 Viva Cuba

Mis à part les chambres qui mériterait d'être rafraichit et surtout plus propre,je suis très satisfait du site. La nourriture était très acceptable.

 A week to remember

At check-in our first impression was a little dim,The lady seemed less than helpfull and and our room was not ready for several more hours. She didnt seem to have any interest in sorting anything out for us but that was the only hurdle we encountered on our week at The Sol cayo Santa Maria. The people were so warm and welcoming and we made several friends during our stay. The grounds were natural and spralling compared to some resorts that are more like an apartment block. The gardens were beautiful and we found ourselves just walking around and enjoying them. The gardeners were super friendly and even took us on a little tour looking for a Scorpion while we sucked on Coconuts they had prepared for us.
The room was clean, simple and comfy with a typical tropical feel.Maid service was good and she made our day with the towel sculptures.
We sampled every restaurant on the resort and were never dissapointed. The Creole was interesting and had a very nice outdoor setting,The italian was terrific with amazing food. The buffet never let us down either, always something new and always something for eveyone. We had the familly with us on this trip and we all had our favorites. The servers at the buffet were super,They made friends with us instantly. We sat at the same table every time and had the same server at every meal. His name was Yoice and he made our vacation special teasing the kids at every oportunity. He made us feel like royalty.
The lobby bar was also special to us as we had our favorite servers there as well. The cafe con leche is excellant,Highly recomended.
The people in the gift shop were very helpfull pointing us in the direction of what we needed even if they didnt have it.
I can't forget the banker,Marcelo. He was super friendly and had great advice as well.
The beach was world class.Miles of white sand and turquoise water. We went at a quiet time i guess because the beaches were always empty and we never had to wait for anything. If we wanted shady place to sit we had our pick.Snorkelling,Kayaks and swimming in paradise.there is something for eveyone,we met several bird watchers while we were looking for our critters ie: Land crabs, scorpions, spiders and lizards.
The entertainment was great as well.We took in a few of the evening shows including one beach party with drinking games and limbo competitions all with a DJ,Gorgeous dancers and super soft white sand. One night they had a magician who started his show at the lobby bar and got us hooked so we went to the theater to see some more where he performed with the dancers making a night to remember. From Beutiful exotic salsa dancing to fire dancing all the while playing spanish up beat music.
We recomend learning the basics of spanish it will make it easier but most of the people you will interact with have the basics of english and maybe french as well.
This was a vacation to remember due to setting, location and the epic staff.

Stay and Santa MARIA - Cuba

Hotel was satisfactory, needs some fine tuning. Food was boring and bland.
Leaving airport was cayotic. No instructions in english. 4 large planes trying to leave at same time. Very confusing. Almost missed our plane due to the confusion. No agent from tour company at airport to sort things out.

 Super vacation

Arrived around midnight, check in was simple and we were quickly escorted to our room. The room was spotlessly clean and nicely appointed. Was equipped with lamps by which one could actually read; a first among our 6 visits to Cuba! The Buffet was excellent. The staff were delightful from the magnificent beach, the various bars, all of the restaurants and front desk staff. Even the folks who staffed the money exchange did so with care and courtesy. The pianist who entertained each night in the Piano Bar was awesome. What the Sol lacks in external maintenance is more than compensated for by the attitude of a very dedicated staff. We are ready to return tomorrow!

 Family vacation

For the price paid it was worthy. the room is clean, the food is very good, drinks domestic and international. The beach is very nice, however, if you travel with children be aware that the left side is nude beach. The children area, both pool and playground are not taken care of, as well as the sport area.

 Average

this rersort had a beautful beach but it very old and is decaying pretty bad.It isn't kept very clean, beds are like cardboard and bedding is thin and cheap. food is really good but there isn't much variety daily at the buffet so by the end of week it's pretty hard to be excited about going to eat. The shows in the evenings are done well but almost the same every night. The island that the resort is on is very very seculded and there isn't much to do or see. Some of the staff is very friendly and we became close friends but some make you feel bad about asking for a drink. overall for the price we paid, The resort isnt bad but i wouldn't pay anymore to go there and i wouldn't go back. Front desk as well of most of the staff barley speak english at all.

 Bonne bouffe, excellent service...

 Great Beach! Great Stay

For the most part had a great vacation. Had some issues with the front desk but after speaking with the general manager, he bent over backwards to help us. Also we enjoy tipping for good service but we felt that good service required a tip. So we found a few good servers and bartenders we felt serviced us well and stuck with them and tipped them well! Overall we were pleased with our stay.

 WONDERFUL TIME

This was our 2nd time to Cuba, afte our first visit to the Marea Del Portillo, we promised to NEVER go back. However we decided to try and again and were pleasantly surprised. Although this resort is and hour and half bus ride, it goes by quick. We arrived very late and were looked after immediately and in our rooms within 10 min. Our room was clean and spacious with a king size bed and the bathroom huge!! A Large balcony where we enjoyed an oceanview and our coffee each morning. The staff were wonderful, hardworking and very pleasant. The grounds are well looked after. The beach and ocean are magnificent!!! Food was great!!! This is a very quiet resort, anyone looking for a party try next door because there was a lot of noise coming from there. We would highly recommend the Sol!!

 Amazing!

What a great hotel. The service was impecable. The staff are such nice people. The guests were super friendly. The combination made the atmosphere of this hotel so relaxing and peaceful. If you want luxury this is not the place for you. The hotel is 10 yrs old so it is not fancy like the Melia. If you are down to earth and go with an open mind you wont be disappointed. I dont have one thing to complain about. I have been to Cuba 12 times and we like to try different resorts every visit. This is my first time in Santa Maria and will be returning to this particular resort...I dont say that about many resports in Cuba. This is not a party resport so there were no obnoxcious drunk people. The food was awsome. If you like roast beef, turkey, pork or fish you will be fine. The beach is breathtaking. You will not find another beach like this one. If you are into fishing, this is the place to go. We love to fish. The Causeway is minutes from the resort, we caught a 14lb Snapper with the help of our taxi driver Arocha. There is something to be said when you are fishing with the local cubans...what an experience. We cant wait to return.

 SOL CAYO SANTA MARIA

All in all it was a wonderful vacation, the staff and service was very good. The beach and the water just gorgeous. Some areas need attention to maintenance. Large bottles of water were hard to obtain, we needed to be a bit resourceful at times. The bars were well stocked and we saw many different drinks made, even custom orders :). Had a great time and would consider going back.

 So so

Beautiful grounds, beautiful beach. Room was in disrepair and dirty. We did not receive one clean towel during our week's stay. There was no water when we arrived at 1:00 am and had to pull teeth to get any. Food was very good. Sandflies were a problem. Customer service at the front counter was extremely poor. We were told we could get a late checkout as our departure wasn't until 6:15 pm but when the time came, we were told it was impossible. No room was provided to keep our luggage in and we could not get into a courtesy room to get cleaned up and changed.

 February visit

The location is very good if you travel for beaches and nature. Also, if you like fishing, take your fishing rods, rent a bike or a scooter and head to the road connecting to the mainland. Try fishing at some of the bridges. Fishing with bait is a choice. For bait, you can tip a cook at the restaurant and ask for raw shrimp and calamari.
The hotel is not extremely impressive, but is fine. There is some very good food at the buffet and there is also so-so food. For instance, calamari in the buffet are not very good, but of you have lunch at the beach bar, you would find very good calamari. Italian restaurant is good.
Sleep quality is only OK as the air conditioner is weird and beds have not super comfy mattresses.
There is a small fridge in the room that is supposed to contain at least water - no luck here. You well need to ask for a water your waiter at the buffet. If you tip him or her regularly, you will not need to ask again.
We will return to the area and probably even the same hotel.

 Respond of your request

-We stayed for 6 days, and called maintenance section for repairs 5 times for different matters.
-The Italian & Pizzeria rest. were no good at their food test or varieties
-Less entertainment for the tourist than expected within each day.
-Buffet rest. and beach bar with the other bars were good in service and product.

 Hotel experience

Overall I would give this hotel a 2 - 3 rating. The food was not good and they had poor internet access. Our security deposit box would not lock on arrival and we told numerous times to go to our room and a staff member would be there right away to fix it. It took over 12 hrs of waiting before we were finally able to change rooms and have a secure box. The fitness centre was under repair however we did have access to another fitness centre in a nearby hotel. The location is good and the beach and nightly extertainment was excellent

 Terrible****

The hotel needs tons of maintenance. Overall view is nice but it doesn't match up to the view. The pools are dirty. You can only eat at certain times. One alacarte restaurant which you have to get up early and stand in line to book. The front desk is pathetic. The internet cafe, don't bother as 30 minutes purchased was not enough time to log into my bank. Most cubans friendly however the men who work at the resort serve you on their time frame and don't acknowledge you when you walk up to the bar.
1 hour and 45 minutes to resort. Cuban airport is brutal.
Sunwing is brutal.
Way too expensive (1500 for one person)for what we got.
