 Relax

 Best vacation destination in Mexico

This property and destination are 5star the rooms are beautiful and housekeeping outstanding. The staff did everything to make you feel welcomed. The choice of restaurants are good, the Costa Azul was by far the best both with food, service and presentation. The Oyster Bar also enjoyable and what a view. We loved the Mexican Restaurant, the food was fresh and lots of choices, by far the best omelette and again the service was great. It is truly a picture perfect destination. The pool is awesome lots of sun, umbrellas, and loungers. Waiters are eager to quench your thirst and work hard to accommodate (please tip accordingly all the staff work so hard) The trip to the island is nice, an icebucket of corona for 6 bucks and a lovely view of the hotel. The kids club and pool are fantastic although I did not have my boys with me it came highly recommended by a couple we met. The evening show is enjoyable the entertainers are talented and the costumes are so colourful. They have a mexican band in the lobby every eve, I would have liked to hear some fun mexican numbers as much of the music was catered for the local tourists and the disco is cool but again could use a better selection in dance music again catered to the local tourists. Shopping is available at the market down the beach the vendors are friendly and passive unlike the timeshare solicitors at the hotel. They do not take no for an answer and were the only pests on the resort be firm unless you are interested in buying. Security is not a problem and lifeguards are ready for action. Although the propery is not large there is alot of stairs to get from one place to the other so not recommended for handicapped or elderly. I would come back here with my boys in a heartbeat. This truly was a welcomed vacation.

 Melia Azul - March 9 - 16 2011

Overall experience was good. Weather perfect everyday. This is not a 5 star. More like a 4 star. It's a bit older but well maintained. Rooms are good, clean and all you need for a vacation. Service was very good. Lots of chairs, attendants were courteous and helpful. Buffets were so-so. Not a lot of veggies and the food was same everyday (i.e same fish cooked in a different sauce). Activities were good and staff engaged vacationers as best they could. Not much for kids 14-18 to do at night. Resort seemed to cater to families, children more than adults. I would recommend this resort to others.

 Melia Azul Ixtapa

Overall the hotel was quite good, although there were some big negatives. One being the beach, not great. Had to travel to Ixtapa Island to enjoy a good beach, also the food was not amazing, not terrible, but not great.
Staff is very friendly, room was great and the many pools were big and very enjoyable.

 Vacation at Melia Azul

We have been at this hotel for the past 7 years. This is a very beautiful hotel & grounds, very well kept. This year we only ate at the buffet for breakfast & lunch, dinners were at the 3 restaurants, the food was very good & a good variety. We also loved the snack bar, vary good burgers. The staff was very friendly & provided good service. This hotel is very good for familes with small children, however, this did not bother us as the kids were never in the way or annoying. Hotel is 15 minutes from Ixtapa were there are good restaurants and shopping. The beach is not the greatest, but you can take a small boat at the end of the beach to Ixtapa Island were there is a nice sandy beach & the water is clear, takes about 10 minutes. We had taken our daughters, spouses and our 4 grandekids here 2 years ago, everyone loved it & had a great time. We would all go back again.

A great week at the Melia Azul!

We chose the Melia as a last-minute escape from the Calgary winter. This was our second trip to Ixtapa, and we really like the weather. It's perfect for us, and so dependable.

Two of the main attractions for us were the food and the beach/ocean activities. The food was probably the best we've ever had. The 3 buffets and 3 a la carte restaurants provided lots of variety, and the quality is top-notch. There were always excellent Mexican dishes available (since about 50% of the guests were Mexican families), but international fare was easy to find.

The beach is a bit small, but that's offset by their great beach activities. We did the kayak/snorkel tour to Ixtapa Island, went on the bike tour and sailed a Hobie cat. We took out the kayaks on our own 4 or 5 times. There was always a serious beach volleyball game going too. The only activity that had an extra charge was the wave-runners, and we weren't interested those anyway.

The Melia is set up really well for families. The staff is very well trained and does a great job. We'd return to the Ixtapa area and the Melia anytime!

Our family visit to Melia Azul Ixtapa (Jan 2011)

Our experience at the hotel was way below expectations...service was horrible. I guess the fact that the hotel mostly caters to Mexicans who are not used to for the most part tipping the staff makes a huge difference when it comes to service. The kids club also caters only to Mexican nationals even though our children are half hispanic and fluent in spanish, they did not enjoy the kids club and actually refuse to participate in the activities after the second day.
Very dissapointed with the service in general, the only exception were a couple of guys (waiters)by the pool, service everywhere else was really bad.

 Great Fun

We had a good time. We took our 13 and 14 year old. There was lots to do to keep them busy. They said they would like to go back to the same hotel someday and they dont say that about all the all inclusives we have stayed. Drinks were plentiful and the pool waiters are fast. Tip them and they will be even faster and drinks will taste even better. Hotel service was good and they were quick to respond to requests or issues. The food was good. The Oyster bar was the best. Location was ok a bit far from ixtapa but we kept busy at the resort and we went ATV ing and Fishing and over to the island. One night we went into town and wandered around - $15 taxi ride. The beach was clean and swimming in the ocean was fine, based on previous evaluations they must have cleaned it up. The building we were did not have a fridge. i do like to have one but after a day or two i didnt miss it the ice machine was down the hall to keep beer cold. Only issue was the pool and beach chairs you have to get up before 8am and put a towel out if you want one by the pool, also on the beach they try to keep you from moving chairs out of rows. I found that ridiculous. We were able to move them to the backside of the beach (after a lot of convincing and shaking of heads) and turn the chairs to face the sun. Strange rule - no other hotel has done that and we have traveled a lot. There were a lot of little ones at the hotel, but that didnt bother us - it may be different for adults only though. There were lots of timeshare sales people, but they were not bothersome just overly friendly - Just say no and they leave you alone.

 Mosquitos&not as stated-disappointed

I would not go back to this hotel as it did not offer many of the things advertised. It was missing many basics, such as a decent bed and there were so many mosquitoes you couldn't eat at the outdoor restaurants, but some nights outdoor eating was all that was open, so we were forced to get biten alive if you wanted a meal(We all wore bug spray too-didn't help) or not eat at all. Our party of 6 had to get up mid-meal quickly and walk out due to the swarms of mosquitoes and not eat at all. Even around the pool we got bit many times. Many of the restaurants and bars were closed, we were told due to "Low Capacity" We went Mar 1-8,2010. Only 2 ala cartes of 3 were open, but the one was outdoors= mosquitoes so bad we did not go there. They had some kind of a sewage problem (I am assuming?) and the halls to our rooms really stunk. There are 3 large nice pool areas, but only 1 bar way over to one side to serve them all. There was fecal matter in the kid's waterpark area on Thurs,Mar 4 at 3:40pm, still there at 5pm, didn't see staff do anything, should have drained the waterpark and sterilized-but nothing was done. The lobby bar was the only other bar in the whole huge resort open, and it always had a huge line-up. We were told to request a king bed at check-in, and being the hotel was at low capacity,I am surprized we ended up with 2 double beds. I could not even sleep in the same bed as my husband. They were the hardest most uncomfortable beds we had ever slept on, we could not sleep. I woke several times a night, even tried the floor. We came with friends they had the same problem. There were no mini- fridges in rooms as advertised, so I called the front desk who sent up a squeaky old mini-fridge that did not work and made very loud electrical noises. The food is repetitious- rice, pork chicken and beef.I got food poisioning the 2nd last day,and diarherra. I left my necklace on the counter in our bathroom and after the maid cleaned it was not there. I went down to the front desk to tell them I had my necklace stolen from our room, but their english wasn't very good and they did not help me to recover it. This resort is very spread out, there is alot of walking to get anywhere in the resort. It was a 15 min walk from the beach/pool to our hotel room, up a very step hill.
I have always made the best of places. We have usually stayed at 3-4 star, this is the first time we've stayed in a 4.5-5 star, and the 3 stars had way better food and beds. Of all the places we have stayed at in Mexico and the Carribean, this is the worst experience.

 Overall good

not a 5 stars resort, I gave a 4 cause the buffet's food is terrible, lack of variety. A lot of Mexican came and spend weekend there with kid. A la carte restaurant are excellent-good food and service. Not the nice beach but we can boat to the island for nicer beach for only 35 pesos roundtrip.Ixtapa town don't have much to see, a lot of restaurants.
But a lot cheaper to do tours there than elsewhere due to being in local area

 Hotel trop familial

 Melia a Ixtapa..
