I wish I had known about a senior spring break trip in advance I would have chosen another hotel.

Reserved a suite with two queen sized beds for the family and had to go back to the front desk two times to get what we had paid for.

Buffet was OK but it never changed all week. Each night was a different team but the food remained the same every night. The a la carte restaurants were good with a limited menu but one menu item was always not available.

Lots of porc and ham at the buffet but the bacon was missing on a daily basis.

this was our 7th time to this resort.its good for the prices .1ooo.oo or less per person but some paid a lot more. its getting a make over so should be nice in 2 yrs. great pizza at pizza hut 5 min. away at mall. staff are friendly but way to many trying to sell you time share.very clean.food is good but not any french fries at beach or chicken that we had other years. and no bacon. we had a lot better food for same price at other resorts. but overall it was good

it was awesome .The entertainment was wonderful.

This my fourth time there, and will be the last!!!!! Staff great, the management at service desk seemed not happy too serve you. Room on the first day would get electrical shock in bathroom reported it to the desk on day we lift not repaired. Plastic wheels on the two bed were were broke reported it not fix the day we lift. Order a hair dryer never received it, and so on and so on. We are not fussy people but I do believe we deserved better service.

On vacation Jan.30 to feb. 6 2012. we had a great time. Overall the resort was as I remembered from our previous times there. From the dining room staff, bartenders, animation team to the font desk staff, everyone was welcoming and friendly. We would go back there in a heart beat.Great beach

Beyond expectations.

A QUIET PLACE WHERE YOU OR YOUR FAMILY CAN CHILL....PEOPLE ARE VERY FRIENDLY AND ACCOMMODATING...FOOD VARIETY WAS DECENT...ENTERTAINMENT STAFF VERY COOL....OVERALL, A GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR MONEY AND QUALITY.......

The room was spacious, bright and clean. Wonderful mattresses. Huge balcony. Heated bathroom floor ! Staff was very nice but most did not understand alot of English. Entertainment was very nice with a large turnout. Beach is exceptional, clean with lots of chairs. Biggest complaint was the food. Very little variety, few veggies and even less fruit. And COLD . We did not have a hot breakfast and supper at the buffet restaurant. They used an egg "mixture" for the omelets, not very tasty. We only had bacon one morning. Lunch at the beach bar was nice and hot. Thankfully there was pizza !

Great holiday - except no warm water for showering

Friendly hard working staff. Resort under-going renovations, always kept very clean. Staff always greets you good morning, or hello, anywhere on the grounds. More than expected after reading some reviews before booking with this resort. Excellent location if you are into golfing, 2 minute walk to the clubhouse. If planning on golfing more than once, ask for a green fee package deal. Very beautiful and challenging coarse. There is no swim up bar at this resort, we Canadians love swim up bars. Pool and area around the pool very clean at all times, there is even a kiddies pool for the little ones. The main buffet restaurant was always clean and well staffed. They have 3 A le carte restaurants that have to be booked at the main front desks. The resort is very large and spread out. The grounds were always being cleaned and worked on. Very easy to navigate thru them. The resort offers all different kinds of activities, by pool side and beach area.
The beach was beautiful and never a problem getting lounge chairs. The chairs were comfortable also. They had a bar and snack area at the beach, the snacks were, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, and chicken wings,french fries and salad. The staff at the beach bar even came out to the beach area and served you on the beach. There was alot of vendors on the beach, but they were very respectful of you saying No to them, I give them alot of respect for the job they do. They work on commission. For what they have to carry around all day. My partner and I went on the Buggy tour, it was an amazing time, We just wish we knew that we would be getting covered from head to toe in mud and mucky water, so if you take the buggy tour, wear old shorts and shirt and shoes, because you will be getting very dirty, But you will have an amazing time doing it. My partner went snorkelling 1 day, and she said the colours of the fish were amazing and they eat right out of your hands. So overall, the resort and all they had to offer was an excellent deal for the price we paid.

found this resort very nice, clean and friendly staff. there are not a lot of bells and whistles, but for the price we were satisfied. Great Beach!

This was our second time at Celuisma. We were there this time last year as well. This is a 3 1/2 star and it is advertised as that. If anyone goes and expects 5 star for the 3 1/2 star price has nothing to complain about. The staff works very hard and is constantly cleaning. Everyone was friendly and our vacation was seamless. I understand that Celuisma will no longer be an all inclusive anymore as it is being developed as a time share next year. We will miss the old Celuisma.

I would not send people to this location

Things to know:
Wi-Fi access = $25 for 25 hours, cheaper for less, $60 for unlimited for the week - it was a fast enough for me to not notice a lag on my ipod touch.

There is a really good weight room if you lift weights like I do (squat, bench press etc.) not so good if you want to do some light cardio.

We never went to the A la cartes - the buffets always had something we liked to eat.

cheep and cheerful - hotel was nice

Tres bel endroit, la plage est tres grande et bien entretenu mais il y a beaucoup de vendeurs, mais si ont les regarde pas , ils passent sans trop nous achaller. ont a voyage en groupe et avec des ados, ont as tous bien apprécier notre semaine. Si vous passez a cet hotel, n'oubliez pas d'aller saluer Francois a son restaurant et d'y deguster un excellent repas, il est situe au bout de la plage a gauche.

Hotel was not too busy. Standard clean room with 2 queen beds. Bathroom looks like it was recently retiled. Clean towels everyday with fresh flowers on towel to brighten your day. A nice added touch. Food was good, lots to eat any time during the day at the main buffet restaurant, pool bar or beach bar. Snack also put out at 11:00 pm. Activities staff were all so friendly and mingled with the guests. There was always activities going on during the day by the pool or beach if you wished to participate in. In the evening the staff put on dance shows, bingo night, karokee night. There was always something to entertain the guests. Beach was very big and had no problem to get a lounge mid day. Didn't have to get up in the morning to save a lounge at the beach or pool which was nice. Good vacation we got everything what we were expecting for the price and would go back.

I read many negative reviews, but this turned out to be a great 3-star resort. The food was not great, but more than met our needs. The room was updated and kept clean the whole time. The pool and beach areas were really nice and there were no problems finding available loungers. All the staff were very friendly, especially the animation staff, they really made our stay fun. We hope to be able to return.

Troisième fois dans cet hôtel. La nourriture nous a plu à nouveau, mais un peu moins qu'avant. Les installations se dégradent : pas d'eau chaude, climatisation à réparer, toilettes défectueuses, électricité sporadique, portes qui ne ferment pas...

The weather was fantastic and the people were great, but it was obvious that there were not enough employees to handle the number of guests. The shows were okay. The food was okay except for any red meat. We ran out of warm water in the shower twice and there was no hair dryer in the room. All bars continually ran out of liquor daily and the staff never knew when more was arriving. Our maid was friendly.

This was our 4th trip to the resort. First and foremost the staff are incredible. They all treat us very well. The beach is beautiful. We never went hungry, BUT the food has deteroiated alot since our last visit. The variety is not there, never any bacon for breakfast for eg. They are trying to renovate and the rooms all need to be upgraded, but are suffice. No resort should run out of basics during a day, like coke, diet coke, paper towels, toilet paper. This happened a couple days.

We found the staff to be very attentive to the needs of families with young children. When we had a problem with the locks, someone came to fix them that very day. We were pleasantly surprised by the helpfulness of the front desk staff. The room was gorgeous, including a brand new bathroom. Lots of variety at the buffet, we like the Dominican dishes the best.

A little bit of constructive criticism: there was WAY too much Celine Dion and Shania Twain being played at the beach. I go to the Dominican Republic because I love the culture... I want to hear LOTS of merengue. Also, being refused access to certain parts of the resort on account of religious background was surprising, to say the very least.

Oh! And if you're thinking of resting on the beach, you should be aware that some of the vendors walk past SHOUTING VERY LOUD, in particular "Opportuuuuuuuuuuuunity" and "I got the monkey. Monkey see, monkey do." The first time it was kind of funny. The twenty thousandth time, it was not.

This was our third vacation in the Dominican Republic and the first time we brought our parents, who loved it. It was also our first overseas trip with our then 20 month old son, who love love LOVED it. There was lots to do and see. We would likely come again if the price was right. It wasn't a 4 star, but overall, it did exceed my expectations of a 3 star. Well done, Celuisma Playa Dorada!

Review of Celuism Puerto Plata January 21 to February 4, 2011.
Overall rating 3. We should have been advisd that there was a Jewish group taking over half the resort and that we would not have access to full services.
This hotel is diamond in the ruff, has lots of potential needs mostly maintenance, painting, cosmetics, replace burnt light bulbs, etc, it is an old hotel....you get what you pay for.
We are have been traveling for over ten yrs and have visited many resorts.
We flew out of Tornto with Thomas Cook, everything was fine.
Rooms; Hotel is being renovated, we were in the a renovated room which was clean (rate as a 4) but lacked a hair dryer and fridge for the first few days. Rooms were cleaned daily, slow with bringing clean towels, key for door had to be reprogramed regularly at least every second day. No shampoo, hair conditioner or body lotion, bring your own. Airconditioner was noisy sounded like a 747 starting up.
Food: We are not fussy eaters, (rate as 3.5) the food was good, at the buffet line ups were small and moved quickly, adaquate selection continually replenshed as needed. Beach grill had the best fried chiken for lunch and served great pizza after 4:00. A La Cartes’ were easy to book generaly food was good but no better than the buffet (the selection was different).
Beach: Hard to rate it was very nice golden sand easy to walk for hours in either direction. Plenty of loungers but they are old. Beach in front of the hotel was very nice and most guest played in the water rather than spend time at the pool. Many vendors on the beach but if you say no they generaly move on. A few time share reps. that you have to run from.
Beach Grill; bar service was good at times there are line ups. Washrooms could be kept cleaner during the day. We could only use part of the seating are at the grill as a large section was reserved for King Solomon (Jewish) group. Tables could be kept cleaner.
Gym: It was suppose to be open at 8:00, but was not open, we had to crawl in through a window. We took the liberty of opening the gym ourselves at 7:00, the manager said he would look into it but never got back to us. Equipment was old but everything works.
Many guest were upset with the King Solomon Group (Jewish group from New York), while they ate in a differnt area their children took over the pool area, lobby bar, kids were up until midnight, etc. Many guest said they would not come back to this resort because of them. The Italian A La Carte was not available as they were using this area. A portion of the hotel facility was off limits to us. Because of this group many guest would not return to this hotel.

Really nice hotel, food is good, rooms are clean, and most of all very friendly staff. You have to pay for Internet and locker in room even they say it's free. I had a good time

When we booked the hotel we were delighted that there were so many great reviews for it - we thought we hit the jackpot. Not so much, we won't be going back and we thought that a lot of information was withheld that we would have appreciated knowing up front.

First - the good stuff:
- The hotel staff is helpful. You could wish for a bit more English knowledge, but it was bearable and they were helpful for the most part.
- The room was kept nice and clean.
- The food was better than expected.
- The beach and water is awesome. The vendors on the beach were respectful to us saying no.
- The animation team and evening entertainment had good energy and was enjoyable.

The bad stuff:
- We got a REALLY bad room the first night. We couldn't sleep for the loud air conditioning, the toilet wouldn't stop flushing, the tub didn't drain, there was no balcony - all around not bad. We got the room changed the next day, and it seemed like it was the norm that everyone had to change the first room they received.

- Half of the resort was turned into "King Solomon Kosher Resort" which had the effect that many areas were sealed off as private, including two a la carte restaurants not being available and half of the beach bar/restaurant area was off limits. A pig roast on the beach was cancelled without a good explanation (the only one that makes sense is that hundreds of kosher customers wouldn't want to be surrounded by the smell of roasting pork), and the group belonging to that part of the resort were getting priority treatment at the reception and bar areas.

Essentially, the hotel was what we would expect from a 3.5 star resort, but we did not expect to be denied some of the highlights we were looking forward to, or to be treated as second-rate customers.

This Hotel is "you get what you pay for"
It is in a great location, and the beach is beautiful, do not go with high expectations, the food is horrible,, we have been travelling for 10 years and always at 3*, have never gotten sick until this vacatin,, everyone that we met there had tummy aches... the last 4 days of my vacation was spent drinking bottled water, and feeling so sick,, we were told by a worker on the beach that this hotel was the worst on the strip for food, and not to drink the water or use the ice...
