Have been to many 5 star resorts, this one was the best. The food is great, no reservations policy worked well. Feeling hungry, ask for two entrees, no problem. The staff know how to treat guests and service was simply the best.

Would return in an instant. Don't hesitate. The lazy river with soothing spa music was my favourite spot. The juice bar is not to be missed either.

Overall this was the best resort we've stayed at in Mexico.

Resort staff (bartenders, wait staff, housekeeping) were exceptional. The bartenders knew us by name and by drink.

Front Desk Staff were likely the worst I've come across at any resort in the world. We had to haggle for a late check out - and change rooms (to a lower category no less) AND pay $50 to stay till 5PM on our departure day (even though we arived at 11PM on our arrival day). Surprising considered what I paid to be there.

Food was fantastic - best we've had in Mexico. Great choices of restaurants - just make sure you go an hour ahead of when you want to eat to get a pager - then go enjoy a drink while you wait.

Lots of chairs / floaties if we ventured away from the main pool.

Our room was ok - needed a new bed...

Overall really enjoyed the resort.

Dommage que la qualité de l`eau à la mer était innaceptable, mais pour le resort en général c`était parfait.

Lovely 5 star resort on beautiful beachfront - powder like sand and no rocks; no need for beach shoes. Food and entertainment a cut above the norm. Service friendly and accomodateing except for the Air Transat rep who was not only indifferent but rude. Note: Wifi does not work from rooms, only from the main recepton area.

For the price we paid the value was excellent. We were upgraded at no charge to the Excellence Club which was great!

We expected to be in a swim-up but they did one better by putting us in a corner room at the top with a private roof top patio with a pool and big outdoor bed to watch the stars at night....woo hoo!!

I was not as impressed as I was two years ago during my visit to the Excellence. Food was still excellent however staff were less friendly bottled water was always warm and beer was coolish at best. Last visit the serving staff around the pool were around every 30-60 minutes - this year you were lucky to see them twice a day.

Great hotel, worth the extra money, food was awesome, best i have seen, i will go back, didnt have any problems!!

Traveled with 3 other couples, we were pampered, accomadated very well. The food was good and liquor flowed constantly. Excellence lived up to its name and exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed the adults only on this vacation.

this resort really is fabulous. the staff were great and made us all feel very comfortable. the rooms are spacious and kept clean by the maids. the food was terrific in all restaurants including the buffet, and the drinks were top brand labels if you asked for them. excellent beach with white powder sand and looked like a screen saver. highly recommend this resort.

The resort is marvellous and the staff was very accomodating. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed all the activities!

We visited the Excellence Riviera Cancun over the Christmas/New Years break; the weather was warm but not hot (not the hotel's fault, of course) and this statement rather characterizes my experience. Our "Ocean-View Jr. Suite" did face the ocean, but it also overlooked the pool, bar & patio, and beach as well. The room itself was very nice but the lighting was not good in the bathroom area (typical of CFL bulbs). There are five restaurants that do not require reservations but in most cases we were required to wait over an hour to get into the restaurant we wanted. And I was not "delighted" with any of the meals. (For the record, Jose(?), the Manager of the breakfast restaurant, did ask for feed-back, but he was the only one, and that was probably our most satisfactory meal). The wait-staff were always friendly and helpful but slow, probably due to the kitchen.
The hotel staff were consistently cheerful and accommodating, the grounds and gardens were immaculate, and the buildings very grand. The entertainment (activities in the day, and bands performing at night) were very fun - better than usual IMHO. The auditorium shows were also a cut-above, but still typical resort fare (e.g. the "Michael Jackson Tribute"). Finally, we were there for the New Years Eve dinner and between the waiters serving "champagne" & hors d'oeuvres, the (short-lived) ice sculptures, and the well-dressed guests, I really felt like I was at a ritzy party. Very classy, as befitting a five-star resort. I would be happy to go back (and bring some better clothes), but not at full price.

Food and drinks were excellent. Very quiet and relaxing.
Beds were not comfortable at all and they gave us two twin beds instead of a king when we checked in and took them 2 days to switch us to a room with a king bed.

First time at this resort. Have stayed in the Riviera many times and this resort has been the best yet.
Pluses: Impecable service from all staff encountered. Good food. Nice beach sheltered by the reef, although I did miss the sound of the breakers coming in. Great drinks; many different beers available including Budweiser. Not sure why one would drink Bud when Negra Modello is available, but each to his own. Top shelf liquor available as well. Espresso Martinis at the Martini bar... awesome. A great Mexican cab-Sauvignon available at all the restaraunts. The first Mexican wine I' ve enjoyed. Endless pools.
Negatives: The carts they use to ferry just about everything up and down the hallways are really noisy. You can hear these things coming from a mile away. Just very odd they wouldn't alleviate this issue with some inexpensive modifications to the carts. Loud music until 11:00 at night whether you want it or not. Buildiing location specific I'm sure.
On the pricey side compared to similar resorts.

Overall a great place to relax and de-stress!

Beautiful resort. Food is outstanding as its all a la carte for dinner and no reservations are required. You also don't need to wear a pesky bracelet proving you belong to the hotel. The resort is 95% couples so if you are single you may want to pick a different resort.

This hotel is fantastic. They were very friendly and helpfull in every way.
We mentioned our aniversary at checkin and recieved a voucher for special dinner with a bottle of wine. They also sent a bottle of champain and fruit to the room. The food and service was great. I will go again.

I've stayed at this hotel approximately 7 timetimes. It continues to be a wonderful resort, good food, friendly service, all the little extras.

We booked Excellence for our Honeymoon the day we were leaving Punta Cana after our wedding. I have never stayed at an Excellence resort. I always book/stay at 5 star resorts when I travel only because the star rating is sometimes not what the hotel is really worth. So I figure that at best it is a 4 star. After visiting Excellence Riviera Cancun I will never visit another resort again. They truly are a 5 star resort. The rooms where beautiful and clean (they are all suites), service was incredible and the food left you speechless. All their restaurants are like eating at any high end restaurants in the city. Even at the buffet for breakfast, you just wanted to try everything because no matter what you ate or tried, it was delicious. I have travelled all over and ate in some places you couldn’t imagine but the food here left you wanting more. For example, the room service steak I had the day we first arrived was delivered to our room without a steak knife. So I thought okay, I’m tired and hungry to make a call and wait for a steak knife. Let me tell you that I used my butter knife and the meat just melted off. Being a lover of meat, I was truly shocked and delighted. We also thought of upgrading our room for an oceanview one, but after seeing our room decked out in marble all over the place, we looked at each other and said, we’ll keep the money and use it on massages at their spa. The spa is gorgeous and so relaxing that I actually fell asleep during my massage which I have never done. It was followed by champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. Very professional and super friendly staff, constantly making sure we were enjoying our stay. Since we arrived Silverio Choch the head of all bars on the resort introduced himself to us and asked us what we wanted during our stay. He sent champagne and white wine to our room on several occasions. He actually kept checking in on us even when we were on the beach, to make sure everything was ok or if we needed anything. He also asked us almost every day where, of many restaurants, we were going to eat at that night. Only, to be greeted every night at the restaurant of our choice with our table decorated in rose pedals. Our favourite place was “Basmati” the Indian restaurant; Make sure that Oscar the server there waits on you. He was our favourite but then again they were all great. Just Oscar stood out for us. This is actually the first time I ever posted or commented on any trip I have ever been on, but I can say after staying at Excellence, I was already thinking of sharing my experience with others while I was still there. We are already planning our next vacation there for the holidays. Trust me as a business and leisure traveller, you won’t be disappointed!

This is a great resort! We've been 3 times (twice in December, once in August). The staff and service are superb!! The grounds and buildings are very well maintained. The other guests are nice and down to earth for the most part. You can have fun but not a place for loud partying. Lots of activities and sports (if you want to do them) Lots of pools, lazy river, chairs. Great restaurants with no reservations, no towel cards (take as many towels as you want!) no bracelets, adults only! Would highly recommend this place. It's not the cheapest but you sure get what you paid for! Well worth the extra bucks.

This was our second time at the Excellence Riviera - super place! We will definitely return again.

First time at a adult only resort.We had a very relaxing holiday. 3rd time in the Riviera area. place was nice and clean , rooms were very nice as well. Only some small complaints, pretty much a honeymoon resort , 90% of the people were under the age of 25. all though very friendly , we were the old couple there & we are under 50 !the beach towels became a problem as people would put them on the chairs around the pool early and then grab another set of towels and spend 1/2 the day at the beach !The food was so/so at best ! we stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo last all though reservation for supper , the food was 5 times better !Over all , the Excellance Riviera was very good !

from the moment we arrived we were blown away. we were greeted with a cool towel and a glass of champagne. the resort grounds are spectacular, the room was amazing, the view amazing,the staff warm and friendly. Service was exceptional.

Excellent en tous points...Plage, piscines, chambre, bouffe dans les restaurants à la carte et particulièrement chez Isabelle tout est à la hauteur d'un 5 étoiles. Nous avons fait 4 hôtels 5 étoiles sur la Riviera Maya récemment et c'était le meilleur. WOW!

Endroit par excellence pour couples à la recherche de tranquilité et de bonne bouffe. Le site est magnifique et le personnel d'une grande disponibilité et gentillesse. Ce n'est pas l'endroit pour faire le party.
Bref c'est un havre de paix!

En général tout est bien correct. Nous sommes assez critiques pour avoir beaucoup voyager.L'hôtel est un peu vieillot pour 6 ans. Les piscines sont très chaudes et sont de type rivière. Les bars sont abondants et les serveurs efficaces.Bon service sur la plage. Les restaurants à la carte sont corrects, les serveurs très avenants. Servittes à volonté. La nourriture bonne mais pas de WOW dans les assiettes. Il faut toujours demander de l'eau à la table, sauf si le serveur nous reconnait.Le buffet du matin et midi très bon et varié. Il faut se lever tôt pour avoir de belles places avec de l'ombre. Au niveau des restaurants, c'est sans réservation, il faut y aller tôt sinon temps d'attente de 1 à 2 hres.Zone du spa vraiment super. Musique douce, jus frais, belles chaises autour. Il y a aussi une belle cour avec musique live, très agréable avant et après souper. Bonne animation mais spectacles du soir pas terribles sauf le cirque. Il a fait très beau toute la semaine.

Bien que mes attentes étaient élevées envers cet hôtel, elles ont pu être rencontrées. L'excellence Riviera Cancun est un hôtel tranquille, où il fait bon relaxer et l'on ne se sent pas envahi par une foule d'autres touristes. L'hôtel est très luxueux et les chambres (suites) très belles. Les restaurants sont vraiment très bons. Le goût de la nourriture est très "nord américanisé". Les dîners et les soupers sont dans des restaurants à la carte. Seuls les déjeuners sont des buffets. Les restaunts Chez Isabelle et le restaurant japonais ont été mes favoris. La plage est très belle et on peut y marcher très longtemps. Seul bémol: il y a beaucoup d'algues dans les deux premiers mètres d'eau au début. Mais en allant un peu plus loin dans l'eau, il n'y en a pratiquement plus. Pour la plage, des tracteurs ramassent très régulièrement les algues en avant de l'hôtel, donc il en reste peu. En avant de l'hôtel sur l'océan, il y a un gros récif de coraux où il est possible d'aller faire du tuba en prenant un bateau à partir de l'hôtel ($). Je recommande cette petite excursion (mais on doit quand même être bon nageurs). On y voit beaucoup de poissons tropicaux. Il y a suffisamment de chaises bien situées à la plage et sur le bord de la piscine sans être obligés de réserver une place (bien entendu, il y a toujours du monde pour mettre leur serviette aux petites heures du matin, mais comme il ne manque pas de places et qu'un employé ramasse les serviettes sans personne dessus, on s'en fou plus qu'aux autres hôtels). Les piscines sont sous forme de rivières autour du site de l'hôtel, ce qui disperse les gens un peu partout. Et c'est agréable d'en faire le tour sur des tapis fournis par l'hôtel. De plus, la musique qu'on entend n'est pas le "boum boum" typique des hôtels dans le sud, mais de la musique de spa. La boisson est très bonne, bien moins diluée qu'ailleurs. Il y a aussi un bar à smothies (Revive).

C'était mon deuxième voyage au Mexique (le premier au Iberostar Paraiso Lindo) et je serais très surprise qu'il existe un hôtel aussi bien que le Excellence. Je le recommande très fortement à ceux qui recherchent la détente et la tranquillité.
