resort Should be 2 Stars!

Front Desk is not helpful and a Manager can never be found. Resort needs to be torn down and rebuilt. There is no seating area in your room, nor much of one in the Lobby (2 tired couches and 3 chairs. Rooms are outdated, awkwardly laid out; furniture and fixtures are broken; and room is extremely noisy as doors are paper thin and no sound barriers between rooms exist. We were placed in what is called a family room (includes bunk beds), although we were a couple. Asked for room to be changed twice, however it never happened. Bats live on the patio at night leaving their guano for you in the morning. You are provided only one bottle of water for your entire stay, although you cannot drink the tap water! You are told to refill your bottle from a water cooler at the bar (so unhealthy) or buy more bottles from the store. Nor are you provided soft drinks or juice in your room. The day we arrived they had just creosoted the deck at the main pool, which made it unbearable to use for the week due to a noxious smell. Evening entertainment is degrading to women and other cultures, and inappropriate for children. Children's show was the same show every night. Food is bland and repetitive in nature and not geared to children at all. The hot food is not hot and the cold food is not cold. The homemade soup each day is the best thing on the menu. Bars were understaffed and only one beer is available. Wine is served at the bar from an old plastic jug. The wave pool was only turned on when someone from management walked around. There are not enough chairs available at the beach. Staff are friendly, although seem to have no authority or support. I would not go back to this resort, nor recommend it to anyone else.

 Not bad for the money.

The resort is showing it's age. Despite that the rooms and food are not bad. The staff are friendly and tipping definitely improves the service. It's well located for excursions.

 Allegro Puerto Plata

Where do I begin ... lets see, it rained the first three days I arrived. Can't blame that on the hotel though, but I had to find something else to do. Unfortunately, it wasn't take a relaxing hot soak in the tub! The water never ran hot, in fact it barely ran at all, except for through the roof, on the bed and down the walls. I was ok with the rain running down the walls and pooling on the floor because it was better than the alternative of landing on my pillow which happened to my fellow travellers. The first three days they changed rooms three times. That can get confusing for everyone. As for exercising, well, the 'gym' was rather musty, but I did get to move quickly as I learned how to jump in and out of a cold shower very fast. The secret was to be careful exiting because the toilet leaked. Good thing it only leaked when the toilet was flushed because, luckily, it didn't always flush! No worries, I could spend my time at the all-you-can-eat buffet, although I realized after my trip when sitting by passengers on the flight home that I had missed out! You see, at their resort they enjoyed lobster tail in their buffet while I dined on a variety of cabbage or bean salads. There were some chicken dishes that were quite tastey from time to time. Speaking of chickens, the security at the hotel is another consideration for a traveller. One evening, I returned to my room to find that an intruder had been there. Nothing had been taken from my room, on the contrary, it had been added. The stranger sat on the bed, smoked two cigarettes, dumped the ashes on the floor, left the almost full cigarette package behind, room key and two dollar tip. How nice! When the front desk was called about this incident they said that they were aware of the situation, the 'person' was removed and all was ok. OK??? Who decides this? Anyway, a report was done the following day after reporting it to the Tour Agent on the premises. Needless to say, I do not know what the findings were, although I was assured it was 'ok'. However, I was lucky because while my intruder only smoked cigarettes while resting on my bed, another guest was busy 'taking down' the two Dominican women who were robbing him when he entered his room. Unfortunately, security was not around, one of the females was quite feisty so he released her, but was able to obtain the bag she was filling at the time. With all this excitement one would need a drink ... Too bad the bar closed at 1am. Sitting in the dark with no lights on was a first for me at a resort. I'm glad I didn't trip heading back to my room in the dark. Good news, at least I wasn't swimming in the pool because that closed nightly at 6pm. Had I brought my kids, they would have been disappointed. So these were my highlights of my trip ... you be the judge for yourself whether you would want to spend your 'hard earned & saved' money here!

 Good value

It's a basic no frills resort but it offered everything we were looking for. And for the price we paid, it exceeded our expectations. Good food, great beach and nice staff (for the most part). I recommend the buffet over the a la carte restaurants. Also, they did not have too many healthy snacks in between meals. Otherwise, it was a great vacation and would return again!

 Amazing stay at Allegro!

The staff and services really made you feel welcomed and at home at a beautiful cosy
Resort. The grounds where the hotel is are very safe and the "it zone" activities nolitours provided were a great touch! Especially the white party on the beach and happy hour! The entertainment team is what made this place so much fun for all ages!

 Beautiful Beach

This is my second stay at the Allegro and loved it. The beach is great, the food was good, and the people exceptionally kind. My only beaf was the number of drunks around the bar areas. I suspect when things are all inclusive, people over-indulge.

 Good Dollar Value

Nice grounds, decent food with a good variety. Dated hotel rooms could use alot of upgrading. Pool area could also use updating and install proper deck area. Staff were relatively friendly but not what I ususally receive from Dominicans. Many timeshare reps onsite perhaps harrassing others but I made it clear I was not interested and simply igonred them. Bar drinks were ok but were using inexpensive alcohol.
