 Voyage a holguin

Club Amigo is not your friend!

Horrible experience at this hotel. The beach was beautiful but the hotel itself was horrible, dirty and the front staff gave us the worse customer service. Everyone didn't know their prices at the hotel...everyone gave us different pricing at certain times. At one point, when we requested for clean bed sheets, one of the ladies told us it was a peso a day for fresh sheets. Apparently they change the sheets every 2 days but they didn't in our case. They literally re used the same bed sheet. Front desk was not friendly and never gave us a direct answer. The hotel facilities was not that clean. It's best that you upgrade to the 4 or 5 star beside Club Amigo. Don't even bother! Remember you get what you pay for!

 Holguin / Guardalavaca

I have read some negative reviews about this hotel which is said to be the worst of the big hotels in Guardalavaca. This shouldn't put you off. The hotel's facilities are good and the choice of food, by Cuban standards, is great. One proviso: If you want a restful night's sleep, book a villa away from the action.

 Tres beau site !

Beau Bon Bas Prix (section tropical)

 Fantastic Week

Although the resort was much larger than we expected, I found this to be a bonus with the choices of restaurants, pools, activities and bars.
Beautiful beach and gorgeous walking path along the water with spectacular views and flowers.
Well worth the money. The rooms are not fancy but were clean and comfortable, everything worked, lots of hot water.
The food was very good, lots of variety. I found the staff to be friendy and helpful, not a single staff member asked me for money/gifts or handouts (as I have encountered with some other resorts).
Really an enjoyable week, I have no complaints- I would go again.

 12ième fois

 It was okay

Well you know what you have heard about Cuba and the food; it's true, so don't expect the best.Above all it was a good trip, nice resort, minor problems, watch your towels ours were stolen the first day and it was 15 pesos each we had to pay when we were leaving.

 Simple but lovely vacation

Club Amigo is 4 hotels together which own pools and restaurants. Doesn't metter which hotel you stay you can go to any of the hotels.
We stayed in standart section of the hotel. Very simple and clean room.(the best is building #4. You can upgrade your room 25$ to villas, 6$ to tropican section, 12$ to bungalows.Per room, per day.
The closest to everything is tripican section with elevator. Food-nothing fancy, but you never feel hungry. 4 buffes and 6 restaurants. Which I suggest to book as soon as you can. You can book one restaurant per day in the same day of booking. Internet 6$/hr very slow. Massage on the beach 25$ for a whole body. Nice beach. You can change canadian dollars to pessos in the hotel. Nice small market behind the tropican section and few stores behind bungalows section.
It is good 3stars hotel for the good price.

 Vacances inoubliable

 Amazing

Just came back on Friday night..amazing staff.. amazing beaches... Food was okay... Lots n lots of old folks who are super crazy (always running after young cuban girls... it was gross)... other than that it was awesome.. We took an excursion trip to the bay adventure... rented moped to check out banis (beautiful city)... horeback riding to a big mountain. The resort is massive - you can compare that size to a large university campus. Beaches are really nice.. cuban music pounding while you lay back.. luv it!

 Disappointed

I am truly disappointed with the trip this year. This was my 4 time at the resort.
The Hotel I booked Standard, was garbage, as soon as I arrived I transferred to the Villa's. The rooms were flooded, not clean, had cockroaches. The Villa's are excellent.
They were allowing locals onto the beach area in front of the Hotel, allowing them to roam the grounds. They also had locals who also paid to be there. They would serve them before us, they locals were rude and didn't care they would cut in front of us, spill drinks on me and so on.
To top it all off, Canjet lost my luggage.
This also was my daughter's 3rd time being there, so wasn't all that please.
I went in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012.
I won't be going back,

 Nova Scotia Couple

This was our fourth time to Cuba but first to this resort. The food was very good, we went to two restaurants but ate at the buffets most of the time. The only down side on the food there was not as much fruit variety as I was used to.The people were very friendly and helpful. There was always lots of hot water, toilet paper and even had soap and shampoo supplied. We would like to go back again but next time for two weeks. T he beach is good about 1/2 mile long with no sea weed. There are locals on the beach , especially on the weekend but no problems as they did not bother us at all.

Club Amigo, some areas better than others

for a 3* and the last minute price we paid we had no complaints. We paid for a hotel room but upgraded to a Villa after we got there which was so much better. Food was ok, we didn't leave a meal hungry. Bread/rolls to die for. We are vegetarians so ate alot of spaghetti and cheese pizza, eggs and rolls. 3 different buffets to choose from, but mostly the same food. A la cartes not any better than buffet but you get waited on. Brought peanut butter. Disappointed in the fruit. Nice beach, pools great and service super! Would I go back? Maybe..but I like to check out different places. If you like 5* like the Sheraton/Hilton etc...not the place for you. If you are ok with the economy hotels like Travelodge/Comfort Inn, you will be fine here, just stay in the Villas or Bungalows!

Great hotel. We went last year and enjoyed this year even more. We had a villa and got the opportunity to see the other section rooms, which confirmed our favorites were the villas. Great staff, beautiful beaches, good food.

 Club Amigo Guardalavaca

We stayed in the Bungalows. In the past we stayed at the villas and the gardenview. Gardenview rooms are very basic but you get what you want to pay for. The grounds and pools are beautiful. The theme restaurants are excellent. Small and quaint. Location has everything. Places to walk, local market, safe beach and water. We love it here. Many many repeat customers. Very friendly staff on the resort. If you are use to staying in 5 star hotels you may not like this.

 Was not all that Impressed

The hotel was pretty, the staffs were slow. When i booked i asked for a non-smoking room. When i got there i was stuck in a smoking room i could not sleep. We asked front desk to change they said that they were all booked out. Upon touring the resort we found there were 4 sections to the hotel. Therefore we asked another section if they room. We had to pay 33.00 dollars to change to a room that i would sleep in. Not to mention every day we had to ask to get our television fixed, because every day it stopped working. All three nights we stayed at hotel A la carte restaurants were totally booked out, even though we tried to book from first night. Secondly we were never able to get beach towels they were always out of clean ones. The hotel buffet was not very delicious and did not have a lot of options. We asked for a king bed or a queen bed, we ended up with two twin beds. I had to ask maid for more shampoo, because second days she decided not to give us any. The hotel would have been better along with food options. Also when announcing daily activities it would nice to tell which location they were taking place and also where the nightly shows were. We missed out on two shows because we did not know where they were. We had one good front desk rep. his name was Victor he was a life saver he was the one who found us a room, even though we had to pay and were upset, it was out of his hand about paying. Not to mention the sunwing, rep that they never got out request that were made through Itravel, when we printed my reservation they were printed on there. Also not a lot of staff spoke English at all or understood, made it very hard to communicate or get issues resolved. Not to mention on the flight back we fell asleep and they never even woke us for our meal, when I asked for our meal, they asked if we were sleeping with attitude. The beach was lovely and weather was nice, but accommodation I thought would have been nicer considering 3.5 stars. Also Itravel should have at least given us a non-smoking room since we asked for one. We would have chosen a next hotel if we knew they were booked out or we had to pay to get a non-smoking room.

 The name

The first time we went here in 2003 we met a couple from Ontario just after arriving. Carl said they were on their 14th visit and we could not believe why people would go to the same place so often. We found out... and this was our 7th time.
The staff are absolutely great, the beach is so calm, the area so safe. The snorkling is awesome... just off the beach a ways is a series of structures - we spend hours out there.
Best to stay in the Villas section, as the standard rooms are old, and so is the Atlantico. Any people we met that do stay in the old hotel say it is just fine as they only want a room to sleep. There are 4 resorts together here and you get the run of the place - 4 pools, with bars and restaurants at each so you can party at the swim-up or be quiet at another area.
