As expected. being there 6th time. staff great and food was good. room clean. had a great time. The only think I didn't like the ride from the air port by bus. they drive fast and crazy. going to hotel and coming home. the bus driver should drive normal speed. if i don't go back to bahia principe is for that reason.I was stressed out because of the bus ride going and coming home.

 Terrible trip

Horrible. Hotel is now closed for a MUCH needed renovation. It makes you recommend what group to go to this or it will not post it. I would not recommend anyone to go there.

 Bahia Principe ok

Gym bien. Site très propre.

 Good for the price!!!

Good place for the money we spent! Would recommend it for couples or big groups. It's a good place however food is the same everyday
But we had fun!
Lots of Mosquitos though so be prepared! And bring a stroller cuz the rooms are far from everything!

 Spring vacation - April 2012

The hotel is a little dated but very clean and organized. We had hot hot water and good water pressure in our room but some of our friend did not it was hit and miss. The beds are a little on the hard side and the pillows are a little thin. Rooms do come with a power bar hidden under one of the night stands to plug in all your gadgits to charge. The lock and key style door to your room can be a pain. A card key is what I prefer. The bar fridge in our room was well stocked everyday with a bottle of water, 2 bottles of pop, and 2 cans of BRAMA beer(really harsh tasting though)! A room on the 2nd floor is best especially if it is hurrican season to avoid your room from being flooded with water. We stayed in room 2613 (2nd floor) which was quite lovely. The steps leading up to the rooms are very slippery so BE careful my husband took a good wipe out going down the steps. The staff was super friendly and spoke very good english. they where willing to help out if you had any issues. The public washrooms around the resort where well kept. If you tipped the cleaner they would service you eveytime you went to the bathroom (kinda nice to sit on a freshly wiped/sanatized toilet seat)! The resort itself can accomodate up to 1000 people as it is quite large. The food was average not really anything quite special to be frank. Very disappointed the seafood restaurant closed down) there was not much seafood at all. Shrimp would have been a bonus a a regualr item on the buffet. The coffee is great and the variety of drinks (including slushy style ones)was just super. The beer was not the best a little on the harsh side. Presidente brand beer found off the resort is the way to go priced at just $3/US per 700ml bottle. Excursions where a little pricy but worth it if you would like a safe way to travel about the Dominican to experience their culture. The resort is located in the middle of nowhere and you are limited to the shops located within the resort based on the safety issues of traveling off the property. There is WIFI access in selected locations on the resort but do not get your hopes up that you will get a connection. We have iphones through Rogers and had a hard time connecting. friends with Blackberries on Bell and Telus had issues as well. The beach is not the best as they have huge wave breakers in the water that changes the natural flow of the ocean causing the sand to be on the muddy side. I recommend traveling down the beach to the right over the little bridge where the water is crystal clear and the sand is much lighter without all the mud especially if you like to snorkle. Go with a group of people (with some good strong men) though as this is not recommended by the resort because it is not safe (the crime rate is high in this area) Over all this hotel is just ok and I would say it is more like a high 3 star rather than 4. It was just missing those little extras that would have made it a 4 star for sure.
It was a little under our expectations in some areas but over in others :) and we will go back for sure but it would have to be for a cheaper rate than what we paid.

 Bad experience

The resort itself was very nice, other than run down rooms, the food was excellent. However, we are none smokers and we felt there was no excape for us. We could not enjoy ourselves. The restaurant was none smoking and that was comfortable. Even worse we are full of mosquito bites and have no idea where we got them. We have been back two days and we are still going crazy from the bites. Because of the smoking and the bites I would never go back, not even if it was free. Also I didn't find them friendly at all, especially the tour rep, who was very abrupt. Our arrival was very disorganized. Nobody knew what to do and sent us to the wrong place. It was a very bad experience. I have been going to Mexico for many years and I have never complained about anything, my husband and I always try to make the best of everything and are not complainers but this was very difficult for us so I feel we should advise you of this place. Also the sight said it is 40 min on a bus however, it take an hour and a half with two stops on a run down bus, totally unexceptable, they had a good bus for the Diamond people, and they passed us on the way, we didn't know we had to pay extra to be treated properly. We felt like second class citizens because we weren't with the Diamond club, which we knew nothing about b4 going. I feel I have wasted my vacation and my money.

 Excellent Experience!

Everything you need was on the resort - restaurants, entertainment, drinks and a large area to take walks on.

The workers were very helpful and friendly. They did everything to make us happy and were not pushy.

I would definitely recommend the Bahia Principe San Juan!!!

 We'll be back

Having been here back in 2003 I knew what to expect but I must say that the food has improved and so has the English of the staff. The rooms are a little worn but for the amount of time you spend in there so what as long as the bathroom and bed is ok. Best kept secret is the Diamond Club upgrade that we went with this time, room key, bracelet, and registration was all done on the bus trip to the hotel and upon arrival it was directly to your room with beach towels, slippers, bathrobes and mini bar ready to go and the room was right on the ocean within 100 yards if that. We had a late flight arriving at the hotel at 12:30am and the bellboys brought us a few extra beers for a small tip. If you go Diamond Club you have access to 2 other private pools and a bar between them. The other bonus is the private use of the Italian Rest. for breakfast and lunch, the breakfast is a tamed down version of the main buffet and good but lunch was like a a la carte; rack of lamb, grilled chicken with beef and veggies, lobster and grouper, etc.!!!! The a la cartes at the Italian, Mexican and Mediterainean were all great with the Med. being the best. Drinks at all the bars were good but varied slightly with each bartender. Those mysterious mosquitoe bites are acually sand fleas so after a rain stay away from the shaded areas of the beach, use the beach showers and don't bring towels into the room or beach bags, leave them hanging on the balcony railing and bring fly spray if required. Here is a health tip, avoid the swim up bar at the main pool, people will sit there for hours and never leave their seat and well you know what I mean, you can smell it sometimes. This trip we traveled with our son & girlfriend (28 yrs.old), parents (82 yrs. old) and us (55 yrs. old)and there was something for everyone to do. Once again the staff were very accommadating for our parents providing extra water in the room and a late check-out since our bus did not leave until 7pm. In summary; great food and drinks, weather, staff, no local venders on the entire resort and felt very safe, great value for your money. We will be back

 Bahi Principe San Juan

I really don't have any complaints about this hotel. If your looking for a 5 star go some place else. The food was good. I'm sure the picky eaters would find something to eat. Hotel/rooms were clean. Staff were very friendly and more then helpful. Activities staff were friendly and entertaining. Evening shows were good not exceptional. Sand flies in the morning especially after a night rain fall, don't put your beach bag and towels on your bed if you don't want bed bugs. Overall for a quick vacation at the price we paid i would go back.

 Excellent Vacation

I enjoyed the hotel. This was my first vacation to another country. The food was well presented and a good variety. I felt even the pickiest of eaters could find something to eat. To me the location was excellent. Not a big city with a beach it was rural with a very long beach. The staff are excellent the service was good the hotel was very clean. The entertainers were good the shows were a 3 but the entertainers a 5...I understand they dont have any creative input. I loved the location of the beach bars and pools spread out on the resort and the resort had a taxi service within for those that didnt enjoy the walk.

 AVOID AT ALL COSTS

We had a horrible, horrible experience at this hotel. #1 is that either the maid or the guy the puts water in the fridge stole our Rogers internet stick costing us $1,300.00 in usage. Who is responsible for this theft? We couldn't believe this could happen. We had it deep down in our suitcase, in other words, the person who stole it dug deep
and we feel extremely violated. Before we got robbed of this item, the guy that puts water in the fridge, I had only met once as we were always out when he would come and that one time was when I was in the bathroom doing my business, he knocked once and came barging in, found out I was in the bathroom with the door closed, he stood in front of the door and when I came out, he was still standing there waiting to get a tip but I didn't have any money on me, so he left. He didn't replace the empty bottle and we didn't have water for 2 days, we had to call reception to send someone to bring water and that took another day. Then, their ad re karaoke is a farce as everytime we went, the machine was
always "not working", and the main reason we booked that particular hotel was for the KARAOKE. And the shows were terrible (except for the Michael Jackson show), people prancing around on stage like kids(choreography was bad), miming (like Milli Vanilli). Front desk was rude and not friendly, only helpful if they benefited. Going in the water was frightening, full of seaweeds, our friend stepped on an urchin that made her foot swell for a couple of days. Things in the room were falling apart like the towel racks, a hole in the bathtub that our friend's foot got caught in and lighting was poor. And we thought that the resort was in Puerto Plata but instead in a remote town called San Juan, way away from Puerto Plata, if we had known that, we wouldn't have booked this hotel as we specified we wanted to go to Puerto Plata. Very unfortunate for us, we had this horrible experience. We travelled with another couple that time but most times, there are about 4 to 6 couples that travel together once or twice a year and because of this horrible experience, we would never recommend this hotel. As to the usage costs of our Rogers internet speed stick, is the hotel going to own up to it? Where can I send the bill?
