 Best Resort!!!

This was our second visit to the resort. We got married, and spend out honeymoon at Dreams in April 2012. For the wedding we have brough another 13 guests with us which all loved the resort as much as we do. The wedding coordinator, and wedding services all were amazing! The food and the staff are fantastic! We stayed in the preffered tower this time, and it is worth every penny! The staff even remembered us from our last visit, and are always extremely friendly. The only issue that we had is with the complimentary "Eternity honeymoon package".It is a great package, but not all the staff was aware of what the package included, and we had to remind them to do some of the things as per the package. If you do get any sort of extra package in the preffered tower, talk to "Salvador" upon arrival as he knows these packages very well, and you won't have to keep reminding the resort for the details. Eitherway, we love Dreams PV and will deffinately vacation there again in the future. I highly reccomend you get involved in some of the activities thrown by the entertainment team.

 Our Dream Vacation at

My husband and I went to "Dreams" to surprise some friends we hadn't seen in 25 years. We arrived 5 hours before they did and decided to check out as many of the restaurants as possible. No resort bracelets needed at this place. Just your room #. Its a gated resort with a guard house at the entrance. No-one comes in that doesn't belong or invited. Our friends had a couple staying at another resort in town and they were allowed for $50.USD each to join us for a day from 9am-6pm and enjoy everything the resort had to offer. They said it was the best money they'd spent. We had an appetizer at one, lunch at another and dessert at another. Then we had to check out a few of the bars. I thought for sure they were going to radio the restaurants ahead and tell them to cut us off (but they never did). From the room (and we had the cheapest without a balcony)was great. We were on the 7 floor in the middle of the bldg. that faces directly onto the beach (all rooms have ocean view.) The bldg. at the end is for preferred guests. Rooms are fancier (with balconies and some with jacuzies on their balconies.) Our room had a wall of glass with the sliding glass door that opened up and it was just as good as a balcony. People were hardly ever on their balconies because the noon sun until sunset would shine directly on it and it was too hot. A/C in room perfect. The room was cleaned twice daily. Turn-down service at night and re-cleaned bathroom with fresh towels. We had a king size bed, couch, chairs, table, safe, TV, mini fridge stocked daily (it was free to use) The staff were so friendly - never have I experienced such good people. They work long hours and 6/days/week but always polite and smiling. The beach was pristine. The water was cold (must be time of year)and the waves broke very close to shore, some pretty big and would pick up all the sand. Most people swam in the 3 pools. Swim up bar/family pool (Big), infinity adult pool with hot-tub, and a smaller more private pool - that everyone could use. It was used a lot by the wedding parties for their reception. I was lucky enough to witness 2 weddings (1 on the beach) and one in the gazebo overlooking the beach. Both magnificent. The staff would rake the beach every morning and really clean up every little fallen flower when preparing for weddings. I've never seen anything like it and I've traveled the world. 5 Restaurants all top class. Only in the Italian Rest. did the men have to wear long pants and polo shirt type attire, otherwise nice shorts and Tee-shirts were suitable. Ladies in sundresses and shorts and tees were fine. Newsletter would be laid on bed every night to let you know what was happening the following day. There was "Bon-fire" night with dancing to live rock and roll band on the beach under the stars, Kareoke Night, Fire Dancer Night, Mexican night - all with beautifully prepared tables on the beach with buffet style food all around. Carribean night with pirate style outfits; just to name a few. The restaurants were transformed at night into a magical dining experience with all small white tube lights wrapped around all the poles and some trees (glistened like stars) and candles everywhere. Vendors would come a few times a week at night and set up their tables around the main pool area. They were fun to bargain with and you didn't have to worry if the silver was real as the resort has a contract with them and they must sell real jewelry or they will not be allowed back on the resort grounds. Its a $50 peso or $5.00 US charge for the 10 minute taxi ride into town - to the Malacon area (main boardwalk along the beach with lots of stores, vendors, restaurants, bars, etc.-Main area for us touristos.) Spent 3 1/2 hours bargaining and went back to resort for lunch. Never left resort after that - which is unusual for us. There was just no reason - we had everything and more right at our fingertips. Its good to leave a few dollars on the bed in the morning and night as there are 2 different people cleaning your room and the staff at the restaurants and bars we always tipped ($2 for buffet breakfast, $5 lunch and $10 dinner) as there was always 4 of us for lunch & dinner. My husband and I even had a massage. He stayed inside the bldg. and I got to go out to the white tents overlooking the beach. There was one problem. I did not wear any clothes under my robe and there are no curtains in the front and back part of the white spa tent. People on the beach can look right up and see everything as well as the 2 guys that were waiting for their massage, sitting in the jacuzzi and a chair behind me up against the spa bldg. and my massage guy didn't close the curtain that was open to the Preferred bldg. side; so needless to say I had him hold up a big towel in front of me to block the beach; and the people on their balconies at the preferred bldg. got to see a baby beluga laid out in all my glory until he covered me up. I did mention it to management that the cabanas must have curtains all the way around. Hopefully they will do that in the future. There were other ladies that were embarrassed also - but they had their husbands to hold up towels for them. (Or just wear your bathing suit when getting a massage outside). That was my only little hic-cup for the 7 days of our stay. Another friend we met, who I didn't know was also coming on this trip stayed in the Preferred Bldg. overlooking the outside spa cabanas; and she said it's an on-going joke in her bldg., if you're bored go out and sit on your balcony and watch us "spa" people bare all - some even have binoculars. (I knew it) The massage therapist was amazing though. The one thing that was my husbands' pet pieve - was you had to pay $70.00 USD/week to have wi-fi. At a 5 star plus resort, to have to pay for internet just seemed ridiculous; as many cheaper 3 star hotels include it for free or have free areas to use it at (usually pool and bar areas) but not at "Dreams". To end my story I would say - it was a vacation that only the rich and famous experience, except we're not rich or famous but the "Dreams" staff sure made us feel like we were. I would like to visit other Dreams resorts; as I never like to go back to the same resort twice, for the simple reason, you can never re-create the first time at any resort and there are too many wonderful places to see and stay and make brand new memories.

The name says it all... DREAMS....

This was my 3rd trip to Puerto Vallarta and all 3 times I stayed at the Dreams Puerto Vallarta...

If you are looking for a GREAT place to stay with GREAT food and AMAZING staff this is the place for you!!!

The resort itself is 5 star, it’s Beautiful and it has a private beach...

The food even Chef Ramsey would approve...

The staff make you feel like a KING...

This place is Paradise...

The only way it could be better is if you stay longer...

I doubt you could find a better place... Each time I’ve come here I stayed for a week, next time I’m staying for 2 weeks.... I just love it here...

 Dreams is a dream

this is the only resort we have gone to twice, and it will be top on our list for our next vacation. I love that the beach is private, we had an amazing room in the pref. sect.and spent a lot of time relaxing in the tub on the balcony, watching whales, sunsets, and the beach view. This building is very close to the ocean, what a great spot, we felt it was very worth the extra expense. The staff was so friendly and personal, from Monica and her massages and sales, to the guys selling their wares on the beach (never pushy or in your face) to the bartenders, all just going out of their way to make our vacation wonderful.
Keep in mind this is an older but exceptionally well maintained resort, not the overdone shiny marble everywhere kind, just a really warm great mexican feel. The food here is so good that you won't eat in town you'll come back to the resort.
Dreams PV isn't just a resort or holiday destination, but an experience.

Dreams great- but starting to show its age

Food is great. Beach is super nice, staff are fabulous and friendly. Lots of beach chairs and palapas available. Rooms showing their age, need some paint, attention to details- beds super comfy and soft
Some things need attention- we looked at menus that were stained and torn, some chair cushions were ripped and stained. The resort will start to look run down if these things are not tended to

 Good Choice

Everything as expected at this level.
Very good: reception, room (big, much light, clean, good beds), food (very good), beach(clean, sandy, good service on the b., good towel policy), water (clean, sandy platform, some waives...), transportation (to/from hotel), surroundings (clean, beautiful)
Less good things:- noisy ice maker on the third floor (why this kitchen oriented tool is in the hotel aria?), and very bad (or no) policy regarding when the ice should be scooped (not at 6:00AM, and not at 3;30PM by all means).
- poor entertainment (especially the "Mexican Fiesta" on Fridays), too long to wait for the show only on some very poor jokes therefore most of the guests lived after one hour of "nothing"...

 Fantastic Place

WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC, WILL GO BACK AGAIN FOR SURE! one small thing and it's not a big deal, the pools are a little small for the size of the resort, it wasn't busy when we went so they weren't too bad, but at a busy season it would be too crouded for sure. The food was the best we have ever had at any resort, the rooms were clean the service was great, and the room service was awesome. We stayed in the old tower and loved the room & the view, we always tipped the morning maid and the evening maid for turn down service, they were alway so sweet with a big smile! the fridge was always full and if you ran out of beer they would restock at just a call! the beach was lovely and private we really enjoyed the turtle release, everyone was asked not to take pictures because the flash could blind the turtles and they would not be able to make it to the ocean, but of course there are always a few that didn't care and took the pictures anyway (terrible)!! I could go on for ever but will end with this (Best Food Ever!)

 Second time at dreams

Although we heard a few complaints about how old the hotel was, I was not looking for an "American glam" style hotel. It is old, but you have to enjoy that as part of it's charm. the food is very good. staff is excellent.

5 star service, 3 star rooms

Overall a good experience except for the rooms. I was frustrated to have booked and paid for a 5-star resort, only to end up with a 3-star room. We were offered an upgrade to the newer tower, but quotes ranged from $250 to $850 for this change. In my opinion, one should not have to pay to upgrade to get what one paid for in the first place. Very friendly staff and wonderful food. Restaurants were great -- good service and delicious meals.

 Very good all-round

The staff and food are excellent. We had a regular room in the older building. This was definitely not five-star. The junior suite at the "Preferred Club" however, is five-star. The older building needs a refit pronto. Once again, it is the staff that made a huge difference.
Food is great. Many activities for the kids. Overall feeling is secure and well managed.

Doesn't quite live up to the hype...

We've been to over 15 AI Mexico resorts and this is our 2nd stay at a Dreams property. This property is old and in desperate need of updating. Overall, it seems that the facilities they have are not adequate enough for the number of rooms on the property - it felt crowded most everywhere we went. The one and only buffet is small - the hot food was always cold, and most of it was fried... not very appetizing. The a-la-carte restaurants had much better food (really delicious!) but slooooooow service. The main pool is on the smallish side, jam-packed with people, and had loungers crammed into three rows (no privacy). The "quiet pool" serves only as an overflow for the main pool so isn't quiet at all. The beach, however, is lovely, large and clean. The gentle waves provided lots of boogie-boarding fun. Our room was clean but old. The beds were VERY comfortable but the sheets didn't fit properly so every morning we woke up in a ball of fabric! The lighting in the bathroom was pathetic. The air conditioning was OK but there was no ceiling fan to move the air around. The main thing this resort has going for it is the staff... they are friendly and helpful. And all of them work very, very hard to make sure that you are getting great service.

We wouldn't go back to this Dreams property, but we will try another Dreams resort in the future.

 Lots of Fun

We had a great time on our honeymoon at Dreams. The best part was the food...and the boogie boarding. The worst part was that there was not much to do once the sun went down. The entertainment was okay. Definitely not a party resort...but that's a good thing.

The staff was amazingly friendly. They tried to put us in a room with two double beds to begin with...and then moved us to a room directly beside the elevators...which was very noisy. Our third room was great though...very clean and comfortable.

Bring bug spray though...I had a ton of bug bites from the beach I think.

 An overall great vacation spot!

We had a wonderful time. The staff couldn't' have been better. The food was lovely and well presented. The entertainment was also great! We needed a doctor while we were there and the service for that was perfect. I highly recommend this resort to anyone. They catered to the children as well as the adults. It was big enough for a good time and small enough that one didn't get lost. The activities for the children were outstanding. A great family resort!

Fantastic resort overall. Would definitely recommend. Overall great choice if you are looking for a relaxing vacation. It's mainly couples, families, and older people. Not really the place to go if you want to party at the resort, but the staff does organize trips to downtown for nightlife, which is only a 5 minute cab ride.

 Dreamy

We had a great week. Food & drinks consistently very good. Yoga on the beach was lovely. Not really a great swimming beach, as the waves were quite strong and the water chilly. But that's also in comparision to the carribean side of Mexico, which has the warm turquoise water. Definitely worth it to upgrade to the Preferred Tower. Our suite was beautifully appointed and very luxe. We had access to a hospitality suite, located in the old tower, on the day we left and the room was more along the lines of a 3*. It gets a bit chilly at night here because of the proximity to the mountains, so make sure you pack for it. We wished we had more sweaters etc. for sitting out in the evenings.

 Mixed feelings on this one

I was ready to write a really bad review after 2 days but over the week it got better and the service wins you over so it is not all bad.
Even my wife, who was angry about the food poising had a lot of good things to say but I do not think we would return.
This trip was me, my wife and our 10 year old son.
Got there at night, check in was smooth, polite and friendly front desk.
Spoke to a few people prior to check and they said we will LOVE this resort
so our expectations were very high.
No champagne upon arrival :-( but to our surprise, probably in leiu of the champagne was a bottle of Tequila and a fruit platter along with a personalized letter was waiting for us in our room. It was a nice touch ! Bell hop brought up our bags, real nice guy, did a nice job of welcoming us etc (room had nicely stocked mini-bar etc.)
We are SO used to going downstairs at night and kicking back some live music and entertainment in PVR but this night there was only a live band for a small amount of time in the small lounge. Did not feal really welcome there with our 10 yr old. This was odd because all of the resorts we stayed at had an open floor lounge where families would gather etc. Waitresses at the lounge gave a weak service and seemed a bit grumpy.
Bartender was working very hard at keeping up. ONE BARTENDER in the lounge at night !!! He was working so hard and rushed that my drink tasted of wet dish water.
2nd day was rainy, not much to do but looked forward to at least having some entertainment. The entertainment for the night was watching the Oscars.
This was a huge disappointment because I could care less about the Oscars and even if I did I could have watched that at home. So unless we left the resort this was going to be a boring night.
That night we had dinner at the seaside grill. My wife got very sick from a chicken dinner she had there.
She was sick all night (vomiting, diharrea etc) and never left the room for 2 days.
For the rest of the week she could barely eat.
Now for the pros and cons of this resort.
The resort looks beatiful.
It is very clean.
The staff keep it very clean.
The rooms are clean (we stayed in the old tower).
The maid was very friendly and did a great job, we tipped her $5 usd each day including when we checked out, she deserved at least that.
The beds were comfy but my family and many others that I spoke to around the pool were covered in bug bites that we woke up with each morning. The front desk said they were sand bugs but some people never left the pool area still woke up covered in bites.
Every room has an amazing view and we even saw many dolphins in the moring swimming close to shore.
Great curtains, they can block out the sun for a total dark and cool room even on the hottest sunny days. The fan in our bathroom never worked even once so make sure you shave BEFORE you shower so you can see in the mirror.
The waves are very loud at night but we liked it.
They have a kids club there but it is more for LITTLE kids, our boy is 10 and we like him to be with us anyway. For us, we are a FAMILY and are not into dumping our kids off while we go do the real fun stuff.
The food. We experienced all the restaurants but the Portofino because it is ADULTS ONLY (very disappointed with that) !!! So we could not eat there with our quiet well behaved son.
We actually really disliked most of the food and not just because my wife got sick.
My son and I had the NY steak a few times at the Seaside grill, it was awesome (but aside from a hamburger at the barefoot grill it was the only "simple" food you could find there) !
The problem is that the resort has like 98% high pallet fancy gourmet food. The kind of stuff Gordon Ramsay would eat ......NOT US ! Almost all people we spoke to raved about the food so I realize we are the exception but it made it hard for us to eat sometimes.
Even stuff like macaroni and cheese for the kids was like a soup !
This was the first resort we went to where you stuggled to find a simple BLT , Grilled Cheese sandwich, roast chicken or a Pizza or something. Almost everything was covered in some sort of mystery sauce or had so many ingredients you were sure to hate 5 or 6 of them.
Breakfast was really good though. There was fancy stuff there but there was also simple bacon, eggs, toast, muffins etc etc etc......loved the breakfast !!!
The ambience:
It does not get any better ! 5 stars all the way, especially the seaside at sunset !
The service staff. Really nice! Alejandro, Jose, Manuel, Sergio, Fernando and everyone else exceeded any service we have ever had anywhere. Make sure you tip them. People tip for crappy service all over the world, if anyone deserves a big tip it is these guys ! The drinks were great. I even asked for a double a few times and they made them nice and strong for me.
The pools are awesome, there are a few of them. There is even one kind of under some trees where the older folks go to kick back. But the main pool is great. It is big, has a swim up bar and a hot tub as well as a kids pool. It is layed out so nicely that you could have 20 people playing volleyball at one end, kids in the kiddie area and people lounging on the other end and grabbing drinks all in harmony.
The pool staff. These guys are awesome, especially Israel. You would think he personally owns the resort. He goes out of his way to make sure you are having a good time. This resort is very lucky to have a guy like him there.
The entertainment was minimal in comparison to other resorts we have stayed at around Mexico but when they did have the entertainment is was very very good. This place really needs a stage in the worst way. One with props and a backstage dressing room. Also they need to open the floor plan to the lounge so it is not so TRAPPED and CONFINED. Another thing is they should have LIVE music every night , Spanish music, not the crappy people doing covers of american songs.
We should not have to leave the resort to kick back and listed to some live music at night
, especially the families. I would come back here when the kids are grown or if there was at some live musica at night. Come on guys ! It is a big resort, spend the extra few bucks and get some good local music in there EVERY NIGHT !
Beach was ok but a bit rough. We have been to resorts where there are over 100 people swimming, this one only had a few people brave enough to actually swim. They did have a full time well equipped lifeguard though.
The location is the best. Not in town but very close
