 Fantastic!!!

This resort was above expectations. It was absolutely beautiful. The food was incredible, people were extremely friendly and the entire vacation was fantastic, best trip we have ever had. Will definitely be returning to Melia Cayo Coco. If I had one thing to say that was not positive, it would be that the bed was a little harder than we are used to at home, but nothing to get excited about!! Thank you for a wonderful holiday! Hola!

 Melia Cayo Coco

Had a wonderful vacation, great weather, and pure rest and relaxation. It was a small and quiet resort - mostly couples.

 Pleasant Cuban Vacation

This was our 3rd vacation in Cuba. First 2 were in Veradero. We were pleased with the resort, facilities and ambiance. It is definitely a quieter resort with no ocean water sports that we saw (paddleboats, sailboats). The surf was quite rough most days but we could still swim. The lobby bar is the "go to" place with lots of places to sit. The food, in general, was the best we've experienced in Cuba, particularly the meat grill in the buffet which was exceptional. We were upgraded to a lagoon room and were quite pleased with that.

 Amazing

Check in was quick, you're greeted with a refreshing glass of bubbly, the bellman was ready to take us to our room. Thanks Felix and Abel for driving us around. We had the standard room which was clean and spacious, the maid did a great job, she even straighten out our shoes. The shower worked well, the bed was comfortable, aircon worked great and the mini fridge was stocked daily. What more do you need.

We were pleasantly surprised by the food. There was a great selection in the buffet, in fact they even had lobster several nights. All the food was tasty and hot. A la cartes - we only ate at the Italian and International ones, we didn't try the Cuban. Tip: make all your reservations early.

The animation team was great, always getting the guest involved in their games, sometimes you don't even have to leave your lounge chair to participate.
The lobby bar had entertainment every night, with a piano player and a live Cuban band. It was a great way to socialize with fellow guests while having a cocktail before the main show. The bar staff was quick to bring your drinks.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful, with mature tress and lovely flowers. The gardeners do great job at maintaining the grounds and will always say Hola when you pass by.
Yes the resort is starting to show it's age and the beach towels are getting a little worn out, but the management and staff are making vast improvements to the hotel. They go out of there way to make your stay pleasant and enjoyable.

 Satisfaction garantie

 Relaxing vacation in the sun

We had a very relaxing vacation and were treated like royalty right from o a the moment we arrived at the melia. A room wasn't available that night so we were asked to stay at the sister resort next door for 1st night but then we had a free room upgrade to a lagoon room which was nice and private. The entire place is relaxing and gorgous grounds..the gardeners work VERY hard to keep the landscaping and greeted us everyday with little handmade gifts made out of flowers and palm trees. The room was bright and clean with fresh towels and a bathrobe & slippers to use during your stay. Overall a great time & amazing staff....see you all next year!!!

 Cayo Coco Cuba

We had a great week at the Melia Cayo Coco. The food was good. The employees were nice. We needed a rest and that is what we got. It was our second trip to this hotel and we think it is the best one. This was our 6th trip to Cuba and our 4th to Cayo Coco.

On disait vrai!

 Melia cayo coco

This hotel cost about $200 more than the tryp,(probably because it was an air canada vacation)Which I have been to 4 times before, the food at the tryp is all in all 10 times better than at the melia, more variety, better Quallity all though we like the fact that there no children here, no bird dance was a real treat! that happens at the trip every night! if you like a nice soft mattress dont go here, they are very stiff and your back will ache, the wire in the mattress in our room 9812 was very bad, at 500am i would get out of bed and walk around because my back hurt so much!, i even put my air mattress that, i brought with us and put it on their mattress the following nights, so i could sleep a bit better, i also went to customer service and complained, and she said they would send a new mattress, well that never happened, also being on a ground floor, the sliding patio door had a chain on it but the actual lock was broken and you could see where it had been pryed open before, the electronic safe was very handy holding my camera and our passports and wallets, ac/hot water worked perfect! although the hot water is too hot! but there are warning stickers,a couple of times the guy filling the mini fridge would only give us 1 beer out of the 2 alloted per day even though the fridge was empty! the staff is very good and go out of their way to please you, especially after a $5 peso tip, lol! If your a man like me, i dont appreciate standing in the urinal and having a female worker just come in and start to clean, it happened at the lobby washroom 2 times in one day, yikes! also being a non smoker, it would be nice if people and or managment would have some disgression about smoking in the lobby and food areas, i found the nightly shows very good, as they have a roof in case of rain! we also like the fact that you can visit the sister resorts, but hope that some day they will allow you to have dinner at them also, as you are only allowed to stay until 5pm at the sister resorts, all in all we had a great time there, the weather was sunny and warm from sunday the 8th of jan until sat the 14th of jan, the poor people that came on sunday the 15th,it was very cloudy and cooler, lol! oh well!also pay the extra $$$ for the vip departure, We did, not knowing what to expect, there was about 400 people ahead of us at the airport for the return trip back to canada, but because we had the vip, we had a line of 6 people in front of us, then beat our way through the lines of people to the $25 exit fee station, then through customs into a private lounge, that included free drinks, (like corona) ham and cheese sandwiches, all you can eat,or drink, lol!and a private entrance to the plane before the main crowd got on board, so if you want a nice lazy place, go here!  Christmas at Cayo Coco

First it should be said that we would most certainly return to Cuba, and as certainly to the special strips of beach surrounding Cayo Coco. The locals are friendly and obliging; the scene and veldts were often near perfect.

However, a note for your future guests to this particular resort (and likely to those in the area) is that the star rating system for hotels must differ from country to country, and so a Cuban five star resort could not in reality be pitted against a five star in Hawaii or Italy, and so on.

The Melia Cayo Coco, while possessing several aspects of a higher class of holiday, could only really be classed a maximum of 3.5 stars on a world-class scale. Some of the rooms are falling to bits! Our tub, for instance, would not be one to actually bathe in. The patio door needed to be slammed in order to fasten it closed. The lights flickered for minutes coming on and some made great humming sounds once warmed up. The beverage delivery boy stole tips from the chambermaid (we caught the bugger!). There are feral cats roaming around everywhere. The buffet, although grand, is the same day in and day out (except for Christmas Eve dinner). A bottle of water is sometimes a steeple chase to acquire - once the bar sent me to reception, and reception called around the hotel (apologetically) and then reminded me of their one bottle per day per guest policy, but then prompted me to take a telephone call from their boss who did not speak English but asked me to return to my room that one bottle would be delivered as soon as possible. We usually would buy our water at the store, but the shops kept odd hours and we sometimes found ourselves out of luck.

The list could go on, and most of them are petty little things. Like I say, the big picture was a wonderful experience and my wife and I actually enjoy a more rugged form of travel, so the little imperfections make life fun. BUT you must inform your customers who are actually expecting a world-class 5 star resort that it cannot possibly be a rating from the international scale.

Another important item to note – on the all-inclusive mandate put forth by the website, it says 'all tips and gratuities included'. This does not seem to add up. We learned that the sought after employment of the resort hotels pay a very low Cuban wage because it is known that the staff can earn tips as part of their living. From our experience we doubt very much that each of our servers (from bus-boys to chambermaids) have automatic gratuities included in their salaries. Once we learned about the Cuban Peso vs. the tourist peso, we found that our service improved immensely once we threw a few of them around. To sum up that score – all tips and gratuities are NOT included, and for the extra money we spent on certain basic amenities it is difficult to even say ‘all-inclusive’.

In conclusion we had a great time and would go back, yet we have grown a little wiser regarding expectation for luxury resorts. Our holiday was a lot of fun and we didn’t get sick or robbed or anything bad like that. We feel that a five-star class rating would not be out of the Melia’s reach, but it would likely take a major investment and overhaul.

 Nice and quiet

Very quiet resort. The wind was strong all but one day that made the beaches dirty although they were cleaned most days it did not take long for the sea weed to wash in.One day it was not windy we were bothered by some kind of little bug.
Second floor room had a very nice balcony only seperated by a metal railing from the next balcony so no privacy. Room was kept very clean and fridge was stocked daily.
The Sunwing infromation says that in the hotel room you will have slippers and robes so did not take my robe.Front desk said only came with the upgraded lagoon rooms. Spoke to the sunwing rep and was told I should have gotten them. Hate to sound pickey but again asked and was told I would get them so by the third day of seven they did show up. Just a note anyone else we spoke to in the basic hotel room did not get them as advertised. On a good note the infromation also says Mini Bar($)and Safety Deposit Box($) there was no charge for either and as I said the mini bar was stocked daily.
We had a great time with some of the staff Emileidy, Ismary and Aylec just to name a few are very freindly and sociable.
4th time to Cuba the best food so far. The buffet always had lots of fish, pork, chicken, and beef to be grilled in front of you cooking staff always seemed happy to be cooking for you and not long lines to wait for a cook.
Pool was nice however people are not to reserve the cabanas but they do so they are very hard to get. You could always find a chair at the pool just not the ones in the cabanas. The cabanas at the ocean were always available and lots of chairs (may have been because of the wind) but there are alot of them.
We did go to the Sol Cayo Coco and the Tryp and found it impossible to even find a chair at the pool. Melia Guillermo however was very nice with sufficeint seats.
All in all we had a very good time a holiday is what you make it.

A Great Vacation at the Melia Cayo Coco

Four People Two Couples... We have traveled to Cayo Coco before, this was a new resort for us. I would highly recommend this resort for all ages over 18. We went to all of the A La Carts. I would highly recommend the Area Real, the other to were just OK. The Buffet was nice, plenty of made to order food, pasta, Fresh Meat, Crepes, Fried Rice. there was lots of Fresh Fruit and Veggies. One of our travelers is a vegetarian and he was happy with the fresh fish and sea food. The Sand is like flour, we always found Sun Chairs at the pool or on the beach. This is a great resort one of the best on the island.
