Plage superbe. Hotel très moyen et mal entretenu. Restauration minable.
Mais nous avons profité d'une plage superbe et la température était au rendez-vous...heureusement!

The hotel need a make over, specially the air condioning.

We travelled to Varadero in April 2012 (my 2nd visit to V, my wife's first and our first time at Internacional) and we quite delighted at the trip overall.
The beach is on par with the best strip in Varadero - and the Internacional is the only hotel right ON the beach. TONS of beachfront meant no problem getting chairs (anytime of day) or a space to sun and/or be in the shade.
Food was quite good if you're expectations are in line with what Cuba's food offers. Decent variety and their fruit and veg were great - meat eaters (like me) are best to lower expectations any time they enter Cuba.
One important note to make is that this is NOT the hotel if you're expecting high-level service. Nothing to do with the personalities (99% of staff were very friendly and accommodating) but simply that in comparison to other all-inc resorts, be ready to not be waited on very often. That said, due to the proximity of the hotel to the beach, we were never more than a few steps from a drink, food or our room.
Entertainment was VERY good - although again best to temper expectations as this is not Vegas, it's Cuba.
One bonus of the Internacional is that it has a disco attached that is THE place to be on Thursday and Sunday nights - so while the overall atmosphere is more geared towards middle-age/seniors, you do get 2 nights of a great party at home.
One drawback is that due to the age of the hotel, there is essentially zero sound buffer between rooms. We could literally hear the guests next door speaking to each other in a normal voice, and when the younger guests arrived, we did have a couple of 4am wakeups which luckily didn't last much longer than 20-30 minutes.
On the whole, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip and return both to Varadero and the Internacional - but having read numerous reviews about Cuba be forewarned that Cuba is what it is - no matter where you stay. If you're looking for an affordable getaway with terrific weather and unparalleled beaches - Cuba's our recommendation.
If you're seeking a more pampered, foodie and north american experience, it's probably best to spend the extra cash and go somewhere else.

I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A GREAT STAY AT THE HOTEL INTERNATIONAL AND WOULD NOT HESITATE TO BRING MY FAMILY INCLUDING MY 5 YR. OLD GRANDDAUGHTER.THE STAFF SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF THE JOB THEY ARE DOING.

Paid twice as much as our travelling companions so we were not very impressed.
some pretty nasty bugs inside and out so beware.

Great location right on the beach. 20 minute walk to Varadero. HopOn-HopOff bus at highway entrance to hotel, $5 for all day rides. Super Tropicana like Cabaret Show free to guests. Friendly staff. Good nightly entertainment. One must realize that this hotel is a grand old hotel with a rich history but is showing its age due to lack of maintenance. Don't expect perfection! We had visited Cuba before this trip and knew what to expect.

Love the hotel, love the beach, not problem with the food selection.

Me and my friend went to this hotel we were 19. I really enjoyed the staff at this hotel, the bartenders were all very friendly. I also enjoyed the food at this hotel, as many people say the food in Cuba isn't good I found it to be quite enjoyable. The hotel is right on the beach which is beautiful and the water was amazing and clear. It is only a straight walk into town were you can find many vendors selling homemade trinkets. For a young crowd they have the club international beside the hotel which was very fun to go to and dance at night time. They had great nightly and daily entertainment that was fun to watch. Over all really enjoyed the trip and people I met at the resort.

~WARNING~If after you read this & still decide to go, you get what you deserve. Spend the extra $200

This is not a resort to go & relax or have fun.  I'm just going to list all the things wrong with this resort.

-Hallways and rooms smell moldy

-Faucets, bathtub, closet doors & framing are rusting or rotting away

-Mattress spring protruding out of mattress 

-Room walls are collapsing from water damage

-Food is recycled day to day & horrible with no selections (wish I took pictures) I am in no way saying this is about all of Cuba because I've been there before. The really poor food falls on 'HOTEL INTERNACIONAL' ONLY.

-Coachroaches crawlling around the bar by the cappuccino maker

-They ran out of money for exchanging purposes
(we walked to Barcelo Solymar next door & realized how crappy our resort was.) 

-All water faucets & toilets on the WHOLE resort stopped working on Saturday from 7pm to about 5am Sunday morning.

-Ants or bed bugs in my bed. Woke up every morning with at least 10 fresh new bites to my legs

-I didn't watch that much TV because I'm on vacation. But for the 2 days there wasn't a TV in our room & when we did finally get a TV, a pop-up message would appear saying (ATTENTION please go to dishnetwork.com or call us immediately to avoid losing your satellite service.)
Come on HOTEL INTERNACIONAL, pay your bills.

-The closet door in our room was rotting away & almost impossible to open. Infact I can see that the room had really severe water damage previously and was poorly renovated, which would explain the smell amongst other things. 

-If you like to ride scooters, take a walk up the road to Barcelo Solymar & get a new one for the same price. Unless you want it to break down on you because of a low battery or something else. Oh, the turn singnals and horn may or may not work.

I can't think of anything more at the moment only. Ecause I'm trying to forget. I'm 33 years old & I wouldn't recommend this for anyone of any age. There's better out there for $200 more. A man at the age of about 60 was at the front desk when I was chechking in and he was livid at the fact that he had to change his room 3 times since he's been there.

When we went into town to eat, we noticed that 90% of the people there were from the same resort (HOTEL INTERNACIONAL) so I'm not alone on the quality of the food.

So to end this long gripe, other than the location of 'HOTEL INTERNACIONAL' for going into town, clubs or partying off the resort, I give this place a very generous 2 1/2 STARS....

Très déçu... Les seuls points positifs: la plage, l'hôtel est sur la plage et l'aéroport est à proximité de l'hôtel.
Pour le reste... Durant 4 jours il n'y avait pas d'eau chaude dans la douche, le personnel froid, distant, débordé... Manque de vaisselle lors des repas. La nourriture est la même au déjeuner, dîner, souper et la même tous les jours. Les chaises de plage sont en plastiques, inconfortables. L'hotel demande un dépôt de 20 pesos cubain par serviette de plage. Changez votre argent dans une banque parce qu'à l'hotel, c'est coûteux (14%).

Exellent location, very clean room with beautiful ocean view, food as expectet not so good, friendly staff, problems with broken elevator,no water in room on few occasions

The hotel was great, only found one cockroach in the bathroom, but got him in a glass with paper under it, and put him or her off the porch !! The maid service and hotel staff were all very helpful and excellent service, except the pay computer was very slow,
was down over the weekend but fixed first thing Monday, the only other thing that happened was the water was off for half a day, but lots of bottle water to brush your teeth, other than that we had a beautiful trip and thanks to all !! Cuba was Great place to go very friendly and would go back again, even to same hotel!! Chow

Room was nice and clean. Don't exchange dollars for CUC on front desk (they don't pay enough 1CAD=0.82CUC). Do exchange in the other hotels or in the bank, you are going to get better deal (1CAD=0.91CUC)

Nous revenons d'un voyages (4 adultes) au Gran Caribe Internacional (prononcer en espagnol). Lors d'aller-retour en autobus, nous avons eu droit à un hôte unilingue english (est-ce parce que nous avions pris le départ d'Ottawa?). Pas d'espagnol. Pour l'occasion, je me suis demandé si nous étions en Floride (insistance à laisser du pourboire en canadian money) Welcome to Cuba, if you like your trip, give us tips. Passons..

Cet hôtel est un excellent endroit pour passer vos vacances à Varadero Cuba. Directement sur la plage, que pouvez-vous demander de plus? Nous avions pris une chambre avec vue sur la mer. Tout simplement époustouflant. Une belle chambre, bien nettoyée. Petit hic: l'eau chaud (pas nécessairement chaude) et l'air climatisé (qui a besoin d'être ajusté). Pour le reste c'était super.

En choisissant cet hôtel vous êtes situés vers la fin de la péninsule à 15 minutes à pied de la calle 62. Pour vous donner une idée, le marché aux puces est à 30 minutes de marche et si vous désirez aller au marché situé près de la calle 20, vous devez prendre un taxi ou l'autobus (guagua) à 5,00$. Pour s'y rendre cela prend 10 minutes.

Au fond, depuis les changements (les cubains peuvent maintenant avoir une entreprise personnelle), il n'est donc plus nécessaire d'aller aux marchés car vous retrouverez les mêmes cossins tout le long de l'avenue principale. Toutes les maisons, ou presque, sont des boutiques. De plus, sur la plage vous retrouvez maintenant des vendeurs ambulants. En négociant un peu, vous allez obtenir le même prix pour acheter des souvenirs. Comme bonis: un verre de rhum, le soleil et la plage. Par contre, prendre une marche est nécessaire pour constater le mode de vie des Cubains.

La plage est immense. Sans aucun doute, le plus bel endroit de la magnifique plage de Varadero. À titre de comparaison, il y avait un hôtel 5 étoiles à proximité tous empilés comme des sardines. Si vous chercher un endroit avec beaucoup de place sur la plage ne chercher plus. La plage est un 5 étoiles. La mer...que dire de plus, turquoise et vous allez être surpris de voir la distance que vous pouvez avoir entre vous et la plage avant d'avoir de l'eau à la taille.

Dans cet hôtel vous retrouverez un petit bar situé près de la plage (bar Playa). Vous pouvez consommer dès 10h00 et jusqu'à 18h00. Idem pour celui situé à la piscine (très petite) mais on s'en fou, vive la plage :) Toujours à la piscine, vous retrouvez un BBQ. Afin de ne pas trop être dépaysé, vous y retrouverez: humberguesa, pero caliente, sandwich, etc., ainsi qu'une table de tennis de table.

Revenons à l'hôtel; nous avons été bien accueillis et vous pouvez consigner vos valises le temps d'obtenir votre chambre et ainsi profiter de la plage en sirotant votre premier cocktail. Vous y retrouverez un charmant petit bar (le meilleur endroit pour un mojito ou un café capucino). Cet hôtel a 4 étages. Petit hic, il a besoin d'une petite cure de rajeunissement et les portes des chambres ont besoin d'être ajustées sauf si le bruit du claquement ne vous incommode pas. La discothèque est située dans l'hôtel. Vous pouvez assister gratuitement avec boisson inclus au spectacle Cabaret. C'est sympathique mais ce n'est pas le Tropicana. Lorsque le spectacle est terminé, place à la musique et à la danse. Pour ceux et celles qui ont déjà été danser dans cette discothèque, vous serai surpris de constater que l'ambiance a changé. Place au regeaton et à la population locale. Plus besoin d'aller dans les discothèques cubaines pour sentir le pouls du peuple aromatisé par la salsa cubaine.

Revenons à l'hôtel: vous y retrouverez une grande salle à manger. Le choix est peu varié mais nous avons bien mangé. Vous pouvez choisir d'aller manger au restaurant de l'hôtel (réserver tôt). C'est excellent et le service impeccable. Musique d'ambiance dans un environnement bien décoré.
Également, nous y retrouvons un autre restaurant (cafétéria) situé du côté de la plage (papas fritas, sandwich,etc.). Bref, on a bien mangé en tout temps à différents endroits. Pour les becs fins, nous retrouvons plusieurs restos à 15 minutes de marche.

Comme divertissement, c'est correct mais sans plus. J'ai déjà vu mieux dans des 2 étoiles. Idem pour l'animation (sauf pour le bingo et personnellement ça ne m'intéresse pas).

Donc, un hôtel agréable avec un bon service mais ne payer pas trop cher. La piscine est correct mais un peu petite (je m'en fou je préfère la plage). Ambiance sympathique, nous y retournerons...c'est promis!

This time I had a better experience than the two earlier times. Everything went well (except the room phone, which I didn't need much anyway). The room was clean, the staff helpful. The same problem still existed with residents having to bang the doors to be able to lock them with a disturbing noise at all hours of day and night.

Un bon accueil et un personnel gentil et attentionné. Bien situé très proche de l,eau avec accès direct a la plage et avec une discothèque réputée sur place. Malheureusement l'entretien du batiment ne semble pas être une priorité et l'expérience gastronomique est plus que décevante. Ne jamais payer une cenne de plus que ce que j'ai payer car autrement...déception assurée.

Le couvre lit était très sale et ne l'on pas changé. La salle de bain ouf! donne le goût de prendre sa douche avec ses sandales et on a été oubligé de laver la toilette qui était noir... Nous étions deux personnes vraiment pas difficile côté bouffe et même je trouve que les gens se plaignent souvent pour rien pour le buffet... mais moi je me dis qu'il y a toujours moyen de trouver quelque chose pour se débrouiller mais là !!!! C'était vraiment dégueux jamais vu un hôtel avec aussi peut de choix et même le matin on avait de la misère a avoir des roties.. 6 meme choix de menu dans le buffet toute la semaine.. ah oui!!! a part une fois c'était différent on a trouvé un morceau de dos de porc avec le gros poil noir dans le riz... Ma chum a manqué vomire a plusieurs reprises, elle qui mange presque n'importe quoi et même chose pour moi... Côté bar c'est inscrit 24hrs mais à 11hrs pm plus de musique et plus de billard.. Ayoye le positif de tout ça c'est la 1e fois que je reviens aussi reposée ;-) Alors oui pour 595$ c'était bien mais j'y retournerai jamais et j'aurai payé plus cher l'avoir su avant... Eu du plaisir car c'était tellement pathétique que s'en était drôle ;-) Alors si vous avez seulement 500$ a investir ça vaut la peine car la plage est super belle... Bon voyage !!

j'ai vraiment apprécier mon voyage.
l'hôtel est très bien situer, 20 minute a pied max de la fin de la main,ou ce trouve le bar 24hr calle 62 et du resto la fondu,a ne pas manquer lors d'un voyage a varadero.mais assez loin du trafique.le seul hotel avec un grand espaces vert devant.
C'est le plus vieux et je crois bien le plus petit hôtel et le plus près de la plage de toute varadero.le personnel est chaleureux et te reconnaisse tjrs, avantage du petit hôtel.aucune face de cochon.
Pour la bouffe c'est pas si pire pour cuba, surtout vue la proximité des resto de la main. j'ai souper 3 fois a la fondu justement, ca fait que je suis pas mort de faim la.pi le resto a la carte inclus de l'hotel était pas pire.
Pour la première fois ,en 5, j'ai eu une chambre très très propre et avec un matelas flanc banc neuf je crois.mais c'était pas le cas de toute les chambre. tantmieux pour moi!!!

This was my 3rd visit to this hotel!!
The location is evcellent - the best on the beach. The staff are incredible -polite, friendly,fabulous!!
But, The hotel is in desperate need of renovation, soap in the toilets, edible food and many other things you would take for granted.

This is the 5th Year in a row travelling to this Hotel. Old & needs some work but location & staff make up for it.Good value for your money if You get a sell off.

Friendly staff. Away from the busy road and noisy traffic. Walking distance to downtown. Lovely beach. This was my second visit to this hotel and am planning to go back next month.

We had a great tiem at the Hotel Internacional. They have one of the best discos in the area.

En ce moment, il ne serait aucunement question pour moi de référer cet Hotel à quiconque. Nous étions supposé y résider pour 2 semaines et nous ne sommes rester que 3 jours. À notre arrivée, il n'y avait pas d'eau chaude car la chaudière avait rendû l'âme depuis quelques jours ou quelques semaines déjà. Et de plus, il y avait de la bière durant le jour, mais pas en soirée !!! On est même allé s'acheter notre propre bière même si elle devait toutefois être comprise....

Bref, si vous aimez les douches froides et pas la bière, vous pouvez tenter votre chance....

Et de plus, mon air climatisé n'a pas fonctionné durant une journée entière et cela, malgré le fait que j'avais averti la réception de cette situation tôt le matin. En fin de journée, ça ne fonctionnait toujours pas....

We've been to Cuba before and stayed at another resort, but the Riu was fantastic. The staff for entertainment, restaurants, bars were pleasant and very helpful. Our rooms were the best ones I've every seen in Cuba. The maids went out of there way when they made our rooms up daily. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Wow,a great lady indeed. The staff was wonderful always with a smile except for the people running the gift shop. Food was as expected not the best. This hotel needs to upgrade in the food department...not much choice of what you can eat, bland and same thing every day. Must say the beach was the best, we were impressed it was simply beautiful, hop skip and jump from the hotel. I would come back but they need to do something about the menu.

Hotel looked nice, but the service was crap and the buffet had nothing to choose from, we actually had to change hotels or we would have probably starved! This was our second trip to Cuba and we went right back to our hotel from our first trip! In Hotel internacional the phone in our room did not work and our air conditioner, and to our surprise in the morning we woke up to a pool of water on our floor and all of our belongings including our clothes soaked. It was awful!

This is the Grande Dame Hotel of Varadero. It is ON the beach & has aged graciously. The food & drink were unformly excellent-especially the A La Carte Restaurante Universal. Our housekeeper was indeed a dream come true. She cleaned our room daily & happily to the highest possible standards-her name is Marisleidis.

As in most Cuban service situations, patience is required particular if you are requiring service from somebody already engaged in a private/social conversation which you are attempting to interupt. Overall a brilliant week. VIVA CUBA SI
