 Santa Fe April 2014

Overall a good experience. Odour issue was the only negative, which was addressed eventually

Resort is meticulously clean and maintained. Resort was busy, but never any lineups.

Les points faibles
Entertainment was weak - I would have expected better of a 4.5 star hotel. Room/building had a sewer issue which led to odours, but that was fixed by end of week.

 Awesome Vacation

RIU Santa Fe exceeded our expectation. Very friendly and helpful staffs, food and drinks were incredible, program in the hotel is exceptional. Security was great as well as they have to deal with a lot of spring breakers during our stay.

Beautiful! First couples trip, couldn't be happier! So clean, well organized, tons of staff to help you (most had good English...) lots of food and drink.

Les points faibles
Spring breakers made the resort a little loud and less desirable at this time of year. Would be nice if pools stayed open till after sunset, swim up bars till 8pm or so-but that's petty ideas, overall not much for weak at all!

 Great Resort but.....

we had a great time here for the first week then the spring breakers showed up from Michigan they are rude arrogant and can't grasp a simple concept of a lineup they but in front at the buffets and the bars.they get drunk to the point they are puking in the pools and on pathways. They tried to start fights with other guests and use language that should not be used in front if children I will not be going here at this time of year again. I think the travel agents should be warning people of this when they book

 Almost a great holiday

First of all, the staff was fab, service exc., food was very good, variety..all top drawer, as you would expect. My one negative? I am a Riu class member, I opt for Riu's when I have a choice, and always used to getting ocean view, or at least partial view, upper floor etc. This hotel shows in there pices the property next door, the palace, which is 90% ocean front. The only building in Sante Fe facing ocean is bldg 7. If you are in 2,3,4,5 etc, you face the pool, which is granted, quite nice, but you could get the open lot behind. If I went back,I'd go up a Jr Suite, and/or guaranteed Bldg 7, or just go to the Palace if similar price after upgrade.Granted this year is a bad year to expect anything other than what you pay for, they were dead full, we couldn't extend our stay either, no rooms, so they have you in wherever they want. But overall, its a very good resort all-in. Riu's always are.

Great staff, decent food, not too crowded, even when sold out. Well spaced dinner areas, doesn't feel crowded and you feel 4-5 stars.

Les points faibles
Rooms stretch way back far from ocean, no views in 4 of 6 buildings. My only downside. I guess you gotta go Jr suite and pay more, so be it.

 Overall experience

Very good but the hotel could have new satellite TVs in the rooms rather than the old style TV sets.A lot of Canadian customers would like to stay informed about what is happening back home, CBC and TNN would be nice. They could have elevators for the upper floors as well due to some older people with leg and back problems.

The RIU Santa Fe is a huge complex 904 rooms spread over many acres, manicured grounds, large well kept rooms, very friendly staff, top shelf booze and wonderful food the buffet resturants are better than the specialty resturants.....my only issue is the walking (no rides available) between the beach and the main buildings and square

 Best trip yet! Fantastic time.

It was my first stay at a Riu chain, and won't be my last!

The flight was good and on time. Check in at the hotel was fast and easy, plus they put a cold drink in your hand right away. In the front lobby they also have free wifi for 90 min a day(it is very slow though), you can buy better wifi if you wish.

Our room was spacious, with comfortable beds(but who really notices the beds when you pass out after lots of Bahama Mamas in the sun). Bathroom was clean, with lots of room for our stuff. Our view off the balcony was of the Riu Palace next door, so it wasn't the best, but for the amount of time you spend in your room, why complain about a view!!
I had read somewhere building 7 has the best location and views, and I did go check that building out. Its right by a pool, buffet, ocean, etc..so definitely try to request building 7!!

There is plenty of pools and swim up bars on this resort. On our trip, we spotted a pool that seemed to be consumed by more young people vs old people, with a more lively atmosphere, so we made that one our favorite. It had a beautiful millennium pool effect overlooking the ocean!

The food at the buffets(there are 2) had a wide variety, and just like on all resorts, some was just alright, others was great. Highly recommend the pasta!! Breakfast buffet was always really good as well.
We ate at all a la carte's except the steakhouse. The Asian was so-so, I am not a huge fan of Asian food to begin with but figured I would try it anyways. Italian was realllly good, wide selection of food as well. The Mexican restaurant was also very good.

They don't let you book all of your restaurants for the entire trip on the first day, you only get to book 2 days in advance, so try to be there as early as possible to avoid disappointment or a 9pm supper.

The nightly entertainment was pretty good - we stuck around to watch a few shows and had us all on the edge of our chairs clapping. So try to check out a few! The disco was also a great time.

During the day, the entertainers(L.A was so fun) will round people up for tequila volleyball, bingo, aerobics, etc, so try to get involved, it's super fun!

The beaches were clean with white sand and blue ocean. So how can one complain! This isn't my first time in Cabos, so I already knew that swimming is not recommended in the ocean as it has a strong undertow, but that's fine by me.

They have a tour desk at the front lobby to book your excursions, or you can go down to the main pool area where a private company runs a booth and you can usually get a better price from the lady, Claudia, there. I think the company was Scuba Careeb. We booked whale watching, jet skiing and a catamaran cruise for a big group of us through her.
The whale watching was awesome(a bit scary as we were in a small watertaxi in the high tides, lol) but really cool to see. Our driver got right up into the excitement.
Jet skiing was also awesome, I highly recommend it.
The catamaran we went on though, was the best excursion. 4 hours of unlimited booze, whales, music and dancing out on the ocean, followed by snorkelling in a quiet reef(which had a very nice view). Definitely try to check it out!!

If you can get into town to do some shopping at the mall, they have cheap prices! The view from the back of the mall at the marine area/mountains is absolutely beautiful.
If you're into downtown Cabos night life, Squid Ro was SO MUCH FUN. They let you dance on the tables, but don't get suckered in the jello shots, as they shove em down your throat then make you pay after. The Pink Kitty was also fun(we didn't see any dancers though, sadface) and Mandala is also great.

As for the atmosphere of the resort, while it is kid friendly, I saw very few children the entire time. It definitely has a 'young people' vibe and was thriving with young ones who like to party and have a good time.

I had a GREAT trip and would even stay at the same resort again(which has always been my rule, never the same place twice) We made a big crew of young friends from all over, which we partied and did excursions with.

 Loved it!!

The process of getting your wrist bands and check in was superior to any other hotels we have stayed at. We arrived in the morning and our room was ready. The front desk very accommodating I asked to move to another building to be close to our friends and they did it immediately, no come back later! The resort grounds were spectacular and well maintained. The rooms were very clean and patio door actually worked and locked! No elevator in the buildings where we stayed but the groundskeeper stopped what he was doing and helped us with our luggage, everyone was very friendly and helpful. There was a great variety of food, well presented and fresh. We were able swim in the ocean on the yellow flag days as well, it gets assessed daily to the ocean conditions and flags change accordingly. The beach area was kept clean as well as the pools. There was a wide variety of pool areas where you could party or if you chose quiet there were pool areas for you too. You could sign up for two ala cartes a day, they were very good with excellent service. The shows were entertaining with a children's show first, every evening. The room bar fridge and liquor dispenser were kept well stocked and bottled water was provided as required in the room and front desk. We enjoyed our holiday and will definitely be going back!!!

 Was better the first time

The hotel itself hasn't really change it is still a good resort. The food has gotten worse, the drinks seem to be more watered down, and the staff especially security make you feel like you are being watched and not in a good way. We were just playing around one night and one of our group got handcuffed by security for playing dress up bride with toilet paper, yes handcuffed for toilet paper and then told they were going to call the police. It was like you had to tip toe to your room if you got back late from a bar, and not aloud to talk until you got into your room. People were being thrown into the pool on beach chairs, which could really cause injury and nothing happened to them. The only good thing I can say about security is that they are strict checking your arm bands coming in.

 Great Vacay

This was my second stay at the Riu Santa Fe, so I knew what to expect, I love this resort which is why I visited it again a second time and would re-visit again and again! If your looking for a more fun, upbeat resort this is the one to stay at. If you are looking for something a little more quiet and family friendly stay next door at the Riu Palace. This resort is a younger, party crowd. So much fun.

 Good, exactly what you expect

The hotel was really beautiful, the food was great, it was pretty big, the pool was awesome

VERY CLEAN

BUT there seems to be a huge 19-23 population at the santa fe, at times it felt a bit crowded and not relaxing - more like a vegas pool day

but as always you can escape from that and do your own thing.

Cabo itself is beautiful, the weather is amazing

Get out to the town for sure

 Wonderful Resort

I was a little leary going to another Riu after our absolutely horrible experience at Riu Varedero. The staff and management at this facility deserve mucho kudos. All areas of this resort were kept very clean, food was excellent and service was exceptional considering the amount of tourists they serve. WE were very impressed.

 A Party Place

The hotel itself is beautiful! It is clean and the staff are friendly. Rooms are comfortable and food is reasonable.
I have stayed at many Riu properties but this one was understaffed for the time of year and the food was good but not great.
It was the worse New Years Celebration that I have experienced at a Riu and the entertainment was poor.
Don't bother becoming a Riu member, I have tried to use my points for late check outs and upgrades and have never been able to use them.
Also they really need to do a better job with booking dinners.

 Very Enjoyable

Our experience with the Riu was pretty much on par with our stay at the Riu Palace approx 7 years ago. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. The food was plentiful and varied. The a la cartes were nothing impressive - a little disappointing at the Steak House when the menu has only 2 steaks on the menu and one was unavailable!!! I am alittle unsure of why reservations were required for New Years dinner when essentially it was the usual Buffet beefed up slightly. Not complaining just not sure why. All in all the hotel was fine. Would possibly come back as I find the the Rui chain to be dependable so far. Saving of chairs by pools was a bit of problem but this is a common all inclusive problem. Up at 7:00 to put towels on chairs and most of the poolside chairs were already saved. Did that many people really get up before 7:00? And then there were those that put towels on chairs and never came back to use them that day. Best chairs too!!! Should have had the nerve to just use them after no one showing up.

90 consecutive minutes of internet in Lobby every 24 hours. Not very convenient.

 Riu Santa Fe Los Cabos

Worst vacation ever. Reps give you wrong information, like not needing a restaurant reservation one particular day. Just go and first come first served. Meanwhile, none are open except the buffet. We tried to check in online before leaving, and the vacation rep told us that they doen't allow that for an international flight. When we get to the airport, many other people had already done that and we had no choice of seats. After the kids program is finished in the evening, they are still permitted to run all over the stage and tiny dance floor, leaving no room for adults. The food was not good. Very little variety at the buffet (and impossible to get reservations for anything else.) Not enough pool chairs for the amount of guests. Had to pool towels out at 6 a.m. to get a spot, even though the sign say no reserving chairs. The worst was the drinks. Very watered down and poor quality. When leaving, the book said the shuttle would pick us up at 2:10. We packed up and showed up in the lobby, just to find out it had changed to 4:10.
