 Tuxpan

Bonjour,

 Trip to Varadero

Tuxpan is a small resort that suited our needs. We have been there several times and we enjoy the staff as they are very friendly and want to ensure that you have a good vacation.

 Tuxpan hotel, Varadero, Cuba

This was my first trip to Cuba and the experience, for me , was great. The hotel location, it is clean and quiet. At this moment, I wanted quiet.
the room was as expected, I missed a radio to listen to local music. The food was good, it was varied. I would have prefered more fish.In the buffet area, the morning staff were not very helpfull, some looked like they wanted to be somewhere else. I had to get my own coffee most of the time. For the supper, everything was OK. The wine was good. I did bot starve. The evening shows were quite amazing. The quality of the dancers was impressive, they could perform on the international scene.Every night, a different show, excellent and the dancers looked like they loved what they were doing.
Finally the beach was perfect, unlike some other hotels were the beach was smaller and crowded.

 As expected

We had been told about this place by friends. We were for warned that it was smaller and older. It ended up to be as expected. The place is showing some age but is clean and comfortable. As other reviews have noted the beach, and staff are great. Did not see anywhere for internet access but we had anticipated that in Cuba. Also it seemed that you were expected to know things or had to ask for things like getting towels etc. Overall they could use some upgraded information package or signs around the resort.

Rooms - We had asked for a main floor room with a queen bed and got that (king actually). The room was basic but everything worked and it was clean. Beds are a bit hard but no different that ones we had stayed on in other places.

Food and restaurants - You do not go to Cuba for the fine dining. Expect to always in a line up for meals at the buffet. In fact the line up for the al a carte was smaller so we did that twice. Food was basic but good. The fish at the al a carte was good enough to order twice. We walked into Veradaro daily for exercise (about 3-4 k one way) and got a great pizza at El Dante restaurant in Parque Josone.
The signage on the food could use some improvement,

Bars and drinks - The beer tap at the beach bar was broken and had been for some time. The snack bar was only another 100 ft or so to walk. I am strictly a beer drinker but my wife had a few cocktails and said they were good. The coffee / cappuchino was great. No large pots here, it is brewed/served singly but we never had to wait long to get a decent cup of coffee

Layout and location - The entrance has quite a few stairs and the ramp is kind of out of the way to get to with a high sidewalk to get up onto for those who have trouble with their bags. This is not a place for anyone who has trouble getting around. The pool is newer but still showing age with broken edges in a few locations.
The hotel is very close to the golf course >1k and to downtown Veradaro. You can walk into Veradaro on the road or the beach, There is always some entertainment on the road with the various old cars, taxi drivers and hundreds of different scooters/bikes

We will not likely be going back but that is really because we want to try a few different places and countries. Overall i would say it was OK and as expected. I would not discourage anyone from going.

 Tuxpan is alright

We enjoyed our stay at this very average resort . The rooms and building are cosmetically in need of touch ups. If you enjoy your time on the beach or at the pool the bars are well located to make sure you stay hydrated. To get to the buffet or pool you must take stairs,a problem if you have difficulty with mobility. A handful of rooms don't have balconies so make sure to get a balcony. The evening entertainment will keep you awake until 11:30 if your room is facing the ocean, unless you are indulging in the show and dancing.

We expected blah food but were pleasantly surprised with a decent tasting variety of dishes. The buffet patio is presently being renovated so eating space was smaller and a short wait in line to get in was normal.

The staff, pools and beach are unbeatable. Chairs were always available at the pools or beach.

The bus stop to get to town is a 3 minute walk. A taxi from the front door to town will run about 5 cuc each way.

Overall this resort is average. Not awful and not outstanding. Good value for average expectations.

 Go elsewhere

The beach and pool were great. The food was what cuban food is. The staff at the pool, bar and restaurant were friendly, helpful and pleasant to deal with. The reception was awful. We upgraded to the VIP package and upon arrival realised the resort had not been informed of this. When we pointed this out the receptionist took a photocopy of our VIP documents and said he would get back to us. When asked to have the originals back to show our travel agent the next day but he refused to return them. After arguing with him he gave them back, crumpled up the photocopy and threw his arms in the air indicating he didn`t care. After repeated complaints to our travel agent we received our dinner, bottle of rum and turndown service for the last few days. We did not get our oceas view room, welcome gift or coctail, and had to fight for our late checkout after being locked out of our room on the final day. There are much better resorts in Cuba. Not hard to find a better one than Tuxpan.

 Hotel acceptable

Bonjour,

4.5 stars for the price of 3 stars

Flawless establishment. Hotel is a little aged, however really elegant and well maintained. Clientele mostly mature 30 and lots of retired folks, so it is possible to actually rest peacefully. With Cuba recently repossessing the Hotel from the hands of Mexican owner, food recently got much improved. With more varieties, tons of fresh fish, best shrimps ever, chicken, roasted turkey, pork, (some beef), fresh fuits, tons of pastries cakes, salad bar, amazing coffee quality! Ingredients are mostly locally produced and cooked from scratch at the hotel. No processed food, no preservatives, no msg, no pesticides. Junk food addicts may have a hard time to get their FIX. Rooms and bath rooms are average. The mattresses are in very good shape and may feel a little hard for some people, which perhaps indicate that your bed at home is just too soft. You can request a foam topper at the front desk. Best portion of the beach of the whole 26km strip, which is quiet and very large, so never too crowded. If you want crowded you'll find it nearby. Clear water, pure white sand, not a shark area, shallow waters up 100ft off shore, dosen't get any deeper than 6 metres till 6km off shore. Watch the section of the beach before and around little cliff on east side, amazing little reef to snorkle to, at less than 75 feet away from shore. Gentle sea life! (bring your snorkel kit, you will lose your mind watching the schools of colourful fish). Free catamaran ride, pedal boat, kayak. Beautiful lanscape area around hotel building(Various mature trees plants, no insects), 2 tennis courts, Outstanding pool area including 4 pools, outdoor spa, aqua-bar and a 24hr7days snack-bar inclusive(hamburgers fries etc) by the pool. Infinite amount of resting area inside and around the hotel, two vasts lobbies, hotel bar, beach bar, night club, Everynight Shows featuring amazing High caliber beautiful dancers. (we were there 14 nights and seen 14 differents amazing shows), day time entertainment, omnipresent security on resort, and beach patrol. You can walk all you want off the resort on the road, without any worries. Cuba is known to be the safest beach destination in the world and it surely feels like it. 4.5km nice walk to varadero town, or a short 5$ taxi ride or a all day 5$ bus pass (exclusive for resorts residents). Go there during the week days starting from noon. The life at that time is gorgeous. Met lots of couples who went to Tuxpan hotel more than ten times!
Fluent english, spanish and functional in french, the staff is friendly and yet, very professionnal. Please, you are getting the cheapest deal ever, keep in mind that the staff is making a living with the tip money. If you tip anything between 25cents to a dollar to everybody that you are dealing with (room maids, barmaids doorman, etc) you will be extremely appreciated by the staff and truly respected, and at the and of the day it will coat you like 5$, and it's still the cheapest deal ever! Money exchange office on site.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Tuxpan Resort and honeslty recommend it to anyone.

 Vraiment belle vacance !!

 Mes pires vacances a vie!!

 Nice stay

Third time in Cuba. Third different hotel. Overall very good. I liked the many bars and pools. Shows were very simple. Beach was great. The food was plentiful and good (of course you must like fish, pork and chicken). The rooms were clean. It wasn't perfect by any means but I'd go back.

 Nice place to stay.

Very friendly staff - if you are a repeat customer you get some nice benefits - example - a private dinner, a bottle of rum when you first get there, a courtesy room if you need to stay longer after check out on your departure day - the beach is beautiful - unfortunately we had a wind storm and cold front for three days; couldn't be on the beach at all then - otherwise it is beautiful and easy to swim in that water. They have no wi-fi so that is a problem; staff very friendly and nice- I would return again.

 Disappointment

This is not the resort to bring your children to, as there is no 'Kids Club' to speak of. We ran into several other families who believed that they would be getting organized activities for their children to participate in, like at other resorts boasting a 'Kids Club', who were as disappointed as we were. Even when my six year old tried to play along with the minimalist daily activities, he was told he was too young (games around the pool) or was ushered off the court (beach volleyball) by the animation team. Unlike any other resort I've been to in Cuba. We feel like the victims of a fraud. And although there is a 'clubhouse' on the property that appeared to have a pool and ping pong table, it was locked for the seven days of our vacation. All very disappointing, considering our agent persuaded us to select the Tuxpan after we expressed our specific desires for opportunities in the day for our child to be involved in activities organized specifically to entertain kids and give the grown-ups a chance to relax.

 Great value for the price

We purchased the VIP package which ensured a room facing the beach. There was a fridge in the room that was stocked daily with beer sodas and water.
The matress had a foam topper and was comfortable. No charge for in-room safe and a coupon was provided for beach towels.Maid service was good and the room was clean.
The buffet became repetitive after 2 weeks but there was always fish, chicken and either beef or pork cooked on the griddle. Service was good with wine and beer available. Some evenings there was live music. We also used the ala carte restaurants which were both ok.Depending on what time you went for dinner there was a line up.The pools were generally kept clean and there were plenty of sun loungers available both in the sun and in the shelters.
The beach was cleaned daily and the beach bar was adequate.
In general the bar service was good with or without tips.Staff were very friendly and helpful and most had an understanding of english.
We will most likely return to the Tuxpan next time we go to Varadero

 Early Winter

We had a nice time. The only real complaint I could have would be the variety of meals at the buffet. Same thing everyday does get a bit tedious. We upgraded our room when we got there to an ocean view for only 60 pesos. Very good value.

 Tuxpan Varadero

My overall experience at this resort was great, but ANYTIME that I had to deal with the front desk, it was awful! I purchased a VIP package at this hotel and had to ask twice to receive it! I was not given a top floor suite, nor a king size bed as per my request, etc. The front desk was always very difficult to deal with and they didn't care...

 Smoky Tuxpan Resort Varadero

The Tuxpan is a nice enough resort. In need of some repairs to the rooms. Lovely and welcoming lobby. The biggest problem at this resort is the smoking. It is extremely hard to get away from it. They have tried in the past but smokers ignore any signs that are posted. Food quality and variety was typical for Cuba. Staff were always helpful. Bring you own facecloths as they don't provide any. Also, the beds are very hard. Ask for the foam topper. If you like to have a Bailey's or another liqueur, bring your own. They don't have any.
