 Aruba- Holiday Inn Sunspree

As Expected is my choice. The only problem was the Curcao Building, very outdated, needs updating, very noisey and lacks security at night. Someone tried our door in the middle of the night, a little scary.

 Accomodations and services

This was our 17th trip to Aruba in 20 years or so. Perhaps our 4th or 5th stay at Holiday Inn. Enjoyed the friendly people, amenities and the beach.
Room- we stayed at the Aruba tower - big enough for 2 people. Bathroom too small. TV... need upgrade.
Food- We strongly suggest updating of menus for 2 wks period (rather than 1 wk). Even with 4 places to choose from, we found we had to eat several times the same type of meal.
Most people go for 2 wks and would like different menus from wk to wk.
Also very little variety of fish dishes. So close to the sea it was expected more assortment of choices.
Overall evaluation - positive.

 The Island was nice

the Hotel staff and room were nice.
this is a great place for families, the adult activities were next to nothing in the evening(with the exception of the weekend)when the disco was open.
you need to bring $$ and go out on the Town to have Adult fun.

 Good value

a good value if travelling with kids. wouldn't return as a couple. overall we got pretty good value considering it was march break week. i didnt write home about the quality of the rooms, bedding bathrooms or food - it was all pretty basic but still a getaway. i had one negative expereince with the concierge who seemed to prefer serving people in his native language instead of english.

Aruba is awesome the hotel, so so.

It was a place to rest your head. The room was in horrible condition. They called our room the garden -ocean view but what they should have said was parking lot view. We got woken up every night by the club next door or the motorcycles and the garbage trucks.
The food was mediocore and you had to line up and sign for every drink and every meal. The line ups never ended. If you like night life this hotel has none. Its dead by 10pm and you have to go off the resort and spend money to have a nice night life. There is no nightly entertainment by the staff it is just a boring hotel.
The beach is beautiful and the pool is nice except all the kids swim in the adult pool and that can get very annoying. The staff is very friendly. So if you want an all inclusive in Aruba (which I recommend) because Arubas very expensive, its doable but don't have high expectations.

 Revisiting Aruba

This was my 11th visit to Aruba and the Holiday Inn. In my opinion, they need to invest some money in their property. Guaranteed it is one of the oldest resorts on the island, but it wouldn't take much to make it a nicer place to stay. The hotel rooms are clean but too dark. The facilities are good, they have everything you need. I was disappointed in the food that they serve. They clearly need to do something with there buffet dining facility, it reminds me of a cafeteria, it's loud and overcrowded. Lastly, their checkin process needs to be reviewed. It is unorganized, there aren't enough people and they should prepare for the checkin and have packages ready for you when you arrive. You checkin, you then wait around for hours to get into your room since it is a 4pm checkin time, but what is worse is you have to go back to the front desk to get your key. It is such an unorganized way to manage people. As I indicated, I've watched this resort change significantly over the past 5 or 6 years, and it is disappointing.

 Holiday Inn Sunspree in Feb/11

We have traveled to many islands & found the weather excellent . It was the safest island we have been to. You can walk into town (2 hour walk but the beaches are worth the hike )or take public buses ,go out at night etc with no worries.

 Holiday inn aruba

The first room they gave was disgusting. We paid an extra $269 to be upgraded to the newer part of the hotel. I requested a king size bed and received 2 doubles. By paying extra I had a nicer room and a king size. The food was terrible. 1 step up from Cuba. The beach was amazing and the location was amazing. Also, it rained 3 out of 7 days, and this is 3 full days of rain.

 Great getaway

Beautiful beaches, can walk for hours. Found the buffett not very good lots of other restaurants with in walking distance. you can also take the public buses to the next town for a change. Very safe and relaxed place. We rented a jeep and drove the island and seen all the sights that we wanted in one day. Lots to do. Across the road is a shopping center with movie theater and bowling. Great location.

 Holiday Inn Sunspree in Aruba

The hotel was clean, but, the bathroom needed renovating. The view from our room was breath-taking. The pools, beach and ocean were always clean. The water was warm and clear. The weather was perfect, always hot, sunny and with a 24 hour breeze. The nights were comfortable for walking, without too much heat and zero bugs. The food was GREAT (tasty and lots of it). Overall, for the price we spent, we were surprisingly happy with our trip and have no complaints. We recommend ARUBA!!

 Holiday Inn sunspree

Excellent location. Excellent service and friendly staff. Perfect for families. Only complaint is that there is no music during the day, and lack of activities. Needs a little excitement during the day. More variety at the buffet. Pasta bar and pizza would make a huge difference as well as a variety of fish and chicken. Dont need alot of food, just a good variety to choose from. Hotel has a beautiful beach they are not utilizing in the pm. Would be great for a beach party theme in the pm. The carpets in the rooms need to go. Would make clean up easier. Minor enhancements but would make the resort stay perfect. Overall was happy with the resort, and would definatley go back

 Great Escape

My friend and I agreed that this was a wonderful week. The beach was amazing and the ocean refreshingly warm. Staff were great. Food was good but became repetitive at the end of the week. Location is superb and shops/restaurants are just across the road.

 Aruba

The Holiday Inn Sunspree was okay. It is an older hotel and there are no frills. We paid almost $400.00 more to our travel agency to get a room in a specific renovated tower of the hotel, which we did not get. The food was okay. The two pools are small. The drinks are watered down. The best best best part is the beach and the weather. Good news is that it is the cheapest all-inclusive price for the beautiful island of Aruba.

 Holiday Inn Sunspree Aruba

This review is based on a room in the Aruba tower, if you are staying in the Curacao tower expect the ratings to go down a point or 2 - it is very different in terms of quality (not in a good way).

 Wannagoback

I was extremely pleased with this resort/package. When we first arrived we were issued a room above a generator and parking area/terrible view, so I went to the front desk and asked if it was possible to change rooms which they did immediately. Food was better than I expected. the drinks were ammazzzing but I only drank 1 strawberry daiquiri and the rest of the week I drank Miami Vice's YUM YUM YUMMY!!! It's easy to take the bus for about$1.25 each way. Didn't want to leave, cant wait to go back. I WON'T ever go back to Cuba[5 times] or the Dominican Rep. [3times] The SunSpree is definitely a place I would consider having our family's next family reunion at...something for everyone!

Holiday Inn - A holiday from hell.

This was a huge disappointment! I have been to Aruba 17 times prior to this and loved it. This trip was a nightmare. Upon arrival there were small signs with A-K, L-S etc., posted high above reception. If you happened to get in the wrong line up for your last name you were sent to the back of your proper line. I arrived and checked in at 1400 hrs but had to wait til 1630 hrs for my room. Check in was very slow! I went to the bar to get a bottle of water and was told that despite being all inclusive I had to pay $2.55. With previous knowledge of the island I went across the street to a mini mart and bought a bottle for $1.30. I filled this bottle all week from my bathroom tap. I requested a kingsize bed since I was alone and got two doubles. People who needed two double beds got a king. The drawers spelled musty so I kept my clothes in my suitcase in the closet. Although I was told I had been upgraded, the room was run down. It looked like blotches of tar on the carpet. I did not have a bathtub and you had to let the water run in the shower at least 15 minutes before you got hot water. There was a coffee maker in the room with a pouch of coffee. This was not replenished the rest of the week. There was a small sign that read: your "first" cup of coffee is on us. Replacement pouches of coffee had to be purchased. I was lucky and got a fridge, some rooms didn't have any. There was no paper in the room to write on. There was a guide on TV to tell you what the channels were (ex. fox, CNN) but there was no guide to tell you what show was on. I didn't have CNN for 2 days. The food was horrendous and of all my times to Aruba this was the first time I ever got cramps in my stomach the last 2 days I was there. They had different theme nights, Latin, Mexican etc. but the food was always the same all week long! They just changed the theme name.
Breakfast was the same every morning and desserts (something out of a box) was the same. The first night of arrival there was a Bar B Q on the beach. The meat was so tough you couldn't cut it with a knife. Everyone complained and sent it back. At dinner time there was no signs indicating what the food was. Not good for someone who
has allergies. I asked the waiter at breakfast what was served at Seafood night and he told me shrimp and crabs. Perfect since I can eat this despite a huge allergy to fish (deathly). There was no shrimp or crab! I went to the seabreeze restaurant at 2030 hrs and was told that since I didn't have reservations they couldn't feed me. I pointed out there was no one there, only 1/4 full and asked if I could make reservations now. I was told NO and went to bed without any dinner. The childrens menu was also bad. One night they got french fries and egg rolls! This was the first all inclusive that I have ever been to where I've been hungry and had to go buy food. If you went to the front desk to ask a question they completely ignored you for 20 minutes. It was as if you were bothering them and the answer you got was always, I don't know. Upon checkout I asked for a receipt showing I had no charges and they wouldn't give me one! This resort made money off of me since I don't drink and usually walked in and looked at the same food every day and went somewhere else to eat. This was a very disappointing vacation. For people visiting the island of Aruba for the first time it gave a very bad impression. I will never recommend the Holiday Inn but I would go back to the Riu or Hyatt.

 GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY....

We arrived at the hotel, were given wristbands for the week, and checked in. It was fast and our room was ready. The room had two double beds, fridge, air con, tv with cable, and a modern bathroom with a large shower. The maid came in daily to tidy and clean the room. She did an amaxing job. We spent the entire vacation on the beautiful white beach soaking up the sun. The hotel's beach bar provided great lunch fare ranging from chicken wings and burgers to tuna wraps and fruit salads. The service was always quick and friendly. The daily buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner was somewhat competitive; however, it was always constistently good. Staff in the buffet area were always warm, friendly and very helpful. The grounds were very clean from the beach to the casino. The Holiday Inn may not have been the 'best' hotel on the strip but it has the BEST 200m of beachfront! There were visitors from everywhere including Brazil, Canada, Argentina, Holland, UK, France, and the US. The atmosphere was very relaxed at the hotel regardless of race, sexual orientation, age, and size.

 Holiday INN Sunspree

If it wasn't for the beautiful beach, this would have been the worst vacation. Do not stay in the Curacao Tower (they say its newly renovated...its not) the Curacao has not even been touched yet. The bathrooms in the room are disgusting. Upon arrival the power was out & they weren't very accommodating. The food wasn't that great...the a la carte restaurants were impossible to get into unless you lined up at 5am to make a reservation (i didn't get to go to one not once). If you want a descent lunch go to the seabreeze grill...thats a safe bet. If you can afford to pay a bit more for trip pay it & stay at one of the nicer resorts.

 I will return

We went expecting the worst after reading previous evaluations but the price was great for Aruba. You do need to line up at the towel hut to book a palapa (630am) on the beach if you want to be near the bar.Your room # is registered for the day. There are 2 pools.A children pool, and adults only.On the Sunday the pool area was overrun with children in the adult pool. This was due to a large Family day,(company picnic).I found out there are 4-5 of these family days usually each Sunday starting in May.That is a good day to stay on the beach.
Most of the 190 vacationers on the aircraft were all shuttled to the holiday inn (8pm) in great order but at checkin it backed up ,1/2-1 hr checkin time for most.I had read horror stories about the rooms in Curaco tower and as we checked in I enquired as to the cost to upgrade to bonaire tower. $30 /night.
They said we would have to return in the morning if we choose to upgrade. Upon entering our assigned room we were pleasantly surprised. The bathroom recently rebuilt,AC frosty, the ssfe is at eye level ,hot water,tv remote.extra pillows. Everything A1. We choose to keep this room.
Food in the buffet was not as warm as I would have preferred.
To book the A la carts line up at 730am.
Food was always hot but slow coming.
Although proper dinner attire is requested for a la carts, they allow men with dress shorts and shirts and ladies with capris..THIS IS GREAT!!! THIS IS WHY I WILL RETURN>!!!

 Hotel Room

This was our 2nd. stay at this hotel. Last year the same tower in which we stayed was quite nice. This year the room that we were assigned in the same tower ( #7 ), was in very bad need of repairs. The air conditioning unit was leaking and the floor was very wet. The bathroom sink stopper was not working. We needed to call the plumber in. The remote control for the T.V. was not working. The balcony had no chairs to sit out on. We had to call for chairs. The bathroom sink taps kept leaking. That was very annoying. From last year to this year there was a lot of wear and tear to this tower as we heard several other people from this tower complaining about their rooms.
Hospitality was excellent.

 Amazing weather

Well you can't beat the weather in aruba! After reading the reviews and now having been there I understand why some people gave bad reviews. There is nothing wrong with this resort. If you are use to travelling only 4.5 - 5 star all inclusive hotels in the carribean I can see why some people posted bad comments. It is not a place where people are there to cater to every whim. The hotel is clean and aruba is great. They do have a bad check in arrangement and yes there are some lines but a vacation is what you make of it. We never did get an a la carte as we were not going to wait in line. We also never got a cabana again I am not waiting in line at 6am but there was shade from trees if you wanted it. We also got a great last minute price on the hotel which also would change the review. If you are a pool person this resort would not be for you as the pool is very small.
