Beautiful location, nice rooms, friendly staff, nice beach.

the weather was great, you had one great worker that i would like to moment on,the pool guy I always some he working keeping the pool and cleaning the tables,you had no fries this year, and if you mix breakfast ther was no where to eat until a certain time ,this is unacceptable while on vacation,also whe i went to order one pizza,3 cubains had order before me and one took 9, another took 5 and than another took 7,,the cook did not even think to give me one and tell someone to come back for another later,,the one who order nine ther was only 4 of them,,also at the front desk I ask if i could go to the lost and found room to check on a pair of runing shoes i misplaced and she said i had to wait for the cleaners to come,,i was leaving at 6 in the morning and the cleaners didnt come to 8am,unacceptable also you keep running out of, what type of resort runs out of booze every day.alos music to loud after11pm,,my tolit had no button to flase had to stick my finger in the spot and also the shower had no handle in the shower, go check room 338.

The reception desk should have a greater # ofstaff, when the buses come in. Should tell the guests, if food and snack is avaiable at the late hour of arrival. Tell us of the new rules about currency export of the few pesos (CUC) are NOT allowed. If we can take cigars out before we arrive at the hotel. Rules on guests should be posted. Local customers, who pay the CUC$25 per person get better treatment. Locals using the hotel equipment is just beyond comperhension,(disgusting).

Just ok, not bad but not great.

This was my second trip to Rancho Luna (first was in 2006).

When submitting reviews of this hotel, I think people forget that it is a 2.5 star, and not a 5 star resort. If you pay under $800 I would say that it is excellent value.

It is a little rough around the edges with a few oddities, but if you have done any traveling outside of resorts (especially if you are a backpacker type) and don't expect to be waited on you will find it more than adequate.

The type of people at the resort change every few days. French Canadians, Germans, French, and lots of Latin American families seemed to show up on weekends. There was no obvious prostitution going on, so it must vary from time to time.

The food is plentiful, quality and flavor (and sometimes lack of) vary day to day. Pizza by the pool was an excellent choice when you didn't feel like dealing with the crowds at the buffet. Lunch by the beach consists of chicken, fish, or hamburger. All very good. I brought Hot sauce and peanut butter for those days when nothing looked tempting. We were lucky, they had decent pina coladas most of the days we were there.

I would also suggest bringing a thermal mug for water/beer/drinks. Its crazy how many plastic glasses we went through in 10 days. You may want to bring a fork, knife, and spoon as well as they are often in short supply and can be irritating trying to find them at the buffet after a long day. To clarify, electricity is 220V, not 110V at the hotel. Most outlets accept both Euro and North American plugs. Iphone and camera changer plugged right in without any adapters. A free safe is provided inside the cupboard in the room. I also use a small backpacking cable lock around the handles of the double doors adding additional security to all of my belongings and the safe.

Other highlights:

- Go on your own by taxi ($10 return) and ferry ($2 return) to the Casillo de Jagua.

- Trinidad city tour ($17) is not to be missed! Overnight if you can!

- El Nicho water falls ($30) excellent day trip. Prepare for a cold swim!

- Botanical Garden. Amazing if you enjoy nature, going on a cloudy day is ideal. I suggest against going with a group if you just want to hang out. Take a cab for $25 (return) and he will wait for you. You can also get a Spanish speaking guide if you want to know more about the plants.

- Cienfuegos. ($10 each way). You must go to the city. It is very safe. I suggest going by cab and going at your pace instead of following a tour group. There is so much to do and discover. Have a Mojito at Punta Gordo, the absolute best I have had. They are true artists and take almost 2 minutes to make!

The beach is a little rough but nice with lots of trees for shade. The bottom of the ocean is a little mucky in places but the snorkeling is awesome right from the shore or paddleboats. Suggest going to the public beach 10 minute walk away for a nice sandy bottom if you so desire.

fun place. second time there, may go back next year. rooms are small but clean. lots to drink lots to eat, although food is bland.

We had a great week ! Nice weather, 25 degrees or so, sun, some clouds, some wind but always warm enough to be in shorts or a bikini. The resort was nice, the food okay (I always found something I really liked), the beach fun although the sand had a lot of rocks in it and the ocean was quite cold. We played tons of beach volleyball, with other tourists but mostly with the Cuban lifeguards, they were pretty good and we played a lot of two on two. We took the paddle boat out to the reef and went snorkeling, saw lots of tropical fish, beautiful colours, I also saw a small school of about 50 (all with a yellow stripe), Ray saw a much bigger school. We also saw a large lionfish, it looks like they have wings, beautiful but poisonous and not native and they eat too many native fish. Unfortunately the second time we went there were also tiny jellyfish and we both felt tiny pricks and then saw a few. It was a bit unnerving. It didn't really hurt, not afterwards either, but still. We went walking and jogging on the beach. We played tennis once. We did an excursion to waterfalls and pools in the mountains. Went swimming there, very cold, but so much fun and very beautiful. Jumping in, climbing through a waterfall to the next pool, swimming into a cave behind the waterfall. We also saw the Cuban national bird, the tocororo, which only lives in Cuba and is beautiful : red, blue and white (like the Cuban flag). The dogs were cute and well cared for, we loved an older one with short legs and called him Scrunch. He would follow us around and fall asleep at our feet, one time he tried to climb on my beach chair. When we left he wanted to climb in the bus ! Lots of cats as well. Also horses and they all have a white egret (they are called cattle egrets) following them as the egrets eat insects and worms disturbed by the cattle or in this case the horses. One night we played bingo and I won a bottle of rum. Other nights there were shows (dancing, magician...). Two nights we partied till very early and one of those nights we ended up swimming in the ocean at 2 am.

Our room (317) was perfect, quiet. The buffet has a lot of choice so always something you like. The pizza and fries at the pool bar are excellent. The beach bar is great for lunch, chicken or fish or hamburgers with fries, rice and a salad.

The hotel has : a diving center, free catamaran rides, paddle boats, kayaks, very large pool, tennis, minigolf (but not sure if they have putters), pool, ping pong.

There are older men with young prostitutes... we don't like it but are able to kind of accept it... unless it's an older guy with a teenage girl... that was just sickening...

Lots of excursions offered, really reasonably priced : CUC 30 for the mountain trip, CUC 17 to Trinidad, CUC 10 to Cienfuegos or the botanical garden, even a cheap trip to Havana.

Altogether, my experience was good. However, this hotel has not seen improvements since my last stay six years ago. The beach is not as clean, many weeds are present. The staff is as friendly and courteous. The shows are not as lavish as before as they do not demonstrate as much Cuban culture themes. It was more interesting before: many dancers came on stage and invited the crowd to join them on stage for dancing or Cuban theatre presentations. The pool is not as clean as it should be. Be careful not to leave your belongings on the beach without supervision as they may get stolen by Cubans (as this happened to me). Be careful also of thieves (pick-pocket) in Cienfuegos as one Cuban tried to steal from my backpocket in a crowded bar. Unfortunately, there are also some english speaking men from Ontario that use loud foul language ( like fu** you, mother fu**er etc) around the pool and the beach which makes Canadians look uneducated to international travelers and to the Cuban people. I was ashamed at times to be Canadian because of these individuals.

I like this hotel a lot. This time my room was nice -- clean, well maintained. Bed was also ok. Food was good -- I canot complain -- I am a vegetarian also. Lots of variety. Night entertainement is exceptionally good --most night anway. Staff is very friendly and helpful -- make sure you bring gifts for them. The disadvantages -- well it is a bit isolated; beach is not greatest -- muddy floor with grass -- you need to have the water shoes. But beach is fine -- it is not bad -- plus there is a public beach which is good and is walking distance. A bit far from the city -- taxis cost $10 each by -- can add up quick. You really need a scooter for the area -- They just got 30 new scooters in the town -- but still it can be hard to find run to rent. -- ANyway for the price you can't go wrong with Rancha Luna.

Small resort which we like. Bus ride was about a little over an hour. Makes a nice tour. Check in was very progfessional and efficient. The upstair rooms are small and do not have a balacony-we had a bottom floor room with view of the ocean, large room and a terrace. Very hard working house keeping.Clean rooms very well and when they were not cleaning the rooms they were scrubbing the hall ways. The pool was beautiful and Luis was busy every day cleaning it and all around it and a sweetie to talk to. Beach at resort was small and man made, but a short walk to the right takes you to a beautiful beach with bars and food and great ppl. The buffet is small so you have to go early, late seating leaves you with no silver ware or plates and alot of dishes not refilled. A down fall of the resort is the buffet as they are so unorganizedand and at supper time there seemed to be an odor of some sort that left after being open for a bit. we tended not eat at supper time. However the beach grill serves great food during the day (burgers, fish & chips) and the pool bar also has good food, pizza, fries and in the evening the main bar has good sandwhiches. The one a la carte is very good, but there again go early as they run out of food and beer. There is next to no entertainment day or evening. They had a band come in for two nights that would put you to sleep, and one different band another night which was very good; other than those there was bingo one night (not an evening thing). The disco is just the main bar in the evening and ends before midnight each night with no atmosphere. All the staff are wonderful, friendly and really try to make your stay enjoyable. The grounds are plain but kept up. They have some beautiful horses on the property and a lovely trail they take you on. Having been to Cuba 9 times this was our first to this area. There are so many great tours to take and are so cheap compared to other parts of Cuba. We did both city tours and el nicho falls--if you are lucky enough to get Cesar for your tour guide you will not be disappointed. He knows so much about the area and the country and makes the trips so enjoyable and interesting. The biggest down fall of the resort is the older men (60 & 70's) from away that they allow to rent rooms and hire the local little girls (they say 18 but look like 14)to stay with them at the resort. This is very hard to see when at 9:30pm at night in the main bar area they are giving the men lap dances etc. (pedophiles in my eyes). This resort should be an adult only and I would never take a child there for the above reason. Other than that it is on the up side of a Cuban 2* and for the price (1056.00 taxes in for 2) we would return.

This hotel: you got what you paid for. The staff were very nice, except for a few bartenders who were rude if you did not tip, they even went as far as saying to my husband you have money! the hotel is dated and the rooms could use a coat of paint and new bedding, overall for the price it was ok. The biggest disappointment was the old men from Canada who paid for young Cuban women to stay with them on the resort. These men were 60 plus years old with young women from 18 to 25 it was too in your face as a guest. This is the 19th resort that we have stayed at in 4 different countries. We will not go back to Rancho luna. Cayo Coco is where we will return better beaches and more geared to couples and familes.

I've been there before and knew what to expect as far as the food the rooms and the service. All are acceptable for the price i paid. The pool however was closed for repair and did not open as scheduled. It remained closed for my entire stay. Very disappointing. Further I was not advised of this in any way until I had purchased my ticket from sell off. The beach was also a mess. The least they could have done was clean the beach since that was the best swimming option. Sell off should have given notice prior to booking about the pool situation as this also meant the most popular bar and snack area were also out of commission for my stay.

c'est de valeur l'hôtel est bien.Mais idéal pour les vieux cochon qui aiment avoir de très jeunes filles, trop de prostitution sur la plage face hôtel, (pim vende leur femme, les petits vieux partout se promène à droite et à gauche pour se faire faire des pipes etc. et même faire l'amour(si on peut dire) devant nous sur la plage, et les life gard les laisse faire on se fait harceler à vrai dire c'est un bordel.je ne comprend pas que l'on envoie des gens à cet hôtel si il n'y a pas de changement.
Je comprend pourquoi les gens âgés y retourne très souvent.
Hôtel non recommandable pour les familles il se passe trop de choses

This is not my first trip to Cuba so I was not expecting much knowing that it had a 2.5 star rating. The rooms are fine but I was suprised that there were no hair dryers in the bathrooms so be advised to bring your own and an adapter!!! I was very disappointed to learn that the pool was closed for renovations AFTER I had booked & paid...which meant that the Pizza & pool bar were closed as well. There was very little animation in the evenings....they did nothing to alert people to come so that something could be done...if not enough people were around teh main area nothing would happen!!

If you like to dive his is a good location as the dive shop is at the hotel's beach. Basic hotel, but clean.

to many locals noisy tne food has no flavor

Good place for the price. Lots of fun, good entertainment.If your looking for great food up scale accomidation this is not your spot. If you you want to skip the boys cottage trip and get away on the cheap for some drinks and a laugh in a warm location, here you go.

Je considere qu en general, on en a pour notre argent. Je suis a un age ou on aime la tranquilite, et a part quelques jours ou des groupes de jeunes arrivaient en transition, ce n etait pas trop bruyant. Si vous avez moins de 59 ans et voulez vous amuser, oubliez
la place, Mais si comme moi vous voulez un peu de paix, c est parfait.
On offre des promenades a cheval gratuites sur le site de l hotel, mais pour quelques pesos par personnes, vous ppouvez voir le coucher du soleil sur la plage a cheval, tres beau. Il y a cependant place a l amelioration en general, mais quand meme pour le prix!!!!
808 dollars pour occupation simple

For the price this was a great find! Although the average age was likely in the 60's (I am 35), the atmosphere was friendly and peaceful. I was able to blend some local culture in the City with a relaxing stay. It was sunny and hot for 6 of the 7 days. There wasn't much to do in the way of activities on the resort but this isn't because they were not offered. Older people don't play volleyball... There is free horse back riding, mini golf, table tennis, tennis, a cool salt water pool. the resort itself was tired but certainly not in dismal condition. The food was great, and line ups short. The staff was generally in good spirits with a few outstanding ones. I would definitely go back. Make sure you take a taxi into the city, it is worth it.

Pour ceux qui aime sortire de la routine et comprendre la vie des gens chez qui ont séjourne, c'est un endroit super.Proximité des villages(si vous aller dans les villages,apporter des accessoire et vêtements pour bébé,ils apprécieront, les gens de l'hotel sont asser gater)Prener le temps de jaser avec le guide Santiago, il parle un francais impécable et est passionné de culture et histoire, il est un excellent vulgarisateur.Aller vous payer une languouste a 8 pesos,a 10 min du site, un ptit resto sur la plage publique et profiter en pour vous baigner, la mer est excellente a cet endroit.Prener une biere au village de la Coopérative, a 15 min de marche, les gens sont très souriant(PS: ne prener pas de photo des casa et des gens, ce ne sont pas des attractions et entrer voir leur maison que si ils vous y invite).En résumer, un excellent voyage et ne vous fier pas aux étoiles.

Le site s'étale sur le terrain, ce qui permet la tranquillité comme l'action ... les chambres à l'étage du bas sont préférables pour le balcon extérieur et la propreté est parfaite!
Nous avons commencé notre séjour en changeant de chambre, celles du haut n'ont pas de balcon, le lendemain matin nous avons eu celle du bas qui est parfaite avec sa petite terrasse extérieure ... le café du matin à la machine expresso est excellent, comme les cubains savent le faire ... la nourriture est moyenne comme tout le monde le sais, pour les insatisfaits, apportés vos épices et vous retrouverez votre joie ... la sable n'est pas doux, bienvenue les crocs ... mais la place public d'à coté est merveilleuse, douce et turquoise ... les activités gratuites sont appréciées, pédalo, tuba, kayak et surtout le catamaran avec les guides qui sont supers ... pour 3 cuc vous avez une balade à cheval, prêt, mettez vos pantalons ... pour aller à la ville 10 cuc en taxi et vous pourrez faire vos achats à la boutique à côté de la banque et découvrir la petite ville ... les cubains sont gentils et si vous êtes respectueux, vous obtiendrez tout ce que vous voulez, les hommes principalement, ne supportent pas bien la pression (plus de 3 commendes), prendre son temps est notre meilleur atout ... alcool, la bière et le cuba libré sont pas mal ce qu'il y a de meilleur ... et comme le snack de la plage n'est pas près de celle-ci, apportez-vous un grand contenant approprié ... Un endroit pour profiter des activités, prendre des vitamine D et se reposer! Très bon séjour!

This hotel is ok for the budget traveler that is not looking for 4 star out of a 2 star this was my second time back to rancho luna nothing has changed still slow service at the bar or buffet but that's ok ... if your looking for a place that is pleasing to the eye don't go here things need to be repaired but rooms were kept clean didn't really find much difference in the rooms here or at a 4 star only difference was at a 4 star they give you soap and shampoo all in all this is an ok resort and I will return in the future if the price is right

We had the best experience in a long time at that hotel that we could call a resort.
Room, meals, activities, service and the personnel, everything was much more than what we expected.
If I have a chance I will go back anytime and will certainly recommend to friends.

Some of the staff were good, but a majority were indifferent, to the point of ignoring guests seeking service. Front desk personnel perhaps had no teeth, for they never smiled, and ignored you, and responded eventually with slowness. Cold showers and cold food are not appreciated in January. Buffet service is fine, but one ought not to have to find one's own cutlery, lay one's own table, and clear it between courses without ever seeing a waiter or waitress. Some pretty obvious prostitution.
