 Allergo Varadero

Hotel was fine, but if you want to eat bring food and ketchup with you. Limited types of liquor.

Good resort for low budget vacation

The 2 first nights, we had a room with dirty floors, safe not functional, no water in mini bar and toilet didn't flush. We were able to change rooms after 2 nights following the intervention of our sunwing rep and were very happy afterwords. Our room was very clean but the rest of the resort and restaurants were not always adequately clean. Public bathrooms rarely had toilet paper.

 ALLEGRO VARADERO

It was okay. food as expected for cuba with some specials on weekend. weekends are really busy. more people show up and line ups for buffet as well as line up inside for food. Beach is great and water is nice.We arrived at 1130am only to be told no rooms ready till 4pm.
It is a big resort that have two hotels linked on it. one side were Itallians who were as rude and ignorant as hell. MMany french canadian at resort so brush up your language skills. Lots of spainish. I was a little shocked to see that in Varadero which is the most popular tourist destination with teh best of everything on how little the suff at the resort spoke english.
Not sure if i would go back again

 Great Time at Allegro

Front desk very helpful and friendly. Great location. Resort was clean, buffet was well stocked for the amount of people staying at the resort. Room was great, bed was comfortable and always had lots of hot water and the shower head had great pressure. Wait staff and bartenders worked very hard to try and please everyone. Would definately return to this resort.

 Solid 3 start resort

This was our 2nd trip to Varadero, stayed at Breezes Varadero previously, in last 12 months so we knew what to expect. Allegro is a good 3 star hotel as compared to others in Cuba, DR and Mexico, food was better than at Breezes but service was worse, drinks selection and preparation was poor as compared to Mexican resorts but average for Cuba. Bar and dinner staff would ignore you do not tip regularly. Many mosquitoes near bar and buffet due to proximity of small fish ponds. We had no issues with front desk staff, hot water was available ~70% of the time and the beds were rock hard but that was expected. One section of resort is limited to an Italian tour company and the balance is occupied by Russians, other Spanish speaking people, Quebeckers and English speaking Canadians, in that order. We stayed in the main building and found it quiet and the room was a typical 3 star. For the price it was fine but I would not pay more as for the same money you can get always find a deal in Mexico which has better food and rooms but is more crowded. We would stay here again if the price was right.

 Allegro Varadero Experience

The ground is very large and reasonably maintained. The beach is excellent with clear turquoise coloured water. There was live music for dancing in the open deck from 7:30-8; 8:30-9pm for three nights during our stay. However, only two bath towels, there is no face cloth, hand towel nor bath mat provided. There is no tissue paper in the room either.

It seems like every year its getting worse & worse

The hotel is definitely three stars not four, dated and needs maintenance here and there.

However, generally speaking, considering the fact its Cuba, the hotel is okay for three star casual vacation. Don’t expect more than that.

Problems that I experienced in the Allegro:

1. 45 min waiting time in line to check in; only one receptionist was available to deal with the whole bus of tourists. The person was extremely slow and inefficient.

2. All staff in the hotel constantly is looking for tips. If not given, the service is slow and unpleasant with “the attitude”; maids, waiters, bartenders. Because no-tips were given on the first two days, our room was not done till 5:00PM...

3. Almost all bartenders were constantly tipsy; looking at you with glassy, red eyes most of the times; even in the early morning while making cappuccinos at the pool bar. Also talking with coworkers was absolutely priority for them; very little courtesy for the guests... On many occasions I felt like Im there just to please them with tips and eventually small gifts; idea of swift and efficient service was totally secondary thing among most of the staff.

4. Mentioned above cappuccino and other hot drinks were served in all bars in thiny-winny plastic cups that usually have been used for the cold drinks. I thought the cup with coffee inside would melt in my hands; you have to wrap the cup with paper napkin, otherwise you burn yourself. Ive never seen something like that. It was so lack of class; especially in the establishment that promotes itself as a four star.

5. Strong, kind of sour food odor at the entrance to the main buffet restaurant; inside darkish ambiance and all windows closed – not a chance for a nice breeze of fresh air while dinning. Waiter staff very slow to serve drinks and then clean and replenish tables.

6. Not enough chairs on the beach and many of those available were broken/ cracked.

7. The beach, although very nice by nature, not cleaned from the sea weeds and sharp pieces of stones/ sea shells.

8. All seniors and guys with physical disability should be aware that Allegro is a hotel/ resort with many stairs around; not wheelchair user friendly.

Conclusion: Allegro is not a place where I would like to go again, unless certain changes happen.

 Allegro Varadero Resort

Not trying to complaint but i am comparing this with the other resorts we have been to but these are the points we noticed in this place:
Very poor customer service and not friendly stuff, i can easily say 95% of the staff are ignorant and rude, the front desk people are the worst and in buffet they don,t even talk to you (again some of the servers are very nice.
I don't think i will go back there again, we have been in 5 different places and this one was the worst, the best place is cayo coco and houlgin.

 Allegro Varadero

This is our 9th trip to an all inclusive resort and it has been our worst experience ever . This worst experience is based on the fact of what I have seen and recieved at other 4 star resorts .This resort is ranked as a 4 star but is no more then a 3 star .Resort is dated and tired . Some workers are friendly and others dont look at you . Language is also an issue with some employees . Buffet restaurant is nice but is disorganized .Buffet doesnt open until 7:00 am , 12:30 pm and 6:30pm which ends up causing a huge crowd at door and a long slow line up inside . We over heard many references (and moo-ing )stating we were like a heard of cows slowly moving through the gates (doors)while employee stood at door laughing and shaking her head . Employees were slow on replenishing plates , glasses , food trays and containers. When we sat at tables , they were not always cleaned off or were lacking utensils ,napkins etc etc . Beach was ok but could of been better as there was alot of cracked / broken chairs , garbage and raking of beach was only partly done once in a while. For this trip we ended up paying $723.00 / pp . Because of this and the fact that we were not at resort every day , we were able to make the best of it. To be fair ,most employees did the best they could do with what they are given. My feeling is that the responsibilty to correct this lies with the hotel management and Occidential. We booked this trip through I travel 2000 and we were led to believe that it was a nice resort and that it is also listed on their site as a''Top Resort'' This I feel is a bit misleading. My last disappointment is the tipping requests . I found it to be worst this time around , not only at the resort but on all of our day trips . You even have to pay / tip to use the washroom at the airport. I will not go back to this resort in the future .

This is a 3.5 star hotel

We did have a great vacation but had a few issues with the resort..When we got to our room the key wouldn't work..They had to call the tech to come and change the battery which we had to wait 15 min or more. The room itself was nice and clean however the maid only made one bed and there were 3 of us in the room and didn't leave any towels or clean glassed..we had to call reception to ask for the towels..they ran out of a lot of things...cards for the internet...plastic utensils for use outside and lunch in order to eat at the pool...The beach was awesome however the chairs not so...They were the plastic chairs and most were broken..The pool had nice chairs but we are beach people..The food was edible and you could always find something to eat that you like...Went to one ala carte but did not like it much so stuck to the buffet...Not sure if we would go back to that resort unless we got a really good deal but definitely would go back to Varadero...

Friendly staff - Great Beach - the rest..........?

This is my second visit to the resort and my fourth visit to Cuba. I am not sure if it was just bad timing or if the resort has gone down-hill in the last 12 months but I travelled here last March Break (same week) and the food and cleanliness was 80 percent better than this visit. Staff as friendly as usual at Front Desk and Lobby Bar, other bars HORRIBLE. No french fries all week (a must if you have been to CUBA), no drinks in mini bar - no cans of beer AT ALL, no complimentary bottle of rum (worth 2 pesos!) as was supplied last year. Lobby Bar staff EXCEPTIONAL! Front Desk changed my room as I requested as it was not appropriate location or size for my family (me and two children under 12- in section that included 100 high-school students on a S-Trip!!!)

 Better than Expected!

I have heard alot've negatives about resorts in Cuba...so went expecting the worst...this one was great! We had a nice bungalow room (clean and fairly new) close to the ocean overlooking the bluff (oceanview) it was fine...close to the adult pool/swim up bar...far from the main building. The food was ok...not FABULOUS but ok...we only had problems with our room key (magnetic) rarely worked...had to walk all the way back to the main building several times during the week...they never did fix it correctly...eventually we just gave up and snuck in through our balcony door (which you could unlock the chain very easily...which was a bit too easy but we didn't feel unsafe as there was security overnight nearby) I think I would try a 5 star next time in hopes the food would be FABULOUS! But overall...I would recommend it!

 Varadero, Allegro

Hotel staff are the Best! The hotel is clean, although in need of "minor" cosmetic repairs. Electrical plug in is 220 Volt, not compatible with Canadian plugs.
Sadden to say, there are no coffee pots in the rooms.
Close to Varadero bus and easily accessible to bus.
This seems to be the safest resort and area I've ever experienced. Local people hitch hike without fear. We were did not feel pressured to purchase anything.
Beautiful beach, although we are pool people.
Seems like they produce the "minimum" with everything though.
Only allowed 1 bottle of water per day.
No toilet paper outside of rooms, anywhere. (I consider this to be a necessity)
Food was a colosol dissappointment.
Loved the location, our room was cleaned every day, to our liking. And as I said, staff are the best.

A great place at a reasonable price

Generally we had a very positive experience. The staff were excellent. Many facilities and activities were available and the beach and ocean swimming were wonderful.

Food: We found the buffet selection excellent - lots of choice of fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood, bread, meats, etc. One caveat: if you expect gourmet food, you will be disappointed. Meals have reasonable quality basic food with many choices especially for fresh fruits and salads. Since we weren't expecting gourmet meals, this was just right for us. Often at dinner there was a band and singers. There are also three al a carte restaurants where the ambience is quieter, but the food is as good in the buffet.

The rooms were well-kept and our maid service was excellent. As in most developing countries, the level of maintenance is lower than one would expect for a 3 1/2 star resort hotel in Canada (e.g., the door to our room needed to be pushed to close properly; the air conditioner was either full on or off - the thermostat didn't work), but then you are paying a one-star price considering that virtually all amenities are included - food, alcoholic and other drinks, clean beach towels as often as you want, catamaran, kayak and small boat use, table tennis, beach volley ball, nice pool, etc.

A number of one and two-day excursions are available through tour operators to Havana and other locations in Cuba. Scuba diving and snorkelling are also options. These cost extra but the ones we went on were quite reasonable and well-run. Local double-decker busses have a regular route to the hotels and into the city of Varadero - $5 for a day’s pass that you can hop-on / hop-off as many times as you like. It is well worth the price.

 My dream trip

Overall we liked the hotel. Friendly staff, clean, good food. The light was not coming on as we checked in, it was taken care of as I called the front desk. Bathroom roof was leaking of rain water. Informed the maid. Nothing was done. The door to the balcony is fairly heavy. There is knob from outside. I closed it entirely and then I could not open it, as there was nothing to hold it from outside. Fortunately my wife was inside and she opened it. Otherwise
I would have to scream from fourth floor. The ocean view is incredible, its worth.

 Varadero Jan 13-20

Overall the hotel was great. The buffet food despite prior reviews was excellent. The breakfast buffet included fresh fruits including fresh fruit yogurt smoothies. Each buffet contained ample fresh veggies, cheeses, meats, breads. Ample selection of beef, chicken, fish. Fresh pasta station at lunch and in the evening. Breakfast contained an omellete station and eggs made to order. Service was good. Staff very friendly and accomodating. Bar staff were equally as friendly. Mojito's were available every other day it seemed. The pool was weel kept even though it is a big square (could be warmed slightly).
Negatives: Front desk they do not care about anyone it appeared. Common answer to all questions or requests "NO". Unhelpful, unpleasant and rude. A' LA Carte restuarants don't waste your time. Stick with the buffet better selection and quality and you do not have to make reservations. One of the a la carte had a shrimp and mushroom boat starter. Shrimp uncleaned, small and still had centre vein. The mushrooms were from a can and the pastry was burnt, dry and tasteless. Remainder of the meal was just as bad. All three a la carte selections were the same. This was not my first trip to Cuba and was shocked the buffet was better than the a la cartes. I should have taken pictures of the buffet selection each meal period and over the seven days. There was a different selection each day for each meal period. Cannot rave about it enough. Okay, back to negatives shower curtian had mold on it front desk completely unhelpful with that found a maid her brought a brand new one. Problem solved by no help of front desk staff. One day no hot water again no help no care from the front desk staff. Maid again, found maintenance man who solved the problem this was day 2 remaider of stay ample hot water. Again, issue resolved by no help of front desk staff. Rooms could use upgrading but I was only there to sleep and shower.
Overall great time..... bar staff, maids, maintenance and servers exceptional. Great beaches loved going to Varadero.
I hope this gets read by a manager at the hotel but according to the front desk staff one is either not available or they do not have one. Your front desk need to be trained or put a few practices in place that the other employees put into place daily. Booked online website does not have option displayed to upgrade package. Found out with a travel agent option is available.

Another Wonderful trip to Allegro Varadero

I love this place, Varadero city is only a 20 min. double decker bus ride away. This is our 2nd time to this resort and the staff are wonderful, they love children and are very polite. We did have a hard time finding a cleaned off table in the main buffet (which was not like that last year when we went). Oceanview rooms are beautiful. The beaches are clean and amazing. Lots of things to do and see...I recommend this resort

 Hotel does not match website!

First and foremost, the staff was superb. Hot water in our suite was not available, and showers were lukewarm or cold. One of the bathroom switches was intermittent and worked only 3 of 7 days despite informing the front desk. The food was fair, but the snack bars often had no food, and of the advertised three snack bars, only one was in operation. 3 pools (two quiet) were offered, but the large main pool was in operation, as one seems to have been given (sold) to a neighbouring Italian resort. (Italians only...) the other was not in operation and was dirty. The snack and swim up bar there was closed. The maid service was excellent and information regarding tours was readily available, and the tour representatives were helpful and informative. We did not go to the a la carte restaurants, as the menu was unpalatable. Sometimes it was difficult to eat anything other than pasta, as one of our party has a severe allergy to peppers (red, yellow, green). Much of the food was cooked in peppers. Lastly the evening entertainment started very late (9:30) and though the music changed, it was simply a dance recital for 7 nights.
