Good Time for a great price

Friendly accommodating staff (with the exception of one barman/waiter who often wore a frown and made you wait while he wiped down various things and kept himself looking busy while you are WAITING; my tips did not change his attitude either), not over crowded, beaches are a bit windy (great for kite surfing) with daily seaweed wash up but waters crystal clear and warm; very large pool with ample seating; great cafe bar; very clean rooms, no bugs, warm showers and friendly regulars at the hotel. Love that vouchers are available for hotel dinner hopping along the strip. Dining hall could use some sprucing up; more fresh veg should be available with meals. Overall a great place to stay on a budget. Don't forget to tip them if you like the service!

 Awesome!

We stayed here during April and had an amazing time! you can always walk around and see the other resorts it doesn't mean you are stuck there! You can rent mopeds or plan excursions from your front desk tour guide! The pool was really clean and as was our room! I would recommended this hotel for the right price!

 Great Cuban Vacation

For the cost of the trip it could have not been any better. The people are very nice. There are a couple other Resort's near Club Amigo, and everybody got together for the show and drinks at the disco. Very nice beach, but quite a bit of wind. The design of the buildings make it nice around the pool area. All in all the people were great and I would go back.

 Pleasant surprise

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the past few years. Our last visit was the most pleasant. We would not hesitate to return and to recommend the hotel. The staff did their very best to ensure this vacation was a good one.

 CLUB AMIGO MAYANABO, CAMAGUEY

 Good times

For what it's worth, the stay at the hotel was fine. The extra activities I purchased were very worth while. Staff are extremely friendly and will take an amazing care of you. Just make sure you show them the level of respect they deserve.

Some flights make stops to let people on and off, but for me personally, especially on the way home hungover, this was quite a torture.

Price was Okay, and that's about it

So first of all I'd like to point out that according to iTravel2000 this resort is a 3 star, but once you get there you get a pamphlet for the resort where it's revealed that it is in fact a 2.5 star.
Our flights were changed from the original time of 2:45 to 11:30, causing us to have to completely change our plans. There is a 1.5 hour bus ride from the Camaguey airport to the resort so by the time we got there it was 8pm. We were taken to our room and then we weren't given any other information. We had to go in search of the restaurant for dinner, which was way below expectations.
The food was gross and the whole restaurant smelled badly of fish. We discovered later on that their tap water caused the fishy smell, so every time we were given a glass of water we gave it the "smell test" to make sure it was safe. Avoid the tap water at all costs, your body will thank you. They have a gift shop that sells bottled water but it's only open from 9 - 4:45 (one day it closed at 3:30)so be sure to stock up. If you're feeling adventurous you can walk down the road to the 24hour "fast food" place called El Rapido and buy the big bottles of water there for $0.70 rather than the $2 they sell it for at the resort.
There are dirty cats everywhere and after seeing one jump across the coffee counter and coffee cups one morning when it somehow escaped into the restaurant, we avoided the coffee offered to us. My boyfriend saw a cockroach on the wall behind the cook's station, and I found one scuttling across the dessert plate. As for the "a la carte dinner" that you're promised - we were given no information on this, and the resort doesn't even have a restaurant other than the buffet room and the outdoor lunch area.
We were told we'd have a double bed, and ended up having 2 twins, so we pushed them together, but ended up just using one and snuggled close. We had a lizard in our room, but we were fine with that since it was eating any bugs it found. A crab tried to crawl in through the patio door, but was unsuccessful. The maids expect a good tip, and if you don't tip they just make the bed and wipe the floor. So if you want fresh towels etc, make sure you leave a tip.
The beach was okay, the sand isn't as soft as regular sand, it feels more like crushed up sea shells. The seaweed is near to the shore so don't expect to swim out very far. We enjoyed our daily walks along the beach until we found a syringe washed up among the other garbage, with a nice pointy 4-inch needle. After that we avoided the beach, and were terrified to think that we'd walked along that beach the night before, unable to see if we'd stepped on the needle or not.
There are crabs everywhere, so just be careful of where you step. They don't bother you and scurry away when you get too close to them. There are also hookers everywhere, so expect to see them floating from man to man throughout your stay. It became such a joke for us because it was obvious that they were prostitutes. Oh and don't buy ANYTHING on the beach! It's all rip-offs, and anything they're selling you can buy for much cheaper in a shop somewhere. And if someone offers you a horse tour on sale for $15, don't take it because it'll be offered to you through the resort for $6!
There are a few tours offered that would have been fun, but we didn't bring a ton of money. We did take the Coral Reef Snorkeling Tour, which takes you and a group of people out on a catamaran to a coral reef and then hand you some flippers and a mask and you jump right into the water. It was pretty scary at first for me because I'd never gone snorkeling before, so I had some trouble getting used to the snorkel.
At first my boyfriend and I said we'd never ever go back, but I think if we needed a few days to ourselves in the sun we'd consider it. Also, we would've saved over a hundred dollars each if we booked closer to the date, so keep that in mind.

 Feeling like second class.

For the past few years, Cuba has allowed the locals to stay at their own hotels. I don't have a problem with the concept until it negatively effects my vacation. The locals were there all week with a large influx on the weekend. The staff serves them first and the locals receive better service. The locals also are disrespectful to their own environment and are pigs in general. They butt in line and leave the pool, beach and restaurant areas in a mess.
Too bad as it leaves a bad impression.

 NEVER GOING BACK!

This resort was the worst resort I have ever been too.
There was no variety of food, as rice and fries were served for breakfast and disgusting desserts for lunch.
Had to face a mosquito attack every time I stepped out of my room.
The beach was less than 200 meters from the resort itself, however the sea weeds at the beach was terrible. I have never seen anything like that before anywhere in Cuba.
The room was as wet as a cave and smell like mold, and there are a variety of illnesses caused by mold exposure!
There was no 24/7 bar as indicated.
The staff has no regard for safety, one employee tossed a 50 pound sack of laundry from the 2nd floor and almost hit my friend.
The resort was nothing else but TERRIBLE. I would NOT recommend this resort even my enemies.. you can imagine how horrible it was.
All in all, just the worst place to go to.

 Not what we expected

This was a last minute trip for us. We arrived at the hotel mid afternoon and the resort seemed empty. Yet, we had to wait 90 minutes for our room. When we got to our room it was dark, dingy and damp. Food was poor. The resort was literally crumbling apart. No fountains were working. The pool was the only good part. We ended up moving to another resort the following day

 Club Mayanabo Santa Lucia, Cuba

You get what you pay for... Hotel is in a state of repair but it doesn't interfere with the holiday. Rooms are more like a motel room instead of what you might find at a nice HOTEL... Bathroom was good.. Room was spotless and clean everyday by staff!! Food buffet was blan and basically was the same day in day out with little variety... Food is not the strong point of this or most cuban resorts from conversations... It was filling and i was never hungury. Entertainment and things to do was lacking. Massages in hotel were inexpensive and nice... Beach was some what dirty rough in spots If your planning on Scuba Diving the shop is right between the Gran Club and Oasis...Scuba is good in spots / Shark dive and area is great coral. other areas not so much. Little to do in the area. The excursions are really cheap! Staff was very nice........

 CLUB AMIGO MAYANABO

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone except if your a senior. The rooms smell like mold and are outdated, the food was disgusting (it didn't look like food). The only positive thing about this resort was the entertainment staff..they did a great job and were very talented.

 Going back again

We arrived to pleasant staff, a clean, sufficient room and a lunch with lots of choices. Since we ended up spending all of our days at the beach, our mornings and evenings were the only time spent at the main hotel/pool. The beach was clean and there was always room for everyone. The pedal boats are the best way to get around the water and to take out and do a bit of snorkeling (at the resort beside Mayanabo there is a bit of coral and quite a few fish to see really close up). If you ask, there is a lot more to do down at the beach than what is advertised even if you have to pay a bit extra, it's well worth it. The kite surfing lessons were amazing!

The pool was never crowded nor were the chairs. Everywhere in the hotel is clean and is cleaned constantly.

I can't say enough about our experience. The espresso bar, snack bar, drink bars, entertainment staff and the entertainment, etc. was beyond our expectations and we will be back again.

 There for the Diving

The lobby, pool and restaurant are visually pleasant and the staff are helpful and attentive. Beach is nice with watersports available and a bar close by. The bands were very talented and finished their sets by 9:30. My only complaint was about the beds in the room; thin and not much support. After a busy day diving or walking around, a good night's sleep is important to me so it wouldn't take much more to make the overall experience better. The other problem was all the broken equipment in the gym but not everyone works out on vacation.

 Overall Great Deal!!!

In overall, amigo mayanabo is way above average. the room is clean, people are nice and friendly, the night show is great. However, the quality of food is so-so. most of the food taste is just too flat. compare to the price, it is overall great deal but there are few points you will never get satisfied.

 As expected!

I went with my 11 year old son and I was glad to see other many families with kids. It wasn’t as busy as I was expecting for March break, which for us it was a plus. I was impressed by the very courteous and helpful staff. We checked in and were led to the room in less than 5 minutes.
The walk to the beach is a bit long for some, for us – it created a good opportunity to burn some calories. The great thing is that you don’t have to get up at 6am to catch an umbrella on the beach or a shadowed chair along the pool. Tiles around the pool were very slippery when wet, and of course we all have wet feet when we come out of the pool.
Amenities were very clean, but the resort - as being the oldest on St. Lucia beaches - shows the passing of time. One of the buildings was being gutted out (for renovations probably), during our stay. Grounds were dry & a bit bear. The kids place in almost ruins, which was a shame as it has a very cute & colorful design. Speaking of kids – there were no activities that I’ve heard of for them … For grownups - Animacion could have organized some pool exercises and be more animated in general. Entertainment started too late for us and not at consistent times.
Tennis courts are outside of the resort, and if you manage to get the ball over the fence it’s a good walk again around the half of the resorts length to retrieve it and then again the half length of the resort to pick up the game where you’ve left it.
Last but not least – in the rooms – although they seem small, there is plenty of space for belongings in the closet & plenty of drawers. I was impressed to see that we even had an umbrella. I recommend packing some S hooks & perhaps some rope, as you might find it helpful to hang to dry your stuff. I wished I would have packed a pillow – but we all know about the restrictions on luggage, so perhaps we can persuade the resort to replace the clumpy - tinny ones they have now.
All in all, if you are not fussy, you’ll have a good vacation on the budget.

 Ups and Downs

The hotel itself is in need of some serious updating especially the rooms.

The staff keep it as clean as possible and I have no complaints with the staff or the cleanliness. The beach was beautiful and I went there for the sun, sand, surf and suds in that order.

After reading the reviews prior to my trip, I did not have any illusions about the goings on or the fact that it may be a 2 star.

For me it was too much with the older men and the young Cuban girls. Very few younger people were at the resort. I'm not prudish - however it was a bit too much.

I will not go back.
