 Voyage Tryp caya coco

 Great Vacation

My family and I had a great vacation a Sol Cayo Coco. I was hesitant about this hotel based on the food reviews, but after a week there I found the food to be much better than I expected. There was a lot of variety, lots of freshly made food choices and very good overall. Yes, you may want to add some salt, but that is a personal preference. The servers like Yuka and, Elvis were exceptional - extremely attentive and pleasant, Roly at the bar was sweet, professional and made fantastic drinks for us and performers such as Delvis made for great entertainment. The only issue we found had to do with the towel situation. They seemed to have problems providing clean towels. Definitely bring an extra towel or two. The rooms were clean the beach-cove side was spectacular. We will definitely go back and felt that this resort offered great value for the money.

 Sol Cayo Coco Review

Over stay was positive. here are few suggestions for the future:
- good to get the map of the resort with all important items like beach, emergency facilties marked.
- many problems with beach towels, those were not available most of the time during specified time for the exchage
-security box access should be included in the price of the room
- would be nice to have some soft drinks in the room on daily basis

 Vacation 2012 - The Best!

It was our second stay at Sol Cayo Coco and it certainly won't be our last! The hotel was really nice, very clean, the staff was amazing, accommodations were most comfortable, the resort was clean and just beautiful, well kept grounds, the beach was amazing (once again) and I would not hesitate in a flash to come back to Sol Cayo Coco! This is our 5th trip to Cuba, and the Sol has been the best. That's why we keep coming back :) It was a great age mix, and just a lot of fun, relaxation, great entertainment, food was awesome, coffee always hot, the list goes on. A special thanks to the wonderful staff, especially our good amigos Orlando, Mikeal, Saul, Osmany, Eldys, Allain, Alex, Allian, Leo, Alberto, Joel and Rollie. The pool was great, lots of activities, and the whole resort atmosphere was most inviting. We did not want to leave. See you all next March, thats a promise!

 Relax and Enjoy

Loved the resort and the staff, but did not feel as comfortable in the room, which needs to be updated. The room interior does not (yet?) match the rest of the resort. I would return but would ask for a better room which other tourists did and got! All rooms are not yet at the same level from what more seasoned guests told me.

 Great Holiday

From the moment we were picked up at the Airport we were treated extremely well. The hotel staff were absolutely wonderful and we could not have asked for anything more from them. They were all such warm and friendly people and looked after our every need - sometimes before we even realized we needed it! The room was clean and spacious. The beach was beautiful white sand. Entertainment each evening was interesting and lively. All in all, it was an amazing vacation and I would recommend the Sol Cayo Coco to anyone going to Cuba!

 Nice hotel and great beaches

This hotel was nice. It was not a 4 star by our standards (maybe a 2.5 star) but it was clean and everything was accessible. The beaches were fabulous but there were many jelly fish probably because it was January. The one beach was super calm and shallow. The food was fresh. If you tip the servers you definitely will have a table for you saved in the buffet. We never went hungry. They had activities by the pool all the time. The bottom line is that YOU make your trip. If there was an issue I went to the front desk and they delt with it immediately. Don't sweat the small stuff. Remember you are in Cuba! Drink, enjoy the sun, and relax. There were activities that you need to pay for like the catamaran. Go to Pilar Beach.(5 peso bus ride-takes about 70 in to get there) It was beautiful! Fresh exotic fish swimming beside you. You have access to the Trip Cayo Coco (25 min walk along the beach) and the Sol Cayo Guillermo (50 min bus ride) Bring your own towel (just in case) because the hotel ran out of towels to give. Also bring bug repellent. The sand flies are nasty and these bites are itchier than mosquito bites. Overall we had a great time. We felt very safe and enjoyed our time in the sun.

Sol Cayo Coco ~ Wish it was better

The worst thing about our experience was the bad room we got. We paid 1155$ per person CDN and the bed linens had holes, bedbugs and blood stains on them. So ofcourse we asked for them to be changed. There were also bugs on the nightables. We didn't want to sleep in that room our first night and asked for a new room. But it was New Years Eve and the hotel was booked. The staff told us to check in the morning to see if there were any rooms available. We stayed in that room with bugs and on the 3rd and 4th day we had other uninvited guests, 2 lizards found there way in and we couldn't get them out. We finally got a room our 2nd last day and wow what a difference. Not that it was a suite it was still a regular room. But it was facing the pool and we had newer furniture and a couch instead of a 3rd bed. So we were happy when we didn't find any bedbugs in that room or bugs crawling on the night tables. No more blood stains on the sheets either but it made us bitter that we didn't have that room in the first place. If you are going to this resort get a suite or a room that faces the pool.

The staff asked us frequently if they could have our shampoos or tshirts. I felt like we were doing charity work at times. Also tipping goes a long way for some of the staff but doesn't do anything for some of them. We tipped our maid daily by leaving her shampoos lip glosses, deoderants, bath beads, etc. and she wrote us a note saying thank you. Other guests we talked to got chocolates and swans. So it might not have been necessary to give her so much. The bartenders ignored some people we talked to and they got really fed up with the service of the staff as well. The staff seemed lazy at times and only interested in hussling the guests to buy something or give them whatever they didn't have in cuba. The food was bad. It resembled slop. BUT the pasta and stir fry station was good. If we had a good room from the beginning it might have made up for the amount we paid (which was a little bit more since it was New Years).

One last thing, when we called the reception one night asking for a bottle of water, they said they didn't have any and that if we had an empty bottle we could take it to the pool bar and they would fill it up there for us. I went down and the bartender gave me a new one. The reception staff was just too lazy to bring it up. So don't expect much from a customer service standpoint at this resort. They are just too lazy.

 Not disappointed

The hotel was in decent shape, though there were a lot of ants in our room and we suspect some "bug bites" we don't remember getting were provided by them (no way of telling for certain). The beach was pretty much unusable due to the high winds all week. A short walk away there is a public beach that is protected by a little peninsula which was nice, so you don't really miss out. The local bus is great for getting around to the other hotels (or Playa Pilar - highly recommended) you can visit (hit the front desk for a day-bracelet for each Sol Guillermo and Tryp Cayo Coco, so you can try their lunch buffets and Churros. We were surprised that there were times of the day when food just wasn't available, or it was in the form of "make yourself a sandwich".

Here are some tips if staying here:
• Bring your own decent size travel mug (they give you the most flimsy small thin plastic cups made by man for all outdoor drinks)
• if it's very windy, you can walk to Tryp Cayo Coco via the public beach (at low tide, otherwise use the bus or walk along the road) or just use the public beach (it's a bit protected by a small peninsula)
• Make sure to take a good tread closed toe shoes to explore the old coral reef/lookout next to the public beach
• bring a watch, our resort only had one clock in whole place, nothing in the rooms.
• bring bug repellent as the local mosquitoes are nasty especially after a visit to Playa Pilar at the bus stop (human buffet) or anywhere on the island from dusk through the evening.
• if you want to explore the grounds at night, bring a flashlight (there isn't much else to do but drink).
• bring a few granola bars/snacks to make sure you don't go hungry when there is no food available.
• snack bar by the pool bar makes a decent pizza or sandwich (only open after lunch to before dinner.

 Great Vacation!

We have just returned from a 10 day stay and the resort was really lovely. Very clean. The staff very friendly and helpful. We had a problem with our a/c and it was fixed within a couple of hours and they even called back later to see if we were happy with the result. The food was fine -- not a huge variety but plentiful, fresh and tasty if a little under seasoned. The Don Diego ala carte restaurant was terrific -- good food and great service. All in all, a really great resort to relax and take life easy.

Sol Cayo Coco falls short of expectations

Deemed to be a 4 star hotel, it falls short in food fare, beach cleanliness, lazy maintenance workers. Exceeds rating in guest services, bar and restaurant staff willingness to make your visit memorable by their smiles, dedication to duty, service proficiency and getting it right the first time when asked for assistance in catering to your needs or desires. Entertainment staff do a bang on job of performing at a high level during their shows and other duties, Very entertaining and talented bunch.
