 Cuba 1st Time

It was our 1st time to Cuba and after reading some negative reviews of this country - food, people - we found this is not the case. You get what you pay for!!! The people are warm etc.. and live off tips so be kind and if the service is good - TIP. I would recommend this resort

Had fun but a few weaknesses

Hotel not bad, needs maintainence, too much walking. Drunks yelling screaming all night in halls and rooms. No security. Most staff freindly. Bell boys do not speak much english. Lots of french canadians there, so picked up more French than Spanish. You have to walk up to 1km for you coffee in morning
.Like i said earlier, lots of walking!

 A good trip

1st time to Cuba. Food was as expected, same as other all inclusives, buffet food was ok gets tiresome by 3rd day. The ala carte resaurants were better than I expected based on what others reported about food in Cuba. The beach resaurant always had fresh grilled shrimp or chicken and I ate there during the day. The Staff was extremely friendly. The beach was really nice and I enjoyed the pools a lot both the quiet and the activity. the pools were very well maintained. I was near the beach which was great but made for a long trek to get my morning coffee. the cafe and grill at the pool and beach end did not open til 10 am. The entertainment in the evening was very good, better than I expected. This trip for me was trip with a friend (girls only trip)but I would definately consider going back with my family (husband and 3 kids)as it seemed to be a family friendly resort.

Highly recommend this resort to families with kids

We enjoyed our stay at Sirenas La Salina. There was a good variety in food. Staff were pleasant. Our rooms were clean. The beach would have been perfect if there were no sea weeds in the sand.

 Fantastic Vacation

Our family stayed at the Sirenis La Salina from Dec 31- Jan 7th and it was fantastic. Our children had a blast swimming in the pool and ocean all week. Our room had an ocean view, was clean and best of all had no bugs. We spent most of our time at the quiet pool where the staff and guests made our vacation memorable. The food exceded our expectations and there was something for everyone, my favourite was the roast turkey while the kids enjoyed the hot dogs and pasta station. Everything was great and we are talking about staying at the Sirenis La Salina again next year during Christmas break.

 GOOD PEOPLE BAD SERVICE

the excursions were expensive and they lied to me and told me they'd mail me my refund
they didnt have a lifejacket for my daughter available when i went to the dolphinarium and they proceeded to start the dolphin swim without us
food was okay - could be better
phone didnt work
i had to go all the way to the lobby and request that someone come clean my room and get towels all the time
showers leaked every time we took a shower - water leaked into the room and soiled our stuff
completely ruined my shoes
beaches werent clean - losts of broken shells - we got cut on the bottom of our feet from them
people were nice
they need more hop-and-go cabs because they only had 2 at a time and they took like 15minutes plus to get you so you ended up walking or being late
they tried to steal my money, charge me for things i didn't use, like charged me for the safe when i never used it.
they lied to me about the cost per minute of making calls and i ended up with a $65 peso ($75can) phone bill when we only made 2 calls. they charge $2/3 for calls that didnt even go through.
The nolitours company that booked the dolphin thing owe me almost $200 and the hotel owes me $50 for over charging the calls.
Very poor service and when u finally do get a hold of them on the phone, they rush you off and dont help you.
i want my refund immediately.

 About average

Friendly staff but slow, clean room but needs updating, food quality average but lacks flavour, bars are plenty but poor mixology, excellent lobby cafe. Beach was fairly clean but the water sports staff weren't helpful to a novice wind surfer. Restaurants on resort were terrible, the food had very little flavour but the friendly staff made it bearable. If you plan on leaving the resort to visit Varadero, this location is not ideal. Patience is required for getting around and cheaper car & scooter rentals can be found in downtown Varadero.

 Dec 17 stay

Not recommended..the whole family (16 ppl) had diarriah. Bathroom wasn't clean and smelled. Saw cockroaches in bathroom and got more than 20 mosquito bites everyone. Bedsheets were never changed. No beach towels for exchange for the whole week! Food was not well cooked. No activities for younger children...Service was average...

 Beautiful vacation!

We just returned from this resort, and we were so happy with our vacation! It was my husband, myself, and our 2 children, ages 2 and 5, that were travelling. We would highly recommend this resort to others. Don't believe all the negative reviews out there. I was a bit nervous going there because of these negative reviews, but after being there for a week, I now realize that these reviews were written by negative people. The people in Cuba are absolutely wonderful. So friendly, kind and make you feel like you are their friends. There are lots of activities to do with the kids. The shows were awesome. You don't want to miss them! The pools were fabulous! They were clean, beautiful and fun. The reviews about Boris the bartender are true! He was so nice, and the kids loved him! The a la carte (we did the BBQ, French and Japanese) were very good. I had very low expectations about the food after reading so many negative reviews. I actually enjoyed the food. There was always something I found to enjoy, as did my kids. My husband was really impressed with the Japanese and French restaurants. But, keep in mind, you don't go to Cuba for the food, you go for the beaches, the weather and the people. The beach was gorgeous. The room was clean, and the ladies that cleaned it were wonderful about helping us with whatever we needed. Our TV didn't work when we checked in, and it was replaced within the hour for us. The fridge was restocked everyday. Remember, you spend very little time in your room anyway. The gardeners did a great job with the beautiful grounds. Whenever they saw the kids they would make animals and flowers for them out of palm leaves! They are very talented! Don't hesitate booking this resort. You won't be disappointed, unless you are negative to begin with. The little things that people might view as an inconvenience are not worth ruining your vacations over. Like the pool towels, so instance. We found them in our rooms when we checked in, and there were never any clean towels to trade them with at the pool throughout the week. In the end, not that big a deal. Also, as for the size of the resort, yes, it is huge. But we forgot our 2 year old's stroller back home, and we were completely fine without it. She enjoyed walking, and the golf carts came around and picked us up when we felt like taking them. Overall, a fabulous vacation. We will join the many other vactioners that we met who have returned to La Salina several times. We definitely plan to return!

I do recommend tipping when you receive great service (which was all the time for us!). The people really appreciate it, as their wages are really low. Also, tipping with personal grooming items is greatly appreciated too (soap, hair gel, lipstick, etc.). At the end of our week, we left all of our hair mousse, sunscreen, bugspray, children bandaids, clothes we didn't want, etc. The people were so thankful to us. It made me appreciate all the luxuries we take for granted in Canada.

 Hola!

Mother nature was not on our side. However, the hotel served its purpose. The food is tipycal Cuban (tasteless and over cooked) but that was expected. Bring your condiments and your peanut butter. That will ease the pain.It worked for us. Clean hotel. Be careful at the Bank when changing money. They are not too transparent about the rate exchange and what is the fee.

 Huge Resort

The resort is extremely big. A lot of walking to get from beach to the buffet to your room. There are shuttles and come somewhat frequently like 10-15mins. We did read reviews about all the walking, so we knew what we were getting ourselves into. We were on vacation, no rush to get anywhere, so enjoy the leisurely strolls or wait for the shuttle. Food was not bad. There was always something to safe to eat. We read reviews the food was horrible and we do not agree. It was decent. The a la cartes were not bad. We had Italian (6 out of 10) and the Mediterranian (8 out of 10) We heard the Japanese was really good, it is a teppanyaki table. Beach was amazing. weather awesome. People super nice and friendly. Our Suite was nice, great view of ocean. Bugs in the evenings were bad, I got many bites. Must remember to bring bug spray next time. Bring your own beach towels too. They NEVER have any beach towels to exchange, always making excuse about delay in laundry, etc. When you have a problem or need something, go to your travel rep, dont bother with the front desk, they are absolutely useless.

 Beautiful beaches and poor service

I could hear the noise coming from the adjascent rooms. The flush system brake twice flooding the whole bathroom. The safe is charged extra. People only give attention to you if you tip them first (first you tip, then you get the service). The beach is beautiful
