 Good Trip!!

We had a good vacation at the El Cozumeleno. The front desk staff were great, we had booked ocean view but due to an error were originally given garden view - they fixed that right away and we had an amazing view from our 6th floor balcony. The wait staff and restaurant staff were excellent - always someone to bring you a drink. A solid 3-3.5 star. The buffet did not have a great selection but the Veranda restaurant was excellent - we ate most breakfast and dinner there, the beds were a little hard but the rooms were very large and the grounds were very clean. The beach was lovely, the snorkeling was great. Overall, we were pleased with the trip and felt that for what we payed, it was well worth it.

 Terrific stay!

We were nervous about staying at the El Cozumeleno after four of our co-workers became ill there during their March 11-18 stay. However, we were fine. The hotel conducted temperature checks of their food, there was ample hand soap and hand sanitizer. The food in the a la carte restaurant was terrific. The buffet was typical but we could always find enough to eat. Our drinks were not watered down...we watched! And, there were various brand names available upon request if you were looking for Absolut, Smirnoff, etc. The hotel and grounds were immaculate. Staff was friendly and eager to assist. We travel to Mexico every few months and this hotel is worth going back to. We spoke with numerous returning guests who said they always enjoy their stay here. We celebrated our anniversary the week we were ther and hotel management presented us with a nice gift to celebrate the event. Water bottles were replenished daily. Towels were in great shape contrary to negative reviews, in fact, better than in the Hilton Garden Inn we stayed at prior to our flight. There was free Internet in the lobby - unheard of in most Mexico hotels. Our room was spacious. The hotel provided bags of bread to feed the fish which was a huge hit with the children! Snorkelling was popular for all! Our only complaints were that upon check in the front desk requested an imprint of a credit card, and asked that you sign it in case of incidentals (not a good idea and not recommended by VISA) and that there weren't enough lounge chairs or umbrellas on the beach! All in all, we had a great time and look forward to our next stay.

Great Week @ the El Cozumeleno

It was a very relaxing vacation. The staff was very friendly and made your stay enjoyable. If you are looking for a quiet motel then this is for you. No loud music or partys at night. Very peacefull. The food was ok, but your in Mexico so what can you expect.

This hotel has gone down hill

We were very disappointed with how the product at the El Cozumeleno has been reduced in quality compared to our visit in April 2007. Apparently new ownership has reduced quality and dumbed down the Mexican experience here(windy). We spent most of our time at the pool, hot tub or in the ocean (great). The wireless internet would not work half the time (in the lobby). We were told it was the waves, the weather but when we hired a cab on two occassions and went downtown internet service was fine where we went. The rooms are large and king bed we had was OK, but the sofabed for our young son was decrepit so they gave us a cot (good).
The ala carte Veranda restaurant we visited in the evenings once served filet mignon, lobster, giant shrimp four years ago. This time around, the offering was limited - steak like shoe-leather, house wine sour, tiny handful of shrimp, "garlic" bread a piece of dough. The main outdoor restaurant would offer pork and chicken most of the time, sidedishes such as broccoli or cauliflower just cheap and boring.
One bright spot was the home made quesadillas installation. Breakfasts were basically usual boring eggs, bacon bbrittle, reminded me of Cuba 3 star.
No sign of a chile pepper in any of the bland offerings. The coffee served out of styrofoam cups in the lobby or in the restaurants always dilute and terrible dishwater and there is no coffeemaker in the room. It's a shame given Mexican coffee is so spicy and delicious. Place aches for espresso. The poolside buffet had hardly edible fast food with dirty plates. We complained and they decided to remove this buffet, blaming its condition on reparations that were going on to fix the palapa (grass) roof, which had a hole in it. Service by constantly fawning waiters made the mediocre food even more annoying, however, we tipped most of them, bartenders, chambermaids as well as the front desk as we heard they worked at the hotel due to pressing need rather than much desire.

On the entertainment front, in 2007 we remember elaborate nightly shows with dancers and singers every night which we could watch outside or from our balcony. This time around they had no shows, just a hired bar band that would play rather lame covers of old American tunes - rather pathetic. We enjoyed the food at the Caribbean night which was held on the 2nd floor, but instead of a steel band or something, this band was hired to play rather bad rock and roll!
FThere are very few activities at this hhotel, no pool volleyball, no exercise cclasses, nothing for kids to do (they hhave a kids room but totally empty as the place seemed to cater to the 55 ccrowd, no disco. Not much to do at this place at all except eat and drink.

 Will not go again

The resort was great as for food and cleaness. The Beach was NOT good. The beach is filled with pebble rock and hard to walk on the beach with no shoes. The bathroom sink wasn't draining properly and there was a bad oder coming from the stand up shower drain. Internet connection was always out. You could work for a few min and then be seeking for a Wireless connection.

 Always a great holiday

We have been coming to this hotel for 10 years. It has been a consistent place for us to holiday. I was a little disapointed that there was a little March Madness going on this year which was non existent in past years. The hotel has been well maintained. The method of booking for the indoor restaraunt could and should be handled differently.Clients should not have to line up for an hour to book. How about doing some advance booking for this as part of the trip limiting 2 or 3 visits per room to help avoid or eliminate the line up every morning at 8am.Perhaps an upgrade to the outside dinner area would entice more clients to use it instead of the indoor area.Beach space is at a premium particularly if you need shade. These are small details however for some they are major concerns.Although I love consistency of this hotel, there are some changes that could be made to:
1)prevent the lineups for the resteraunt
2)make better use of the beach area

 Good Resort Poor Food

Very easy to reach from airport just 6 kms drive, took us just 10 mins or less. Sunwing rep received us at the airport and arranged for transport. Check in and out was easy and hassleless.
Great beach &pools for swimmimg and snorkeling. Drinks were good. Town and airport very close. Unlimited A la carte dinner with reservation. Wireless internet free.
But the greatest complain is the poor qulaity food at buffet, there was no taste, no variety, items were recylcled and are was unhygienic and uncleaniness. They got to improve a lot at the buffet.

Very nice hotel and location, some issues

As a family of 4 we had a good vacation here.
I never have stomach problems but this time became very ill for 2 days on the 2nd day. Saw a Doctor very quickly and recovered very quickly. Figured it was something I ate.
Many complaints about the lack of of beach chairs etc. The biggest issue was people would go to the beach at 4-5 AM and reserve their spot under a Palapa with a towel. We saw and heard stories of this nature and then the people that reserved these spots barely used them, went into town etc.
I have heard of other hotels that will remove "reserved belongings" if nobody occupies the spot for 1 hour.
Sounds like a good idea.
I found the beach area very good with great snorkelling. Lots of fish to look at.
The staff were awesome. Friendly, Attentive!
While sitting by the water they constantly came around bringing drinks.
Suggestion for the hotel: Provide lime for the beer.
The bars did not have limes available for the beer.

Amazing time at the El Cozumeleno!

I went to the El Coz with 3 of my girlfriends. We are all in our mid 20s and we had the best time! It is definitely not geared toward our age group, but we still had a fantastic time. There was definitely a majority of couples and families, but we partied with them too!
The rooms were immaculately clean. As was the rest of the resort. The outdoor buffet was gorgeuous! Right on the ocean and it looked gorgeous at night with all the white lights.
The snorkeling was fantastic; although, because the beach is all coral ( hence the great snorkeling) you want to be sure to bring water shoes! Even if you don't plan on snorkelling and still want to go in the ocean, be sure to bring water shoes.
There are lots of activited to partake in, but we mostly just tanned on the beach and around the pool.
The drinks were great. I read many rewviews before visiting this resort that said the drinks were weak or had a soap-y taste. Not true at all. We mostly drank blended drinks during the day, and I actually found them to be quite strong. If you do find them a bit weak for your taste, you can simply ask for a double! Oh, and if you prefer certain brands, you just need to ask for them.
The service was outstanding. The staff work very hard and are ALWAYS smiling. The only complaint would be the service at the swim-up bar. It was often very slow there and there was some kind of weird smell around it. But, there are constantly servers walking around th ebeach and pool to bring drinks right to you.
If I had to say something bad about the El Coz, it would be the food. It was fine by my standards, but there wasn't much variety and it was always room temperature. BUT, there is ALWAYS the option to order food fresh from the menu or don't forget the FREE room service! A lot of the other guests didn't realize the room service was free. We ordered coffee and fresh fruit to our room every morning.
Remember, this resort is about a 3 1/2 star, so if you go there expecting a 5 star, you will be disapointed. You get what you pay for, and at the El Coz, I htink we got more than that.
Don't forget, you're on vacation... ENJOY YOURSELF!
Oh, and it is only $7 to get into town. You ABSOLUTELY have to go to Guido's. It is an italian restaurant in town and it is TO DIE FOR! Best food we all had, ever! Senor Frogs is a fun place to go drinking!

 Fabulous Resort !!

We absolutely loved this resort. The oceanfront room was huge and always kept extremely clean. We did not eat at the buffet for lunch or dinner, but heard from others that it is quite repetative. Breakfasts were repetitive and got very boring after a few days. The a la carte was fantastic. We had dinner there every night. The menu changes every couple of days. The staff at the resort are all extremely friendly and helpful.
If you are looking for a beach, the beach in front of the resort is smaller, but it will do. The beach is being cleaned regularly.
Our trip was spent mostly scuba diving, and that was preplanned, but I did see quite a variety of activities for the guests. A really nice addition is the 18 hole mini golf. It was very popular with the guests and as with the rest of the resort is kept very clean.
As in previous vacations to Cozumel, we found the island to be very safe. We rented a car for the week to enjoy our own freedom and timetable. It's not hard to find anything we wanted and you can't get too lost with the limited roads available. Nice to not to have to keep using the taxi mafia on the island.
We loved it here and would definately return.

A wonderful resort at a great price. We would rate this hotel high on service, cleanliness, friendliness and enjoyment. The rooms were clean and well maintained.  Not bad but wouldnt return

The hotel was not bad but I would not return. The biggest complaint we had was that they only had entertainment twice a week. there was nothing to do there the rest of the week. They had movie nights on the days that they didnt have entertainment, but the movies were really old. The entertainment staff should get up to speed to what some of the other resorts are doing to entertain their guests. It rained all day on our last day there and we were so bored. At that time there should have been a lot of activities but the "fun team" was no where to be seen.
