Great time for family or for friends

C'est notre 2ieme fois à cet hotel en 2 ans. Dans l'ensemble, c'est assez bien. Nous avons eu quelques jours de pluie, mais ceci ne concerne pas l'hotel, mais met un point négatif sur nos vacances. Vu le manque de soleil, on ne pouvait pas admirer la mer à sa juste valeur. Quand à l'hotel comme telle, bien nous avons bien mangé, pas très bien , mais mieux qu'à Cuba quand même. On était un groupe de 10 personnes et personne n'a été malade. Nous étions dans la section Prestige de Airtransat, les chambres du bloc 14 et 15 sont très bien, mais demandé au 2ieme, si c'est possible. Certaines chambres au premier étage ont eu des problèmes d'eau, à cause de la pluie. Dans l'ensemble, on est très sastifait de l'endroit et de l'hotel.

The hotel measured up to our expectations and beyond. We booked the Club Premium package and would recommend this for the few extra dollars. You get your own private registration and check-out. Your own private pool area with jets. As many towels as you need right next to the Club office. You have your own buffet next to the pool for breakfast and lunch. The waiter will bring you drinks when desired and the drinks are of better quality than at the other bars outside the private area. Our room was huge under the Club Premium package.A living room, bedroom with king sized bed, a large bathroom with tub and shower and a separate walk-in shower. The vanity was long with plenty of room for a couple to store their toiletrees.
The one disappointing thing about the resort in general is the fact that smoking is allowed just about everywhere. Great for the smokers but not so great for the non smokers.

Did not expect the Private area, the special service, concierge, 5 Restaurant’s - Brazilian, Italian, Asian, Mexican, Sea food. The check in and check out was simple – kept our room until 5:30 pm pick up at 6.10 for airport. Have always travelled Air Transat, Delta Sunwing or Westjet before . Air Canada was the best and a pleasant surprise.

We had read previous reviews, some were valid others we found were too over the top.
Weather was cloudy but the sun came out and the last three days were 100% sun. Our tan looks wonderful.
The food was ok in the buffet. We loved the 5 a la carte. Brazil was least favorite, followed by seafood. Top were the Italian , oriental & Mexican.
We paid for Prestige class, well worth it. Bar stocked daily, remember to empty if you want it refilled, max 2 pop & beer. Lol.
We are planning to return with family because there is so much to for everyone to do.
There were many French people there, some very friendly, others were as rude as other English we met. We aren't in heaven yet but it was very close.
Over all we had a great time & we were there for relaxing, sunshine, reading a book & a tan.

We had a great time, the a la carts were not very good but the buffet was great. Comedy shows were good but the music shows got to be a bit much with the same singers. Rooms were nothing special. Beach was dissapointing, not really clean.

tres belle hotel nous etions 9. un tres bon service le buffet tres bien.et les resto a la carte sont tous tres bien.la plage est pas belle l'eau est pas aussi clair que les autres plage plus loin .

We've been to the DR on a number of occassions and have never been disappointed. This was our second trip to this resort - first time was for our honeymoon. We booked the premium package which was well worth the extra cost. Check in was in a seperate section of the resort and was very quick. We arrived at noon and one of our two suites was ready - the second suite was ready at 2pm. The furniture was outdated but the beds were comfy and I wanted to bring the pillows home with us. The rooms were large and very clean.
We had breakfast each morning in the Premium dining area - you had your choice of made to order eggs, french toast, pancakes, waffles and bacon every morning as well as fruit, cheese and sweets. The main buffet had plenty of variety for lunch and dinner. We went to three a la carte restaurants - Italian, Oriental and Mexican. Our favorite was the Oriental. The Italian was very good as well but the Mexican was disappointing. The pizzaria was great - our teenage son's ate there 3 times.
The resort staff were great and always eager to help with any problems that you had.
The pool was large and very busy. If you wanted a lounger you need to be up bright and early to claim one.
The animation staff were great. The evening entertainment was very good as well.

On a side note we were quite shocked to see how many of the resorts in the Playa Dorado compound are closed. We were told that 7 of the 14 resorts are no longer operating (mostly non-beach front resorts).

Premièrement, je dois dire que mes vacences ont très bien étés de façon gérérale. Des températures en haut de la normale et pleins de soleil. Mais je vais immédiatement enchainer avec des comm. négatifs. Cet hotel laisse des vendeurs s'installés sur leur partie de la plage et près de leur piscines pour vendre et carrément frauder les voyageurs (fausses cigares de marque et autres) alors méfiez vous de tout les vendeurs car les prix à l'aéroport sont meilleurs. je suis un vendeur de 10 ans d'expérience et lorsque je négociais pour des prix justes, ils étaient hésitants pour me vendre leurs biens.De plus ils n'hésite pas de vous dérangez en pleine lecture ou bronzage d'acheter leurs biens de facon continuelle et même après plusieurs refus. En outre, le club prestige n'est pas avantageux alors si vous lisez d'autre commentaires sachez que le seul forfait qui inclus des vrais est le club PREMIUM (avec resto/bar réservé et une petite piscine aussi)Dernierement, aucun gym sur les lieux. Maintenant le bon, Bouffe buffet et tout les restos à la carte étaits bons et surtout l'italien, brazilien et oriental offre de belles expériences en restoration. Les diners plutot platte et axé sur la bouffe américaine (burgers, hot-dogs, pork chops, frites et quelque mets locaux. La propreté etait exemplaire, la chambre assez spacieuse mais s'il fait mauvais attendez vous pas à grand chose petite télé genre 20 pouces et cable avec vraiement une mauvaise réception 1 poste francais (tv5 monde) et genre 5 postes en anglais. En dernier, si le prix est bon et vous cherchez une belle plage et piscine avec des lieux propres, des chambres biens et de la bonne bouffe, c'est un excellent choix. Mais si vous cherchez des vacences zen et de la tranquilité évitez à tout prix

L'hotel était bien, mais la salle de bain de notre chambre aurait certainement bénéficiée de quelques réparations. Nous avons laissé du pourboire à tous les jours à la dame qui s'occupait de notre chambre, mais malgré ceci, elle faisait le minimum et parfois moins. Nous avons manqué souvent de serviettes pour se laver le visage. Le frigidaire était rempli au minimum et souvent le plancher était sale. Sur la plage, les vendeurs locaux sont trop présents et agressifs. Les restaurants à la carte étaient bien, mais certains employés semblaient fatigués et non-chalants. Le buffet principal était bon, mais celui dans la hutte mexicaine manquait de variété.

La plage était propre, mais l'eau était très turbide.

J'ai quand même aimé l'expérience, mais je ne crois pas que je conseillerais à d'autres d'y aller.

À mon avis personnel, cet hôtel n'est pas un 4 étoiles. 3 1/2 tout au plus.

Hôtel intéressant, sans plus mais excellent ratio qualité-prix.

The resort was well maintained, great location of facilities, nice beach, with friendly people working on the resort. We had a great time at the BarceloPuerto Plata.

Scenary was beautiful, however the resort had some serious issues. We arrived to find our room had maintenance problems ie. unable to open balcony door (it took over an hr for a technican to repair), and the shower required fixing (unable to use right away). We had a view of the construction zone and the noise from the theatre was very loud nightly from 9 pm to 11:30 pm. The beach was littered on 1 end, although the scenary was beautiful and the water warm enough for the Atlantic side. The non stop (every 10 minutes!) pressure by the beach vendors was annoying (more than usual). 2 wild dogs roomed the beach. The food was mediocre in the cafe, however exemplary in the private restaurants. The primary challenge we had on this resort was that THERE WERE NO LOUNGE CHAIRS AVAILABLE, EITHER BY THE POOL OR THE BEACH. It appeared as if the hotel had overbooked, too many people for the resources, and you LITERALLY HAD TO GET UP BETWEEN 2 AM AND 6:00 am to ensure THAT YOU HAD A LONGE CHAIR FOR THE DAY. Too many people 'reserved' chairs and there were simply none available. For the most part, front desk reception was not helpful, and even directed 1 young member of our group to unsafely EXIT THE RESORT, in order to make a monetary exchange. It was an experience, and although we enjoyed the 33oC weather by the ocean, we likely would not attend this particular resort again. The reviews I had read earlier prior to the trip were largely true. A prior 5 star resort (when it was the Occidental Grand) is now a 3 - (3.5) star resort as the hotel rooms themselves have maintenance concerns.

J'ai bien aimé car c'était ma 2ième fois à cet hôtel. J'ai trouvé que la nourriture était un peu inférieure et un peu de choix dans le buffet que la 1ère fois mais le service était excellent toujours avec le sourire et la bonne humeur.

Attention, cet hôtel s'affiche parfois comme un 4* mais c'est bien un 3.5. Il a toutefois été rénové et les chambres sont propres et spacieuses. Le service au lobby est rapide et efficace. Deux défectuosités d'air conditionné dans la semaine ont été réparées après un appel au lobby (en soirée). Cela a pris environ 1 heure la première fois et 2 heures la deuxième, car la panne était généralisée.

Nous étions au bungalow no 7, le plus éloigné de la plage, mais tout de même à environ seulement 10 minutes de marche, le site n'étant pas très grand. Cependant, nous avons eu beaucoup de difficulté à dormir pour les 3 premières nuits, car c'était le party chaque soir dans d'autres chambres. Cela semblait généralisé pour les locataires du no 7. Je vous suggérerais donc de demander un autre bungalow.

La nourriture du buffet variait selon un thème tous les jours et il faut être vraiment difficile pour ne rien trouver de bon. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié le soir du spécial langoustes et autres fruits de mer (nommé spécial du chef). Nous avons réservé aux restos à la carte suivants: mexicain (repas très ordinaire et le seul endroit sur le site ou le personnel a l'air bête), fruits de mer (brochettes très bonnes et bon service) et l'Oriental (incroyable pour un tel " resort" , à aller absolument si vous aimez le style).

Le service et la gentillesse du personnel sont très bien en général sur tous le site et l'attente n'est jamais bien longue.

L'irritant qui pour nous a été majeur fut la plage et la mer. Il est vrai que le temps était mauvais en soirée, vent et pluie pour les trois premiers jours, mais il était presque impossible de se baigner tellement l'eau transportait de détritus et était brouillée. Les plages des autres "resorts" situés plus à l'est étaient beaucoup plus belles. D'ailleurs, tous les hôtels qui existaient à l'est de Barcelo sont fermés. Il n'y a qu'à longer la plage pour comprendre. Malgré des températures pas toujours clémentes sur la côte nord de Cuba lors d'autres voyages, je n'ai jamais eu à subir une eau aussi sale qu'à cet endroit. De plus, les embarcations de tout genre sont autorisées à se promener très près des (quelques) baigneurs ce qui rend l'expérience encore plus désagréable due aux odeurs de carburant.

Nous avons réservé l'excursion en catamaran et le puerto plata runners avec le grossiste et ces journées furent très agréables. Nous avons enfin pu faire de la plongée en apnée.

Donc, en conclusion, je ne retournerais pas sur la côte nord de la République, étant habituée aux eaux cristallines de Cuba, mais pour ceux qui aiment les partys et la piscine, c'est un bon endroit.

Wonderful vacation. Staff were very helpful. The rooms were a little outdated but clean. Only real complaint were the beds which were very hard. Shower worked great and we always had hot water which was important. This was our 2nd time to the Dominican and I would definitely recommend the resort. I see a lot of people on this website complaining about the obvious...lots of vendors on the beach, some bland food, etc. but that is what it is like in the Dominican. Never really bothered us. I would definitely recommend this resort as we had a great time.

good hotel and experience if you are staying in a regular room, but book premium in advance!!!! costs a little more and absolutely worth it. I would only do premium again.

I loved this resort, the food was great, the pool was great, the people that worked there were beyond great, and our room was beautiful! The only negative thing I can say about this place was that down at the beach, there were alot of people trying to sell you things, I'm talking like every five minutes someone was bugging you. So if you want to be down at the beach and not be harrassed you needed to walk a little bit to the left or right. Or just stay at the pool. I would go to this resort again, no questions asked.

We enjoyed our stay at this resort. Everything was as expected. The entertainment was exceptional. Very friendly staff on the resort. Food at the buffet was not great, but the a la carte's were terrific. We had a couple of issues with our room. The view was a white stucco wall and a small lawn. The shower was hand held. The hair dryer would not stay running unless you held in the on switch. We spoke to reception and they said we could probably change on Monday (we arrived on Friday). Our Sunquest rep spoke to reception on Friday p.m and they said possibly Saturday or Sunday. We were able to change rooms Sunday afternoon to a beautiful view of the pool. Everything worked in the room. Just an FYI, double beds in Dominican Rep. are more like 3/4 beds in Canada.

Pour la premiere fois nous sommes restés 2 semaines dans le sud et nous avons grandement apprecié.L'hotel Barcelo est a recommender mais pas dans la semaine de relache des Ontarien.Pour nous ce n'était pas un gros probleme car nous n'avions pas d'étudiants dans notre bloc.Mais les gens se plaignaient beaucoup du vacarme qu'ils fesaient la nuit.Ils ont agi en sauvages.Ca criait partout,sur la plage ,au bar,a la discotheque etc.Si ce n'avait pas été d,eux ca aurait été vraiment excellent.
L'hotel est tres propre,pas jeune mais il y a des employés qui nettoient partout.Toujours en train de balayer ou de nettoyer les planchers,ramasser les dechets que malheureusement les gens laissent trainer sur la plage.la chambre était tres grande,tres propre.Le site est super.Le personnel est tres gentil et toujours souriant.L'eau de la piscine est tres chaude.C'est vrai qu'il y a beaucoup de vendeur sur la plage mais ils sont tres gentils,tu leur dit non poliment et ils respectent ca.Au buffet leur plus grand defaut c,est que la viande est un peu trop cuite mais nous leurs en faisions cuire specialement a notre gout sur le grille et c etait super bon.Pour terminer nous recommendons cette hotel car nous y retournerons probablement l'année prochaine mais pas dans la relache des Ontarien.

Large clean resort..Although if you have walking trouble I wouldnt recomend it...

L'hôtel est très propre, le personnel est très efficace. La nourriture est excellente. Les activités sont très nombreuses. Malheureusement, durant cette période il y a eu un achalandage de jeunes gens qui ont gâchés nos vacances. L'hôtel devrait avoir un droit de regard lorsqu'il s'agit de gros groupes d'étudiants entre 16 et 20 ans. La salle de bain était mal organisée. Le sèche-cheveux ne se rendait pas au miroir. La prise murale près du lavabo ne fonctionnait pas. Il fallait donc brancher le fer à cheveux à la prise pour le sèche-cheveux et il ne se rendait donc pas jusqu'au miroir. De plus, l'emplacement du papier du toilette était vraiment mal positionné.

The resort was very nice. All the facilities were conveniently located. There was a place to eat or drink always nearby and served plenty of drinks. The staff was excellent. Always ready to help with a smile.

Some of the drawbacks were lack of chairs on the beach and swimming pool. Guests were putting towels on the chairs for hours but not using it and this made difficult for others who had to go around looking for empty chairs.

The food served in the main restaurant should be served more warmer. Many times it was lukewarm. Overall, it was a good resort.

Je dirais qu'en général, ce fut une très belle semaine de vacances. Je recommande fortement cet hôtel.

The resort is obviously in an older part of Puerto Plata and most hotels are in need of upgrades but still had a good time. We went Prestige with Air Transat (will not book a vacation with them again) and it is NOT what the hotel offers in their Premium section. Prestige still has a dedicated room area close to the pool and beach, surprisingly better rooms and snacks with the mini bar which was nice, just no wi-fi. You need to be specific when booking what type of bed you want or you will end up with two double beds if you only want one king, also if you want to be close to the beach and/or pool, it can get pretty loud too close to the beach since the disco is right there other wise the resort is nice and quiet after the entertainment ends at night. The Pizzeria was the best place to eat dinner and the Seafood restaurant was a close second. We had fun, relaxed and met some people who had been to this resort more than once before. Overall got what we expected and made the best of it...it's not always where you are that makes it great, it's who you are with that does.

Les chambre et le complexe mériteraient d'être rénovées et les matelas des lits remplacés .

La qualité des restaurants à la carte est surprenante la décoration est jolie la nourriture excellente, le buffet gagnerait à se renouveler et augmenter sa variété

L'animation pourrait être plus varie les activités sont toujours les même et sur les mêmes airs de musique des années 90

Il y a peu d'activités pour les enfant mais ma fille de 10 ans à bien aime la piscine qui possède une pente douce pour y accéder.

We enjoyed the resort tremendously! The staff were very accommodating, polite and friendly. They kept a very neat environment for us to enjoy. I would strongly recommend it!

The resort was as it looks, and the pool and ocean were great. Normally, I can bare any type of room, since we don't spend much time in the room anyways. However, these rooms were extremely outdated, the bed was hard as a rock, and the bedding was even worse. I wanted to cry when I first stepped in there. But, you make the best of what you can, right? Until the last two nights, when I was killing cockroaches in the bathroom. I've traveled to all inclusive resorts for 12 years and have never been excited to go home. This was a first. I would've gladly paid $400 more, to stay somewhere I felt more comfortable. Yet, the staff was amazing! The waiters really go out of their way to please you, and everyone is really friendly. Sadly, because of the rooms, I would never go back.

I had an amazing time during my stay here. I went with my boyfriend and we wanted to have a good mix of relaxing couple time and party time and that's what we got.

Points:
Music at the disco was kind of repetitive but still always a good time

Beach was beautiful and water perfect, however lots of peddlers which got kind of annoying

Food was great, especially the Italian a la Carte, and the Pizzeria

Not enough pool chairs on the beach but I found chairs would clear up within half hour of getting there

If you do the excursions definitely recommend the Monkey Jungle tour

I found the temperature in the rooms to be either humid or cold, the AC didn't really have multiple settings it would either be very cold on or get humid without it on, we just used the fan most of the time but also played around with turning the AC on and off

Overall I had lots of fun and would recommend this hotel
